SALEM - Lawrence L. "Larry" Leider, 95, of Salem, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023. He was born to the late Fred and Helen Lieder in DuBoise, PA on April 23, 1928. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 73 years, Martha M. Leider; children, Sue (Thomas) Capel of Salem, Timothy L. (Linda) Leider of Conway, S. C. , Mark (Cindy) Leider of Salem; grandchildren, Amy, Heather, Danielle, Abi, Matthew, Tanielle, Rylee and Bailee; and great-grandchildren, Joshua, Austin, Hannah, Jacob, Samantha, Destiny, Chole, Nathan, and Brady. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Groves; brother, William Leider; and sister Helen Field. A proud US Navy veteran, Larry retired from the Ferro Corporation in Sebring in 1991. He enjoyed spending time with his family, time outdoors, and woodworking. Larry was also a member of the First Christian Church of Salem. Private services will be held. Aurora- Kathleen A. Clark, formerly of Canfield was born September 9, 1950, in Youngstown, OH, and passed away November 25 in Cleveland, OH at the age of 73. A beloved wife of 52 years to the late Teddy L. Clark, she was also preceded in death by her parents, Francis R. and Virginia J. Quinlan, a sister, Faith Juillerat, and her brother Kenneth Quinlan. Her life was one of dedication, compassion, love, and support. She was wise beyond her years (always!). Besides her brilliance and quick wit, it was her authenticity and emotional intelligence that led every aspect of her life. She spent 30 plus years working professionally as the practice manager for the Cancer Care Hospital in Youngstown, OH while raising two sons and being the glue that held her entire extended family together. Her love, loyalty, and influence has inspired three generations of those lucky enough to have been part of her life. . . losing Kathy and her husband, Teddy, has been like losing an essential piece of our souls. Kathy was the center of her entire nuclear and extended family's universe. She will be sadly missed and forever cherished by her sons, Patrick E. (Mindy) Clark of Columbus, and Michael F. (Tabitha) Clark of Cleveland, her five grandchildren around whom she centered her life: Avery, Morgan, Bryson, Brynlee, and Brody, her sisters, Lillian Delmont of Canfield, OH and Virginia (Michael) Barnett of Cincinnati, her sister-in-law, Gail Quinlan of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Roger H. Luscombe, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, and a respected broadcaster, passed away on November 22, 2023, in Poland Township, Ohio. Born on April 23, 1939, in Warren, Ohio, to Edward and Hazel (McKibben) Luscombe, Roger was a pillar of his community and a beacon of positivity to those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Roger graduated from Warren Harding High School in 1957 and went on to attend Kent State University. From an early age, he had an infectious enthusiasm and a natural talent for connecting with people, qualities that served him well in his long and successful career in broadcasting. For 50 years, Roger worked as a radio broadcaster and program director for WSOM in Salem, where he was affectionately known as "Jolly Roger. " Notable among his many accomplishments was his coverage of the 1960 visit by JFK to Reilly Stadium, a highlight of his broadcasting career. On November 9, 1963, Roger married the love of his life, Sandra (Fredrick) Luscombe. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, love, and kindness. In their 60 years of marriage, they gave birth to their son, Mark Luscombe, who resides in Poland Township. Roger's legacy is also carried on by his grandson, Cory, who will forever remember his grandfather's enduring warmth and wisdom. Besides his parents, Roger was preceded in death by one brother, William, and two sisters, Virginia and Madilyn. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Roger was known for his love of golf. An avid golfer, he had the honor of winning the Sam Brown Dodge Golf Open, a victory he often shared with friends and family. He also enjoyed walking, a testament to his love of nature and his active lifestyle. Roger was a man of many talents, but above all, he was kind, funny, and friendly. His jovial personality made him a joy to be around, and his kind-hearted nature made him a friend to all. His humor, often showcased in his broadcasts as "Jolly Roger," brought smiles to many faces and will be fondly remembered by his listeners. June D. Henceroth, 88, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at Salem Regional Medical Center. Born on June 17, 1935, in Leetonia, Ohio, June was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Weaver) Driscoll. June was a proud graduate of Leetonia High School and later earned her master's degree from Kent State University. She dedicated her life to education, serving as a 4th grade teacher at United Elementary School for 31 years. Her passion for teaching and her commitment to her students left an indelible mark on countless lives. She was a respected member of the Franklin Square Community Church, where she was known for her faith and kindness. June is survived by her children, William (Christina) Henceroth, Dale Henceroth, and Kathy Timmons. She was a grandmother to eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Hough. June was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles William "Bill" Henceroth, four brothers, and two sisters. