Kristi Lea Colson, a kind-hearted individual who loved others more than herself, gained her wings on September 2, 2023, in Hertford, North Carolina. She was born on August 19, 1994, in Pasquotank County, North Carolina. Kristi was 29 years old at the time of her passing. Kristi was truly an angel sent to those in need, always willing to go out of her way to make others smile, even when she was feeling down herself. Her selfless nature and loving personality made her a cherished presence in the lives of all who knew her. Kristi's ability to light up a room and her social butterfly nature made her a true joy to be around. Along with her caring nature, Kristi had various interests that brought her happiness. She loved going on road trips and was particularly into astrology, being very in tune with nature and crystals. Kristi also had a creative side, enjoying painting and drawing as forms of artistic expression. Her talent extended beyond the arts, as she was also musically gifted and played the trombone in the band during her time at Perquimans County High School. Kristi is preceded in death by her father, Willie Dudson Colson, Jr. , her brother, Chad Austin Colson, and her grandparents, Nora M. Cartwright, Fannie Cartwright Colson, grandfather, Willie Dudson Colson, Sr. , and Joe James Key. She leaves behind a loving family and many friends, including her mother, Arlene "Cricket" Key Colson, and her husband, Kristi's stepfather, Clifton E. Balance; her brother, Arlen Ross Colson; her boyfriend, Nate Crawley; step-sister, Karista Balance; step-brothers, Jesse Balance and Hampton Balance; her grandfather, Dallas Clark; special family members, Morrisa L. Colson and Douglas W. Dickerson; as well as her aunts, Rose Colson and Sue Samson; and numerous other family members and friends. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p. m. on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Clay Manos officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023 from 6:00 - 8:00 p. m. at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in New Hollywood Cemetery with a private family committal. Kristi Lea Colson will forever be remembered for her kind-heartedness, selflessness, and ability to bring joy to those around her. Thomas Rowe Hoskins, a retired U. S. Coast Guard Chief Warrant Officer-4, peacefully passed away on December 5, 2023 at the age of 77. He was born on January 17, 1946 in Conneaut, Ohio to the late Elman Hoskins and Margaret Holdson Hoskins. He resided in Elizabeth City, North Carolina at the time of his death with his beloved wife, Maria Luisa Santos Hoskins. Thomas was active with the Boy Scouts and achieved the illustrious Eagle Scout rank and continued as a Troop Leader. Thomas obtained a Bachelor's degree in Geology and a Bachelor's degree in Electronics Technology from his studies at Ohio State, the University of New York and Elizabeth City State University. His thirst for knowledge served him well during his time in the Coast Guard and beyond. He had an honorable and impressive thirty-year career in the U. S. Coast Guard serving at various duty stations including the Philippines, Brooklyn, New York, Woodbridge, New Jersey, Johnston Island in the South Pacific, Maryland, and finally, Elizabeth City, North Carolina. His dedication and commitment to his work were evident throughout his service. In his leisure time, Thomas found solace in the great outdoors, particularly through kayaking and canoeing. These activities allowed him to connect with nature and embrace the beauty of the world around him. He loved rocks and was a "Rock Hound". Additionally, Thomas was an amateur astronomer. He was an active member of Riverside United Methodist Church, where he found spiritual guidance and support. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brothers, Philip Hoskins and Dale Hoskins. He leaves behind a legacy cherished by his wife, Maria, and their children, Kenneth Hoskins (Kalen) of Wake Forest, North Carolina, Susan Hoskins Trihy (Bob) of Millsboro, Delaware, and Jonathan Hoskins (Elise) of Montgomery, Texas. Thomas was a loving grandfather to Julia, Jillian, Jackson, Quinn, Max, Henry, and Grace, who brought immeasurable joy and happiness into his life. He will also be remembered by his sister, Linda Kauppila (Mark) and his sister-in-law, Jenny Hoskins, along with numerous nieces and nephews. James Robert Sanderlin, lovingly known as Bobby, peacefully passed away on December 2, 2023, at the age of eighty-four. Born on December 11, 1938, in Shawboro, NC, he was the son of the late Mack and Pearl Harrell Sanderlin. Bobby dedicated his career to serving others as a Mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service. His commitment and hard work earned him well-deserved recognition, including Acceptable Service Awards for his twenty years of service with the USPS, as well as a Certificate of Appreciation from The National