Kurt L. Heyungs, loving husband and father 54, of Secor, died at 12:31 pm on Friday, September 8, 2023 in his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born May 13, 1969 to Sharon Schwarzlose and Jack Heyungs in Bloomington, IL. He married Cara Hittle on July 13, 2013 in Eureka, IL; she survives. Also surviving are his parents Sharon (Mike) Guhlstorf, Jack (Cindy) Heyungs; his children, Tyler Gazelle, Faughn Pierson (fiance Blayze), Lucas Heyungs,and Lexi Heyungs; 1 grandson on the way, Xander; 3 siblings, Lisa (Mark) Myers, Kelly (Jake) Covey, and Kevin Heyungs; several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews; Aunts, uncles and cousins. Kurt was preceded in death by his son Levi, Maternal and Paternal grandparents, and several aunts. Kurt was an avid fisherman and enjoyed working on projects. He was a talented handyman, always willing to help people in need. His smile was infectious and he loved to make people laugh. He was known to enjoy his treats as he had a sweet tooth. No matter the time of day Kurt had his signaturesunglasses on. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. Cremation has been accorded. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023 from 4-6 pm at the VFW in Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Kurt.

Obituary Alexandra Rose Maxheimer, 43, of Secor, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at her mother's home, surrounded by her family. A Memorial Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p. m. on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Alexandra was born on July 4, 1979, in Peoria, a daughter of Norman and Kathryn (Eldridge) Maxheimer. Her father preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her grandparents, a cousin, an uncle and her beloved dog, Holly Rose. She is survived by her lifelong partner and father of her children, Punky Fritz of Secor; children, Kirk Fritz of Goodfield, Lexie (Charlie Patterson) Fritz of Buffalo and Paisley Fritz of Secor; siblings, Eric Freres of Secor, Bernice Starry, Johnny Starry, Christine Collins, Loxey (Duke) Tuttle and Paula Collins, all of Missouri; grandchildren, Chase Patterson and Myla Rose Fritz; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Alexandra was a CNA and ran a home healthcare business. She put her whole heart into taking care of people. She loved to help others. She truly loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially her grandchildren. She also loved her dogs. Her family described her as very outgoing. She was a "firecracker" and the life of the party. She was a great listener and gave wonderful advice. She always had a smile on her face. Donald Lee Harshbarger, 60, of Secor, IL joined his loving wife with open arms in heaven at 9:59 p. m. Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, IL. Cremation rites were accorded and a memorial service will be at 1 p. m. on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at the Secor Community building and a celebration of life will follow the service at the community building. In lieu of flowers the family ask for memorials to be made to an account in his name at Heartland Bank or given to the family. Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, El Paso, IL is assisting the family with arrangements. Donny was born June 27, 1962, in Peoria IL the son of Larry B. and Carol A. Peters Harshbarger. He married Toni Lynne Porter on June 5,1982 at the Secor United Methodist Church. She died February 16, 2016. Surviving are two daughters Brandi (Mitch) Hansen of Secor and Jessica (Tony Pita) Harshbarger of Roanoke; two grandchildren Shelby Hansen and Brenden Pita and another on the way Knox Pita who he was looking forward to meeting; his mother Carol Harshbarger of Secor; his mother-in-law Ada (Tommy) Williams of El Paso; two brothers Danny (Diana) Harshbarger of East Peoria, and John Harshbarger of Secor, and one sister Theresa (Tony) Bown of Eureka. His father Larry and father-in-law Luther "Jerry" Porter preceded him in death. He was a member of the Secor United Methodist Church and a 1981 graduate of El Paso High School. Donny was an avid Nascar fan and enjoyed watching the races, camping at Hickory Hill Campgrounds for over 24 years, and fishing with Toni. Donny enjoyed playing golf and was a Cubs and Minnesota Vikings fan. He was Road Commissioner in Palestine township for many years. Donny & Toni operated Ruby Lanes Bowling Alley in El Paso for 14 years and he later worked at Diggle Ace Hardware in El Paso. He never knew a stranger and his daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren were his greatest joy. He was a loving dad, grandpa, son, and brother who enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and extended kids. Marjorie Jane Sparks, 92, of Bloomington and formerly of Secor, IL died at 11:23 p. m. Sunday, March 6, 2022, at Sugar Creek Alzheimer's Special Care Center, Normal. Funeral services will be 11 a. m. Friday, March 11, 2022, at Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, El Paso with Rev. Curt Sparks officiating. Burial will follow at Secor Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a. m. to 10:45 a. m. on Friday at the memorial home. Memorials may be made to the Home Sweet Home Mission in Bloomington. Marjorie was born August 15, 1929, in Fancy Prairie, IL the daughter of Thomas Harold and Mary Anna Vinovich Smith. She was raised by her grand parents Charles Allen and Martha Eve McGrew Smith and her aunt Corrie Smith Grant. She married Franklin L. Jones on July 10, 1949, in Athens, IL. She then married Glenn A. Sparks on October 14, 1978, in Secor, IL and he died October 30, 2015. Surviving are three daughters Glenda (Harold) Reese of Mackinaw, Suzanne (Curt) Heibenthal of El Paso, and Connie (Tom) Stauter of Bloomington; three step children Kathy (Harlan) Parker of Oletha, KS, Curt (Nedra) Sparks of Fort Worth, TX, and Barb Juers of Peoria; She has 23 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, and 18 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Dorothy Hamilton. Marjorie was a member of East White Oak Bible Church, Carlock and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a bookkeeper and partner in several small family businesses. She enjoyed being a seamstress and taking care of her family. Her family would like to thank the nurses, caregivers and all the staff at Sugar Creek for all the loving and compassionate care during Marj's four-and-a-half-year stay.Show more

Obituary Byron L. "Louie" Davenport, 72, of Secor, IL, passed away on November 19, 2020, at his home with his wife by his side. He died of cancer caused by Agent Orange from his service in Vietnam. He fought a long, hard battle. Louie was born in Streator, IL, on September 14, 1948, to Byron O. and Irene M. Imm Davenport. He graduated from Eureka High School and ICC. Louie was first married to Sarah Colburn, and they had one son, Daniel Davenport. He shared a love story many years ago with Diane, and they then rekindled their love in 1987. He proposed to her in a tree bear hunting in Canada. On May 14, 1988, he married Diane (Stringer) Albertson in Eureka, IL, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. He built the church, and theirs was the second wedding in the new church. They were married for 32 years, and she survives. Also, surviving are his son Daniel Davenport, West Yellowstone, Montana, and his daughter, Mandy (Brett) Kupferschmid of Eureka, two step-daughters, Allysia (Kevin) Rogles, St. Louis, MO, and Amanda Albertson of Jefferson City, MO, along with his grandchildren Gillian, Mitch, Hannah, Waylon, Bryce, Marissa, and Adrian. Further surviving are his brothers and sisters are Les (Connie) Davenport, Doug (Susan) Davenport, Regina (Jim) Davis, Donna (Dave) Meyers, and Gary (Susan) Davenport. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, his father-in-law, Ivis Stringer of Washburn, and sister-in-law Pam (Landy) Tangbakken of Roanoke, and Carolyn (Roger) Kenagy of Eureka. His parents and mother-in-law, Barbara Stringer, preceded him in death. He served his country in Vietnam in the 1st Cavalry 2/8 Battalion Headquarters Co. with sergeant's rank. Louie was a skilled carpenter and owned Davenport Construction in Eureka, IL. He built and remodeled homes in the area for many years, including his home in Secor. Louie took great pride in their home and spent much time perfecting it. He was grateful for his customer's loyalty throughout his career, where many customers became life-long friends. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Eureka, the Carpenters Union, American Legion Post 466 of Eureka, VFW, and Eureka Sportsmen's Club. He had countless good friends he held close to his heart. His cancer care providers became friends, story sharers, and fishing partners. He loved to bow hunt and had three deer in Pope & Young and countless other trophies. He also so enjoyed mushroom hunting, camping, and frying fish. Cooking over an open fire was a favorite. He loved to cook and was very competitive in the kitchen. Louie made numerous pieces of furniture, many from wood he had harvested. He gardened with a passion, sharing with his friends, neighbors, and nurses too. Cremation rites have been accorded, and due to the pandemic, a gathering to celebrate his life will be held next summer. Burial of his remains will be private with military honors rendered.