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her. June's calling hours will be from 11:00 a. m. -noon Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home. Marilyn "Jane" Smith, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 17, 2023, at the age of 83. Surrounded by her loving family, Jane spent her final days at Blossom Nursing Home in Salem, where she was cared for with the utmost dignity and respect. Jane was born on June 24, 1940, in Kansas, to the late John and Grace "Schmidt" Cotton. A proud Kansan, she carried the values of hard work, resilience, and family devotion throughout her life. Jane was a graduate of Hutchinson High School. Following her graduation, Jane embarked on a remarkable 35-year career at Hyde-A-Way Golf Course in Beloit, where she performed the role of office manager with unwavering dedication. Jane was a jack-of-all-trades, often going above and beyond her duties to serve snacks and maintain the friendly atmosphere that the golf course was known for. Jane was a woman of many talents and interests. She was an avid reader, often losing herself in the pages of a good book. Jane also had a creative side, spending countless hours crocheting and embroidering, needlepointing, and sewing. She took part in a bowling league, handling her role as the secretary with grace and efficiency. An excellent golfer herself, Jane's passion for the sport extended beyond her career. She was known as an amazing cook amongst her family. Jane's life was enriched by a loving family. She shared an enduring, 67-year-long marriage with her husband, George E. Smith, whom she married on November 17, 1956. Their love story was one of devotion, respect, and mutual support. Jane was also a devoted mother to her children; Sandy (Tim) Kaiser of Hilliard, Chuck (Becky) Smith of Salem, and Jeff (Lisa) Smith, of Lisbon. She found immense joy in her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren; Andrea, Laura, Matthew, Brittany, Alexis, Sarah, Tara and Brian; and great-grandchildren; Alex, Anna, Basil, Addison, Nicholas, Benjamin, Easton, Gannon, Madix, Teegan, Tatum, Aubrey, and one on the way. Jane also leaves behind two brothers, Jeff and Dennis Cotton. Jane was preceded in death by her daughter, Heather Jo Mancuso. Her family would like to welcome those who knew and loved Jane to a celebration of life, to be held on Sunday, November 26, at 1:00 pm at Hunt Club Lanes in Salem. This gathering will serve as an opportunity to remember Jane's remarkable life and the many ways she touched the lives of those around her. SALEM - Susan Carol McCracken, 78, passed away early Friday evening, November 10, 2023, at Salem Regional Medical Center. Susan was born on January 18, 1945, in Salem, the daughter of the late William and Jane (Gilbert) Schaeffer and was a lifelong area resident. She was a 1963 graduate of Salem High School. Susan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed puzzles, reading, and spending time with family. Susan was a Christian by faith. Susan leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 59 years, A. Dale McCracken, whom she married September 12, 1964; four children, Michael Dale McCracken of Alliance, Jon William McCracken of Fort Worth, TX, Andrew Scott McCracken and his wife Hope, of Belton, TX, and Melinda Sue Grimm and husband Cliff, of Alliance as well as seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Besides her parents, William and Jane Schaeffer, Susan was preceded in death by one sister, Sandra Teck. Our beloved Linda Ann Hum (Boughton) has been called home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Linda was born January 28, 1948, in Long Island, New York to Robert and Mona Boughton. She has a younger brother, James (Jim) Robert Boughton. The family returned to Salem when Linda was six weeks old and lived in the Salem and West Branch area, where she attended school and made many friends that she held dear her entire life. Linda graduated from West Branch High School in 1966. She then graduated from East Liverpool Hospital School of Nursing in 1970. Linda quickly became a mentor, a "Nurse's Nurse" and made wonderful connections with the medical community while saving countless lives as an ER and Trauma Nurse throughout her career. Linda practiced her healing gift at Case Western University, 1970 to 1971. She then worked at Salem Community Hospital, 1971 to 1980. The family briefly lived in Fort Myers, Florida where she worked at Lee Memorial Trauma Center from 1980 to 1985. She then returned to Salem with her family where she worked the remainder of her career at Salem Regional Medical Center, retiring in 2012. She completed her final night shift on her last day on Earth, officially passing at 7:45 in the morning, when she would normally be heading home to her family. Linda Boughton and William Hum were married on May 15, 1971. They had four children, Christopher James Hum, Michelle Lynn Hum, Julie Ann Smith and Jeffrey Robert Hum. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mona Boughton; a younger brother at birth; paternal grandparents, Elbert and Edith Boughton; maternal grandparents, James and Margaret Cahill; a cousin that was as a sister, Cathy Knag; and a great-grandson at birth, Grayson Wolf. Linda grew up attending Salem's First Christian Church and had many friends from the congregation. She was loved by so many wherever she went and made new friendships until the very end of her life, most recently with Linda "Jill" Bricker in Caprice Nursing Home. Despite many challenges, her Christian faith was unwavering. Linda is survived by her brother, Jim and Sharon Boughton; her husband, William Hum; her children, Chris Hum, Michelle Hum, Julie and Ryan Smith and Jeff Hum and Mary Sutter; her grandchildren, Clayton and Aimee Wolf, Megan Hum, Makayla Moore, Chance Smith, Cody Smith, Riley Hum, and Logan Hum; great-grandchildren, Weston Poppino, Theodore Wolf and Amelia Keglor; and many extended family members, former coworkers and friends whom she loved dearly. Calling Hours will be held at 10 a. m. -Noon on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at First Christian Church in Salem, Ohio. A funeral service will follow at noon at the church. The family will deeply miss her presence here on Earth but are comforted bearing witness to the testimony of her life, and the home eternal that has been prepared for her at the side of her Lord.
