Lela Sanders - 76
June 18, 2022
Jackson, AL
"Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father". . . John 14:12, ESV:Lela Bell Sanders lived her life embracing Jesus' promises in her favorite Bible verse, John 14:12. She held His words in her heart as truth, and selflessly exemplified great works in her daily actions and deeds. Affectionately known as Polly, she was born to the late J. C. and Edna Hunter on November 3, 1945, in Farmersville, AL. She confessed Christ at an early age and became a member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Farmersville, AL. She graduated from Lowndes County Training School, Hayneville, AL in 1964. Lela married the love of her life, Lorenzo Sanders, on January 6, 1968. They later moved to Jackson, AL where she was a faithful member of St Union Missionary Baptist Church and the adult choir. She was also a member of the Jackson Area Mass Choir. Polly loved "good preaching", singing and listening to gospel music. Polly had a solid and clear faith and loved the Lord with all her heart and soul. She believed in God's commandment in Matthew 22, to love her family and neighbors more than herself. It would hurt her deeply if she was aware of anyone in need. Whether it was food, shelter, clothing or prayer, she would deny herself to freely give what was needed to better someone else's situation. She considered her possessions the gifts that God blessed her to share with others. Her charity was sincere, bountiful, gracious and endless. Polly lived her life as a sterling example of love and kindness personified to her children, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighborhood and church families. She transitioned from her earthly home on June 18, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. C. and Edna Hunter of Farmersville, AL, and sister, Maggie Bell Mason of Sardis, AL.
