LaVada Bernice (Jones) Marlett, age 88, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, February 14, 2019 in Oklahoma City, OK. She had been a resident of the Baptist Villages since January of 2018. LaVada was born on July 22, 1930, in Fletcher, Oklahoma. She attended Broxton Schools, playing forward on the Broxton High School basketball team. LaVada graduated from Broxton High School in 1949. She went to work for Caddo Electric Cooperative in Binger, OK. While working for Caddo Electric, she met Lloyd Olen Marlett. They were married on February 10, 1951, at Camp Polk, Louisiana, where he was stationed in the US Army. She returned home to Binger, OK to wait for his return during his deployment during the Korean war. After raising their two children, LaVada attended the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha, earning a Bachelor's of Science degree in Education. Following her graduation, she began her teaching career in Anadarko Public Schools. LaVada retired in May, 1996 after teaching for 18 years. She ended her career teaching 3rd grade at East Elementary School. LaVada is preceeded in death by her parents and three siblings. She is survived by her two children, Don and wife Barbara of Yukon, OK; and Sherri Babb and husband Travis of Amarillo, Texas, one brother, Donas Jones and wife Faye of Duncan, Oklahoma, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews. Services are scheduled for Monday, February 18, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Anadarko, Oklahoma, under the direction of McNeil's Funeral Service of Mustang.