Association of Letter Carriers. Throughout his life, Bobby actively participated in various organizations and held esteemed positions within them. He was a valued member of and Past Master of Hall Lodge #53, an esteemed member of the Elizabeth City Shrine Club for fifty years, served sixty years in the Eastern Star where he was a past patron of the Indian Ridge Chapter, and a member of Yorkrite. He also proudly held the title of Plank Owner on the USCG Ortuag-05-599. Bobby's contributions extended beyond his professional and organizational endeavors. He generously shared his insights and expertise as a member of the Board of Directors for Farmers Bank of Sunbury/First Citizens Bank and Albemarle Academy Board of Education. Additionally, Bobby lent his time and knowledge to the Currituck County Board of Adjustment. Bobby was a devoted and beloved husband to his wife of sixty-one years, Rebecca Burgess Sanderlin. Together, they built a beautiful life and cherished countless memories. He was a loving father to his daughters, Rene Sanderlin Graham (Wayne) and Lisa Sanderlin Mills. He is survived by his sister, Joyce Duncan (James), as well as his grandchildren: James Wayne Graham, Alicia Graham Wall (Nikki), Rebecca Graham Walsh, Whitney Mills Lawson, and Sidney Mills Mason. Bobby's legacy also lives on through his great-grandchildren: Lexi Roberson, Katelynn Wall, Nicholas Wall, Summer Wall, Michael Walsh, Raelynn Walsh, Graysen Walsh, Addie Lawson, Emma Lawson, Dorothy Mae Lawson, Frannie Lawson, Louella Lawson, Sebastian Mason, Rosie Mason, and Harvey Mason: and leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, brothers David Earl Sanderlin and Wade Sanderlin, and son-in-law Donald Mills. Suzanne Kane Eller passed away peacefully with her husband at her side on November 25, 2023. She leaves behind a large circle of beloved family and friends who will miss her terribly and cherish time spent with her and the joy she brought to their lives. Sue was an artistic talent who applied her creativity in many ways throughout her life. She was a sought-after seamstress, making countless custom wedding gowns, dresses, and (a personal favorite of hers) Halloween costumes. Other creative outlets Sue pursued included painting, pottery, marble sculpting, jewelry design, and making unique special occasion cards. Not one to keep still, Sue was also an avid gardener and enjoyed skiing, hiking, and traveling. A large source of pride and joy for Sue was her granddaughter, Trinity, with whom she spent a lot of time and watched develop into an accomplished young adult. Sue was born November 16, 1944 to Francis Kane and Marion Hopson Kane in Coatesville, PA, where she spent her childhood. She graduated from West Chester Joint Senior High School in 1962 and the York Academy of Arts School in 1965. Sue left Coatesville for Newark, DE, where she worked for Avon Products for ten years. She moved to the Glenwood Springs area with her husband in 1985 and spent many happy years living on Cattle Creek, at Elk Springs and in Marble. She spent twenty years with the U. S. Postal Service as a Clerk in Glenwood Springs and Carbondale, CO, until her retirement. Sue and her husband moved to the Outer Banks of North Carolina in 2017 to enjoy their retirement years, surrounded by beautiful beaches, boating, and local seafood. In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her brother, Stephen Kane, and her first granddaughter, Mackenzie Potter. She leaves behind her husband, Louis Eller, with whom she shared forty wonderful years, her sons, William Potter (wife Mimi) of Parrish, FL, Jeff Potter of Carbondale, CO, and grandchildren, Trinity, Madeline, Christopher, and Erica. A memorial service, followed by light refreshments, will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at 11:00 a. m. , at the Carbondale Fire Headquarters, 301 Meadowood Drive, Carbondale, CO. Patricia Cross Harris, age 64, of Elizabeth City, NC passed away peacefully on November 29, 2023. She was born on February 20, 1959 in Portsmouth, VA to the late William Edgar Cross and Blanche Elizabeth Bowen Cross, and was the beloved wife of Bruce Ed Harris. She had a huge heart and loved her grandbabies and her dogs. Patricia dedicated many years of her life to the Advantage Solutions Team in retail sales. Her hard work and commitment made a lasting impact on her colleagues and customers alike. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two sons, Jimmie Bruce Harris (Casey) and William Matthew Harris; one sister, Carol Berry; one brother, William Edgar "Buster" Cross; her three grandchildren, Kayla Decker, Liam Bonner, and Paisley Harris; her two nieces, Tammy Mizelle and Kim Ramsey; and a host of other family and friends. Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, William Edgar Cross and Blanche Elizabeth Bowen Cross, as well as her beloved daughter, Angela Harris, and sister, Edith Ramsey.
