Leslie Vinson

Leslie Vinson

Age - 80

Having fought the good fight while keeping the faith, Raymond Vinson, finished his race on Wednesday, November 29, 2023. Raymond was born in Greene County to the late Leslie Raymond Vinson and Nell Hagan Vinson on March 5, 1943. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister earlier this month, Kaye Vinson Smith. Raymond was a quiet and sometimes intimidating man when he first met someone. Once he grew to know you, Raymond was a true friend. He was one who could be counted on and Raymond enjoyed taking care of those around him. Raymond started working with A&P Grocery Store as a young man before becoming a valued employee of Convenient Glass Service, Inc. When Raymond retired, he was serving as a glass specialist and vice president of the company. If you wanted to see Raymond relaxing and enjoying life, you would find him at the race track. He loved the outdoors and never would miss a race. While Raymond could be quiet and what some may call a bit stubborn, he was a completely different person with his grandchildren. There was nothing he wouldn't do for them and they made his day every moment he could spend with them. But all knew, as much as he loved his children and grandchildren, the one who captured his heart would be his forever love, Betsy. Raymond's enjoyment of life and his deep love for his family will be missed. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 2, 2023 from 6:30 - 8:00 p. m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Raymond's life at 8:00 p. m. in the chapel with Pastor Bill Rose officiating. Elbert Holder

Elbert Holder

Age - 71

November 28, 2023

Elbert Ray Holder, 71, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Wayne UNC Healthcare in Goldsboro. Ray enjoyed his life to the fullest and there was never a dull moment. He was one of a kind and had a determination that you could only hope for. Ray was an inspiration to say the least, overcoming his disability and limitations to achieve so much in life. Ray was not given a lot of hope at birth but God had a different plan. Doctors told his parents that he would not live past 12 and if he would live past 12 that he would be confined to his bed. Ray defied them all by graduating high school, attending college, running businesses in furniture and automotive sales, and serving at AP parts for many years. Ray taught himself to ride horses, shoot pool and even shag dance. Ray loved old cars but watching old shows like Gunsmoke, Andy Griffith and Matlock gave him a lot of joy. He also enjoyed listening to good music, especially the "Oldies but Goldies" and good beach music. Ray had faith and believed in the goodness of God. As a member of Bethel Church, Ray loved being a part of the mission work at the church and supported it in many ways. Family was most important to Ray and time spent with his son was always the best. His family finds comfort in knowing that Ray's faith carried him to his eternal home. The memories, stories, life and humor of Ray Holder will live on in his family and friends. A service to celebrate Ray's life will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at 6:00 p. m. in the sanctuary of Bethel Church with his brother, Rev. Steve Holder, officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the church. Ray is survived by his son, Anthony Holder and wife, Heather of Fremont; sister, Christine Daly of Goldsboro; brother, Steve Holder and wife, Sharon of Pikeville; nephews, Rich Holder and wife, Jessica, Blake Holder and wife, Sarah and Matthew Holder; and several great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given for missions at Bethel Church, 2308 N. William Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530.Show more
