Laveta Schrader

Laveta Schrader

Age - 93

November 22, 2023

Laveta Mae Schrader, known lovingly as "Tootie," 93, from Columbia, MO and Moberly, MO passed away at her new home at Columbia Post Acute on November 18, 2023. Tootie was born on November 29, 1929 to Nell and Solomon Hammons in Ardmore, OK. They moved around some during the Great Depression before settling down in the Moberly area. She graduated from Moberly High School and entered the work force, though her lifelong dream was to be a wife, mother and homemaker. Two thirds of her dream came true in January of 1962 when she married Bob Schrader. Unable to have her own children, Tootie and Bob adopted Michael and the final third of her dream was complete. Tootie was a loving wife, mother and maw maw. Her and Bob were both involved in local sports leagues and loved the Moberly Greyhounds. There was never a child at her house that went hungry. The running joke to Mike was to never leave his food unattended, or Tootie would give it to a friend. Her cakes, rolls and fried suppers were a staple for the entire Fulton Avenue neighborhood. Many meals were cooked with Elvis crooning in the background. Tootie did not care if people spoke poorly about politicians, but bad words about Elvis Presley were not tolerated. You knew she loved you when she gave the side eye and pointed her finger at you. Her second family at Columbia Post Acute learned the power of the finger point and the look. Tootie is survived by her son Mike (wife Lucy) and her great niece Jennifer Romine (husband Josh). Her grandchildren, Maddy and Liam, will miss her terribly. Her sister Barb Burnett and cousin Bev Marlotti both survive in Springfield and Moberly, respectively. She is also survived by her nieces Brenda and Pam Burnett and her nephews Rodney Dennis and Jerry Burnett. Tootie also has numerous great and great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bob, her parents, her sister Bertha Dennis, her brother Sol 'Junior" Hammons and her nephew Stan Dennis, who surely asked her to make fried steak and chocolate pie the second she entered heaven. She also had a wonderful family at the Moberly Zion Lutheran Church. Tootie is also survived by her second family, the staff and residents of Columbia Post Acute, with a special mention to David, who really looked out for her. Thanks to all for being so sweet to Laveta. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Moberly Midget League. Words of comfort and support may be shared with the family at a visitation to be held Friday, November 24, 2023, 10 -11 am, at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services honoring and celebrating Tooties life will follow at 11 am. A private Committal prayer and burial will take place at a later time in the Memorial Park Cemetery.Show more
