"We are saddened to announce the passing of William Michael (Mike) Coffee on February 19, 2024. Mike was born on March 31, 1947 in Atlanta, Georgia. He grew up in the Atlanta area and graduated from Campbell of Smyrna High School. Mike was awarded a baseball scholarship to Georgia Tech. However, his senior year in high school he injured his elbow which ruined his arm for college. Having lost his scholarship, college was not a reality for him. He worked in the electrical field until he was drafted in 1966 into the Army. Mike started basic training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia and then onto Fort Gordon. He then went to Maryland for MIT - Military Intelligence Training after which he returned to be stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. In 1968, Mike was sent to Vietnam as part of the 101st airborne (the aeronautics division of the army). Mike interpreted satellite photos and flew an A-1E airplane most often referred to as a “bird dog”. Mike was a true patriot and received several commendations for his service. Mike was a man of faith and integrity with a strong belief in God, Country and family. He was a member of First Baptist Church Villa Rica, GA. In earlier years, as a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Palmetto, he served on the Pulpit Committee which called Rev. Michael Dalton, Sr. to be their new pastor. Mike served in many areas of the Church including the Youth Department and various other ministries. He was an intricate part of the Building Committee for Friendship’s new M. D. Collins Fellowship Hall. Friendship always held a special place in his heart. Mike was successful and had a strong work ethic. He retired as Vice President of Marketing from American Insurance Marketing Corporation in 2007. He and his wife, Donna, then founded MDC Enterprises, Inc. where he continued working until 2021. He was an avid golfer, loved to travel, and enjoyed being on the back of a horse as deep down he was a true cowboy. Mike loved his family and being a “pawpaw” was his greatest honor. He didn’t believe you had to be related by blood to be considered family. He had an infectious smile and his heart was huge; especially for those in need. He worked hard and loved hard! Mike leaves behind a legacy of duty, honor and love. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Donna Goddard Coffee; Children, Priscilla Coffee Robinson (Steve) of Roopville, GA, Clint Bowen (Caley) of Carrollton, GA; Grandchildren, Jessica Roberts, Justin Roberts, Carson \u0026amp; Coleton Bowen; Great Grandchildren, Cayden \u0026amp; Landen Pittman and Grandchildren in Heart – Jillian Sensing Butts (Cody) and Connor Sensing (Nicole); Sisters, Mary Coffee Bready (Gene) of Talking Rock, GA, Shirley Coffee Crouch (Travis) of Cherry Log, Ga and a circle of nieces, nephews and friends.
