LaVerne Raymond Young, 86, of Litchfield, died Mon. , June 20, 2022 at 3:44 a. m. at Hillsboro Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Hillsboro. He was born Aug. 27, 1935 in Litchfield, a son of Ralph & Marie (Peger) Young. He married the former Juanita Marie Ferrari on May 1, 1954 in St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Litchfield. He worked for Bay Circle in CA in 1959, worked construction for several years for SJ Groves, Denton Construction & Freesland Construction as a member of Local Labor Union #84. In 1982 he and his wife established Young's Roofing and this year celebrated 40 years of business. He was a member of the Moose Lodge #1634, was a licensed farrier with a rodeo background, loved horses and driving his teams. He enjoyed pulling Sacagawea gold dollars out of the ears of children and was known for wearing bib overalls. Mr. Young is survived by:2 sons,Joseph A (Amber) Young of Irving,Lamarr R Young of Litchfield, 2 daughters,Paula K (Tom) MelchertBecky S (Todd) Bergman, both of Litchfield, 1 brother,James Young of Litchfield. 11 grandchildren,Patrick (Tina) Young, Shawnee (Isaiah) Tandy,Cheyenne (Levi) Rogers, Shane Green,Joshua Young, Jordan Young,Tommy (Danielle) Melchert, Jonathan (Rheanne) Melchert,Levi (Renee) Melchert, Nic Bergman, & Emi (Brandon) Vaske, 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, 4 brothers, Carl Young, Harold Young, LaMarr Young and Ralph Young, 4 sisters, Frieda Nail, Clara Urban Mary Bukowatz & Eileen Young, and infant great-grandson, Desmond Demetrius Tandy. Funeral services will be held Sun. , June 26, 2022 at 4:00 p. m. , at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Visitation will be held Sunday from noon until the time of service. Fr. Dan Willenborg will officiate. Burial will be at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield. The family suggests memorials to the Equestrian Campground at Lake Yaeger, with checks made payable to the City of Litchfield, memo: Equestrian Campground or to Juanita's Walking Trail, with checks made payable to the Litchfield Park District, memo: Juanita's Walking Trail.
