Larry S. Johnston, 80, of Greensburg, died Friday, September 8, 2023 at home. He was born March 24, 1943 in Greensburg, a son of the late James C. and Mary E. (Somers) Johnston. He served with the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and prior to retirement worked at SCI, Greensburg. Larry had a love for building custom cars and dirt track racing at Schmucker's Speedway. His favorite car was the 69 Chevelle, he enjoyed going to car shows and was an avid hunter. He was a member of the 49ers Club in Greensburg, Hecla Sportmen's club, Norvelt Firemen's club, Kecksburg Firemen's club and Unity Township American Legion Post #982. He was past commander of the former Amvets Post #94 in United. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Larry Charles Johnston. He is survived by his wife, Christina A. (Petrella) Johnston, 2 grandsons, Owen C. and Dylan T. Johnston, daughter-in-law, Beverly A. Johnston, 2 step children, Johnny Andrews, Jr. and Julia Andrews and several cousins. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC. , 2072 Route 130, Pleasant Unity where funeral services will be held at 10 AM Wednesday with The Rev. Fred Richard "Freddie" Billman passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at UPMC East Hospital after a brief stay. Fred was born on April 20, 1943, in El Paso, Texas, a son of Fred Alvin and Carolyn (Baumgarten) Billman. He graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a BS degree in metallurgical engineering, and from Ohio State University, with a master's degree in metallurgical engineering. While at Ohio State, he met the love of his life, Carol Jean Tintera, his wife of 57 years. After graduation from Ohio State, Fred took a job with Alcoa and he and Carol moved to Rockdale, Texas where their son Mark Thomas was born. At Rockdale, Fred worked in the aluminum powder plant as a plant engineer. After a few years the family moved to Columbus, Ohio where Fred worked at Battelle Memorial Institute while he worked on a Ph. D. Fred then returned to Alcoa's Cleveland, Ohio plant. In Cleveland, a second son, Gregory James, was born. In 1974, the family moved to Hempfield Township and Fred went to work at the Alcoa Technical Center where he remained until his retirement in 1996. In 2000, Fred's love of technology led him to begin his second career at Seton Hill University as the Executive Director of Information Technology. At Seton Hill Fred was instrumental in leading the implementation of state-of-the-art technologies that enhanced teaching and learning. He also taught Introduction to Computers for undergraduates. Following his retirement from Seton Hill, Fred enjoyed reading books, playing with his grand dog, Nola, and talking to his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Carolyn Jeffries, and Sue Ann Talbot. Fred is survived by his wife, Carol J. (Tintera) Billman; his son Dr. Mark Billman and wife, Dr. Ana Billman; his son, Dr. Gregory Billman, and wife Jennifer; his favorite daughter, Michelle Catherine Billman Shurick; his beloved grandchildren, Rebecca, Theresa, Christopher, Stephen, Sydney, and Taylor Billman; and several nieces and nephews. Irvin W. "Skip" Emerick,81, of Greensburg, formerly of Carnegie, died Sunday, December 3, 2023, in RNC of Greater Pittsburgh, Greensburg. He was born October 30, 1942, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Edgar W. and Helen (Evans) Emerick. Skip was an avid sports fan and loved watching all sports. He is survived by his six sisters, Nancy Santavy, Doris Littleton, Eleanor Wolf, Barbara Emerick, Betty Sinclair, and Kathy Anderson (David); several nieces and nephews, including special great- niece, Jasmine; and his dear friend, Tammy Winner. Edith Goodman Cornelius, 98, of Pipetown, died Friday, December 1, 2023 in Greensburg Care Center, Hempfield Township. She was born December 12, 1924 in Hostetter, a daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (McMillen) Goodman. She was a member of Bethany Methodist Church, Latrobe and prior to retirement worked at Newcomer Products, Derry Township. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene B. Cornelius, a son Ronald B. Cornelius, a grandson, Brock A. Cornelius, her brother, Cloyd Goodman, her sister, Grenneth Mason and 2 nieces, Loretta Fletcher and Lib Lucas. She is survived by a son, Dennis Cornelius and wife Denise, daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Cornelius, 2 grandsons, Christopher and Brian Jackson Cornelius, 3 great grandsons, Damon, Isaac and Jake and a niece Gladys Kozusko. Lavinia Tempo, 93, of Luxor, died Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Independence Health System Westmoreland Hospital. She was born in Elizabeth Township, a daughter of the late Robert John and Alice Mae (Ludwick) Cant. Prior to retirement she had worked many years as a Registered Nurse. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Tempo; son Frank Joseph Tempo; three brothers, Robert Cant, Jr. , Samuel Cant, James Cant; sister, Kathleen Angelo; and sister- in- law; Margaret Uliano. She is survived by her three sons, John Michael Tempo (Sandy), Bruce Tempo (Kathy), and Robert Tempo; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sister Margaret Ann Cant; and several nieces and nephews.
