Red Swanson

Art “Red” Swanson was a former baseball player for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He passed away at his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on January 19th, 2024. He was 87 years old. He was born on October 15th, 1936, in Baton Rouge. Swanson inherited his love for sports from his father, A.L. “Red” Swanson, a renowned figure in Louisiana sports. Excelling in various sports, Swanson's talent in pitching led him to play for Neville High School and LSU. Swanson signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1955, starting his major league career at just 18 years old. Despite challenges, including limited playing time, Swanson showed promise, securing his first major league win in 1957 against the St. Louis Cardinals. Transitioning from player to coach, Swanson remained dedicated to baseball. Thus coaching at LSU and scouting for the Philadelphia Phillies. He continued to impact young athletes through youth clinics, leaving a lasting legacy in Louisiana sports. Survived by his wife Mary and children Laurie, Linda, and Arthur, Swanson's passion for those whose lives he touched will remember the game and commitment to mentoring fondly.

Alphonse "A.C." Camille Monin, Jr.

Alphonse “A.C.” Camille Monin, Jr. transitioned from this life on February 23, 2024 at home with his family by his side after a lengthy illness at the age of 83. A native of Mansura, Louisiana and a resident of Baton Rouge. He was a Commercial Property Underwriter for Audubon Insurance Company for many years and retired in 2000. He was a graduate of Mansura High School and Avoyelles Parish Trade School. He was a member of United Commercial Travelers for 65 years and served two terms as Senior Counselor. As a member of St. Louis King of France Church, he also served as a Eucharistic Minister for more than 20 years as well as RCIA sponsor. He and his wife Ginny volunteered at the Bishop Ott Shelter for more than 25 years and at Our Lady of the Lake Cardiac Unit as pastoral ministers. He was a founding member of the Avoyelles +2 Club and he volunteered with The Special Olympics. A.C. enjoyed cooking and socializing with family, friends and colleagues. It was said, he never met a stranger and made friends everywhere he went. He was a devoted patriarch of the family. He is preceded in death by his wife of almost 60 years, Geneva “Ginny” Brouillette Monin; parents Agnes Ducote Monin and Alphonse Camille Monin, Sr.; his sisters, Myrtis Rabalais and June Novo. He is survived by his daughters Donna A. Monin and Rachael Monin Romine (Mark), as well as his grandson Joshua Romine (Hollyn) and great grandchildren Benjamin Romine and Charlotte Romine, all of Baton Rouge. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Grateful thanks to the staff of Hospice of Baton Rouge for their care and support of A.C. and his family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at Our Lady of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point for Cole J. Stanford, 10, who passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 10:25 P.M. at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge. Fr. Brian Harrington, Pastor of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point will be officiating for the services. Burial will be held in St. Edward Catholic Church Cemetery in Richard. The family has requested the visitation to be held on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 10:00 A.M until Saturday at 12:30 P.M. in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Church Point. Perè Rozas will recite the Rosary on Friday at 6 o’clock in the evening in the Funeral Home Chapel. Survivors include his parents, Jonathon and Amy Richard Stanford of Church Point; five sisters, Blake, Blair, Lainey, Lola, and Minnie Stanford all of Church Point; three brothers, Isaac, Brock, and Jacques Stanford all of Church Point; one niece, Charlie Braman of Church Point; his paternal grandmother, Barbara Stanford of Church Point; his maternal grandparents, Lonnie and Elaine Richard of Richard. Cole was a 5th grade student at OMP and a proud altar server at the school Masses. He loved spending all of his free time in the seat of a tractor, or on a 4 wheeler. Cole was employed by his family businesses, and he was a hard worker. Cole was preceded in death by his brother, Tyler Jude Stanford; paternal grandfather, John Stanford. Dr. James Earl Parker

"With a mixture of joy and sadness we announce the passing of Dr. James Earl Parker on February 26, 2024 at Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. James, born on April 8, 1943, spent 80 years on this earth before going home to be with his Lord and Savior. Dr. Parker earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Mississippi College in 1965 and went on to achieve a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Seminary in 1969. In 1979, he earned a Doctor of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Seminary. His love of learning never stopped. Always driven to understand more so that he could teach more effectively. Throughout his life, Dr. Parker pastored churches in Texas, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Most recently, from 2009 to 2018, he served as the pastor of Riverbend Baptist in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Over the years, he shared the joys and tears of those he served. He loved, and was loved, by many. Bro. Parker was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Anne Haggard Parker in June of 1990. He is survived by his loving family, including his two sons: Kevin and wife Denise; and Darrell and wife Robin; and four grandchildren: Andrew, Jacob, Anna, and Paul. James is also survived by his friend of many years, Mike Seamans, whose companionship was a constant source of stability and peace in his life. And last but not least, his dog Bingo who always made him smile and laugh. Bro. Parker loved to sing southern gospel music with his brothers, creating harmonies that resonated with the love, faith, and hope that defined his life. He will be remembered for his spirit of generosity and willingness to give his time and attention to help others. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you make a donation to your church or favorite charity. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 29, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at Calvert Funeral Home in West Point. Services will follow at 11:00 from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. from Perkinsville Cemetery in Louisville, where he will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife.
