Lawrence 'Larry' Sylvester Tesch, 87, of Hot Springs, SD, son of Reinhard and Rose Tesch of Waubay, SD, was born January 21, 1935 and passed away February 20, 2022. Lawrence grew up on a farm north of Waubay. He attended school at Bartelt District 118 through the 8th grade and attended Waubay High School graduating in 1955. After graduation he attended college for two years. He proudly served in the Army National Guard for 3 years and the U. S. Army for 2 years, spending part of his Army time in Germany. After his honorable discharge in 1960, he worked in Chicago, Illinois, later moving to Minneapolis, MN working for the U. S. Postal Service. After retiring from the U. S. Postal Service he moved to Waubay, SD, living on the West Side of Blue Dog Lake, living there until he was flooded out. In 2011, he moved to Hot Springs, SD. Larry was on dialysis for several years. He was an avid bowler participating in many bowling tournaments, traveling to different states over the years. He was still on a local bowling team in Hot Springs up until his foot amputation in 2020. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion. Larry is survived by his sister, Linda (Patrick) Lee of Sioux Falls, SD and many nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed the company of his cat, Sylvester enjoying walks with him. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Reinhard and Rose; brother, Garry; sister, Jeanette and brother-in-law, Selmer (Ted) Utne. Memorial services will be held 10:00 a. m. , Friday, February 25, 2022, at the American Legion in Hot Springs, SD. Final resting place will be at Lakewood Cemetery Veterans Circle in Waubay, SD, at a later date. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all of Larry's caregivers and friends from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs, SD.
