Deacon Larry Honzel, 85, of Geneseo went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 19, 2023 from Hillcrest Home, Geneseo. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a. m. on Saturday, August 26th at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church, Geneseo. Father Daniel Gifford will celebrate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p. m. on Friday at St. Malachy’s Church. A parish rosary will be recited at 3:30 p. m. on Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Malachy’s Catholic Church, Geneseo Food Pantry, St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital or Hillcrest Home. (White) Honzel. He graduated from University of Wisconsin, Madison. Larry served in the U. S. Army. On June 30, 1962 he married Audrian Conrady in Milwaukee, WI. Larry had worked for the USDA until retiring in 1995. But his most important work was serving as a deacon in the Catholic Church being ordained on May, 17, 1997. As a deacon Larry was active in RCIA, Cursillo, TEC and St. Malachy’s Parish. He was a member of St. Malachy’s Catholic Church, Geneseo and a former member of Geneseo Jaycees where he had served as President and many other offices. Larry had also served on St. Malachy’s School Board, Geneseo School District #228 Board and had been very active in Tennis where he had coached and mentored many family members and others. Survivors include his wife, Audrey; daughters, Laurie (Dan} Thwaites, West Linn, OR, Debbie Rowley, Geneseo, and Sue (David) Ferguson, New Berlin, WI; sons, Jim (Kelly) Honzel, and Mike (Sheri) Honzel, all of Bloomington; 12 grandchildren, Tee and Henry Thwaites, Daniel, Matthew, and Ben (Kate) Rowley, Jessica and Sam Ferguson, Emily and Nick Honzel, and Abi, Joe and Ana Honzel. He is also survived by his brother John Honzel, Rockford; and sister, Babs (Al) Debes, Walker, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, John Rowley, grandson, Nathan Honzel, and sister-in-law, Rose Rita Honzel. The family wants to thank Hillcrest Home and its staff for the loving care and support during his brief time there.

Bobby J. Britt, known to his loved ones as Bob, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2023 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, at the age of 88. He was born on July 14, 1935, in Ullin, Illinois to Earl and Maude (Jamison) Britt. Bob dedicated his life to serving and protecting others. He proudly served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, he served as a Master Sgt. for the Illinois State Police for over 30 years before joining the Bureau County Sheriffs Department. Bob's commitment to law enforcement was unwavering, and his extensive experience earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the community he served. Although Bob had a stern exterior, those who knew him well recognized that he had a heart of gold. His tough demeanor belied a gentle nature that was evident in his love for horses and trail rides. Spending time with these majestic creatures brought him immense joy and allowed him to connect with nature on a deep level. Bob graduated from Ullin High School and pursued further education at SIUC and WIU. He believed in the power of knowledge and was always eager to expand his horizons. He married Mae Dunaway on December 22, 1956 in Ullin, IL. In addition to his professional achievements, Bob had a range of hobbies and interests that showcased his adventurous spirit. Hunting, fishing, golfing, and gardening filled his leisure time with excitement and fulfillment. Bob is survived by his loving wife Mae, who stood by his side through thick and thin for many beautiful years. Together they created a bond that stood the test of time. He will be deeply missed by their children: Mike (Dee) Britt and Brenda (Brent) Heavener; grandchildren: Terry Smith, Aubrey (Corey) Wood, Logan Innis; great-grandchildren: Noah, Jaxon Lillian, Emersyn; as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Delbert "Tip" Britt, and a nephew, Steve Britt. Bob's memory will forever be treasured by his family and friends. His remarkable legacy of selflessness, dedication, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Cremation rites will be accorded. As per Bob's wishes no services will be held. Karen Kay (Provorse) Roady, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully, in the company of loved ones, at her home in Geneseo, Illinois following a long and brave battle with cancer on Sunday, November 19th, 2023. She was 79 years of age. A memorial service will be 5:00pm Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis with visitation 2 hours prior to service time. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital or University of Iowa Cancer Research. Karen was born on December 24th, 1943 in Milan, Missouri. Her parents were Roy Edgar Provorse and Beulah Mae (Duffield) Provorse. She grew up in a large family and she was the fifth of six children. As a child she lived with her family in Melbourne, Missouri where she attended grade school in Melbourne and graduated from Gilman City High School. On November 22, 1963 she married the love of her life, Arthur Lee Roady, in Colona, Illinois. They had two daughters that she was very proud of. Karen was employed at Buds Opticians in Colona as an optometrist for eighteen years up until she retired in 1991. She wanted to pursue her new career path as "Full Time Grandma!" She filled her free time with hobbies that included quilting, sewing, and making ceramics. She loved cooking and spending time with friends and loved ones. Karen loved to decorate and redecorate. She filled the house with a treasure of ornamentations and collectables always seeking to improve their home. She loved watching old westerns and listening to the old county music. "Real Country Music. " Karen is survived by her husband of 60 years, Arthur Lee Roady. Two daughters, Penny Lynn Collins and her husband Jim; Brenda Lee Henry and her husband Keith. One sister, Sheryl (Provorse) Jacobs and two sister-in-law’s Doris Provorse and Carol Sue Hollis and brother-in-law Jesse Harper. She is also survived by six grandchildren. Justin Henry and wife Allysa, Kyle Henry and wife Kylie, Jeremy Henry, Lynsey Collins, Tyler Collins and Brooke Henry. Karen has three great-grandchildren as well. John L. Faramelli, 83, of Rock Island, died Friday, November 10, 2023 at Allure of Geneseo, Geneseo, Illinois. Per his wishes, cremation rites were accorded. