Age - 79

November 22, 2023

"Graveside services for Oscar Roscoe Landers will be held Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at 1:00 PM at the Highland Cemetery, Okemah, Oklahoma. Oscar Roscoe Landers was born January 22, 1944 to Roscoe Landers and Ornest (Smith) Landers in Schoolton, Oklahoma. Oscar passed away Sunday, November 19, 2023 at his home south of Okemah at the age of 79. Oscar was a lifelong resident of Okemah and Okfuskee County. He worked many years as a tool pusher for Landers Oilfield Service until starting his own pulling unit service and saltwater service. Oscar was a pumper, cattle rancher, builder, carpenter and all-around inventor. Those who worked in the oilfield with Oscar were often amazed at his physical strength, kind heart and strong faith in God. If it was fall and getting close to deer season, Oscar could feel it in the air and always had a plan to have his freezer full. Oscar was very proud to pass his legacy of outdoor survival skills and love of hunting and fishing to his grandsons. In the past few years of life, Oscar didn't slow down even though he was confined to a wheelchair. He not only continued to hunt, but his woodworking skills continued by building cabinets, chicken nesting boxes, bird houses, coop doors and anything else anyone wanted him to build. He was no longer able to care for cattle, so he became a chicken rancher. Oscar had an impressive poultry farm, raising chickens and selling eggs. He was never too busy to stop, visit and give attention to his family, friends or an egg customer. Oscar was blessed by the friendship he developed in the past couple of years with Mike Choate and Rick Smith. Both were always ready and willing to help with his projects. After the amputation of his legs, his faith grew stronger. When in the hospital he was often asked to visit with other amputees because his outlook on life was not one of gloom, but one of happiness and determination. He was amazing! Oscar was married to Carolyn Lankford on July 29, 1963, at the Pentecostal Holiness Church of Okemah. Oscar and Carolyn have four children, Cynthia and her husband Tim Williams of Weleetka, Kimberly and her husband David Bradshaw of Weleetka, Kristy and her husband Johnny Lesley of Okemah and Joe Landers of Okmulgee. Edwin Dueck

Edwin Dueck

Age - 87

October 4, 2023

"Funeral services for Edwin L. Dueck will be held Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at 10:00 AM at the Boley Mennonite Church. Interment will follow at the Boley Mennonite Church Cemetery. Dad was born to Henry & Elizabeth Dueck on March 16, 1936 in Morris, Manitoba, as the eighth of 16 children. He went home to be with his Lord and Savior for which he had deeply yearned for, on September 29, 2023 in his home. He reached an age of 87 years, 6 months, 12 days. When Dad was 12 years of age, he experienced the life changing change of moving to Mexico together with his family and was part of the difficult beginnings as a pioneer. He accepted Jesus as his personal Savior in his youth and was baptized upon the confession of his faith on February 20, 1955. On the 19th of July 1959 he married our mother, Margaret Plett. They were privileged to share 64 years, 2 months, 10 days of joys and sorrows together. The Lord blessed them with a family of 8 children. In 1977 Dad & Mom moved to Oklahoma with their seven children. He served in various church & community offices, including road maintenance, church board, school board, song leader, and mutual aid representative. As far as work and hobbies go, Dad enjoyed carpentry, did some farming and raised parakeets. Traveling and visiting people was a highlight for him, he never met a stranger. In later years his pastime was often spent playing Tri-Ten by himself or with Mom. The family built a new house for them and they moved off the farm to the new home 3 years ago. His oldest living grandchild was born on his 52nd birthday and his youngest great grandchild was born 15 minutes before his passing. He appreciated and loved all his grandchildren, and it was extra special to receive another grandchild at his older age of almost 83 years. He has had various health issues in his life. They were married for four years when he had stomach ulcers where they took out half of his stomach. In 2016 he had a stroke where he was in the hospital for a week and needed 24/7 assistance for the first some weeks. Then on February 9, 2021 he had a heart attack, where again he was hospitalized several days and needed 24/7 help once he was home, since then his health declined even more where he was tired a lot of the time. We found out in December 2022 the dark spot under his eye had turned into a (melanoma) cancer, so we then started with treatments in February 2023. In August his health started declining even more, end of August we took him to the ER where they hospitalized him for 16 days and he was home for 9 days, and we took him back to the ER since he had a very sore mouth and throat where he could hardly swallow anything, where again he was hospitalized for one day and night. At his age the infection was hard to treat and complicated so Dad & we as family decided to bring him home with hospice care and make him as comfortable as possible. The last few days we could hardly understand what he was trying to tell us, due to his voice becoming weaker. On the morning of September 29, we saw his end was near, he departed peacefully at noon with Mom & Ben by Dad's side. Dad will be sorely missed by his family. Preceding in death was one granddaughter, one daughter-in-law, his parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Dad is survived by his wife, Margaret; children, Ben and Sara of Paden, Norma and Clara of Paden, Harold and Mildred of Pickardville, AB, Peter and Elizabeth of Fairland, Irene and Jim of Checotah, Raymond and Janice of Paden, Robert and Elda of Prague and Marlene of Paden; 34 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, C. L. , Henry, Peter and Norman and 5 sisters, Anne, Tena, Betty, Myrna and Alvina. We appreciate all the visits Mom and Dad have received. Thank you also for the prayers, meals and support we've received during the time of passing! Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah, Oklahoma. "Show more