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, is assisting the family. John was born in Rock Island, Illinois on May 4, 1940, a son of Leo and Mary Keathler Faramelli. He served his country in the Army National Guard. John spent his career as a machine repair specialist and retired from Case IH. John was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed fishing with his brother Jim, his Uncle Joe and his sons, Steve and John. His favorite places to fish were the Mississippi and other local spots, as well as Hayward, Wisconsin and Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canada. John also enjoyed country line dancing at Sweetwater. Alex enjoyed traveling to concerts and hanging out with his friend's watching bands like the Grateful Dead, Phish and Taylor Swift. He loved watching his beloved New York Yankees and Giants. He was an honorary member of the Geneseo VFW Auxiliary and member of Concordia Lutheran Church. Sandra worked briefley at Farmers National Bank in Geneseo but was mainly a homemaker taking care of her three lovely daughters, and then later worked as a cook for Growth in Geneseo as well as a proofreader for the Geneseo Republic. She loved watching and supporting Geneseo sports and especially attending all of her Grandchildren's events. She enjoyed crocheting, singing in choir at First Congregational Church, where she was a long time member. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Venita was born on July 3, 1937, the daughter of Grant and Ruth (Douglas) Wolf, in Geneseo, IL. She graduated from Geneseo High School, class of 1954. On September 12, 1954, Venita married Harold Robert Pritchard at Atkinson Congregational Church, Atkinson, IL. He preceded her in death on April 28, 2011. She was employed at Williams Grocery Store in Annawan for over 20 years and as a Pampered Chef Advanced Director. She was a member Annawan/Alba Women's Club, Chapter 410, and First Baptist Church. Venita enjoyed baking and cooking, but especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren's sporting events. Venita was very proud of Wolf Road being named after her grandfather; it was a wonderful tribute to the family legacy. Venita will be remembered for loving life and the joy she took in talking to everyone. Betty Marie (Klink) Lamb, age 91, of Geneseo, IL, passed away peacefully at Betty's Garden Memory Care in Kewanee, IL, on September 8, 2023. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Coal Valley, IL, on Saturday, September 16, 2023. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM at the church with Rev. David Anderson officiating and will be available to Livestream on the Vandemore Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Geneseo, IL. Memorials can be made to the Betty Lamb Memorial Fund to be distributed amongst her favorite charities. Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory-Geneseo Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Betty was born on December 9, 1931, in Bloomington, IL to August and Marie (Ihrcke) Klink. After graduating from Bloomington High School and working at State Farm Insurance, she met and married the love of her life, Lawrence E. Lamb on August 22, 1951. He preceded her in death on August 17, 2007. Together they raised 3 children, Debra, Gary (d. 2022), and Cathy. They spent many years in Wilmington, IL where she worked as a school secretary. After they relocated to Geneseo, she worked various jobs, and then retired from the Rock Island Arsenal. Betty was a faithful Christian and member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Coal Valley, IL. Prior to that church, she was active at the former Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Colona, IL and Grace Lutheran Church in Wilmington, IL. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomington, IL. She sometimes taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and could often be found making coffee and preparing for Bible study. She would remind you to "always put God first". She was also a member of the Lioness and Lions International organizations. She and Larry worked on many projects in and around Geneseo. One of their favorite things was helping transport eyes donated for transplant to the local airport, as well as to collect and forward used eyeglasses for the Lions. Betty is survived by: 2 daughters, Debra (Bruce) Bley of Sterling, IL and Cathy (Drew) Schillinger of Geneseo, IL; daughter-in-law, Mary Lamb of Westminster, CO; grandchildren Andrew Bley, Patrick Bley, Lisa Powers, Matthew Irvin, Breanna Irvin, Rachel Irvin, Zachary Lamb, Rebekah Benton, Cami Roy, Denae Lamb, and Emma Lamb; great grandchildren Noah and Caleb Bley, Gracelyn, Elliana, and Emmett Irvin; brother-in-law Robert Lyons of Green Valley. IL; God-daughters Jennifer Smart and Judy Marietta; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents August and Marie; husband Lawrence Lamb; son Gary Lamb; brothers Walter, William, and Wilbur Klink; and sisters Margaret Altine and Barbara Lyons.
