Vera Lee Witte Hamann passed away peacefully in the hospital surrounded by family on February 23, 2024, at the age of 87. Vera was born in Williamson County on June 29, 1936 to Robert and Elizabeth Witte. Vera was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother known as MeMaw and friend to so many. She can be forever remembered for her love of faith, family, music, entertaining, crafts and floral work, dancing, and playing dominoes. She was also famous for her card playing, especially Canasta. Vera was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylor. Then later got married to the love of her life Calvin on December 12, 1954 at St. John’s Lutheran Church Richland. She served in many different capacities with the legislature, working with numerous different governors and senators. She was also a member of the Richland Community Club, pianist and organist for her church where she also served on different church committees. She was a proud farm wife and band parent and supported the local 4-H youth of her community. She also worked at the ASC office. She leaves behind her daughter, Brenda Kirchner and husband William. She was blessed with three grandchildren: Loren Kirchner and his wife Tamara, Letisha Mouser and her husband Randall, and Lynette Suarez and her husband Jason; her pride and joy great grandchildren: Tyler (T.J.) and Leianne Kirchner, Emalynn and Braelyn Mouser, and Addalyn and Colton Suarez, as well as many extended family members and countless close friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Vera was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharlyn Faye Hamann and one brother, Wilbert Witte and sister-in-law, Alice. The family would like to offer their most sincere gratitude for the care and compassion provided by all the staff and caregivers from Home Instead of Round Rock, Sage Valley Pflugerville, and Heritage Lakes Pflugerville. A funeral service will be conducted on at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at St. John Lutheran Church in Pflugerville, Texas. Interment will follow immediately at St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. William Oscar Schwall (1937–2024) William Oscar Schwall, 86, of Pflugerville, Texas, passed away on February 9, 2024. He was born on December 7, 1937, in Evanston, Illinois, the son of the late William John Schwall and Carolyn Wiedner Schwall. A Pioneer in Telecommunications William was a trailblazer in the field of telecommunications. In 1978, he became the first Deaf telephone line installer and repairer in Little Rock, Arkansas. Fearless and determined, he climbed telephone poles to repair and install analog phone lines in customers’ homes. His dedication and expertise left a lasting impact on the community. A Life Well Lived Beyond his professional achievements, William embraced life with passion. He was an active member of St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church and found solace in its community. An outstanding athlete in his early years, playing basketball was his signature: he participated in Deaf club ball for several years, mostly with teams in Chicago. William achieved Gold twice for Team USA at the World Game of the Deaf competition in Helsinki (1961) and Washington, DC (1965). He was an avid Packers fan. His love for the outdoors led him to pursue fishing, hunting, and camping. Traveling allowed him to explore new horizons and connect with people from all walks of life. Family and Legacy William leaves behind a legacy of love and family. He was devoted to his wife, Nancy (Sandra) Kellar, for 54 years. Together, they built a life filled with shared memories and unwavering support. William’s children—Kristen Hoyt (Charles) of Cedar Park, Texas; William Schwall, Jr. (Janet) of Fishers, Indiana; and Walter Schwall (Stephanie) of Kyle, Texas—carry forward his spirit of resilience and compassion. Eight cherished grandchildren will forever remember their grandfather’s kindness and adventures. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard (Dick) and Kenneth. His surviving brother, Dave Schwall (Karen) of Mukwonago, Wisconsin shares in the memories of their upbringing. Randa Nell McCollough NowotnyRanda Nell McCollough Nowotny, of Pflugerville, Texas, died February 15, 2024 at the age of 81. Randa fought leukemia for nearly a decade with great optimism and courage. She died peacefully of complications of the disease, with immediate family at her side.Randa was born on June 2, 1942, the first of four children born to JC and Norma Jim (Cornett) McCollough. She grew up in Panhandle, Texas and attended the University of Texas. While at UT she was a member of the Longhorn marching band. In Austin she met the love of her life, Doug Nowotny and they were married on January 23, 1965. During their 59 years together they hosted countless family gatherings and neighborhood nights out. They also loved time with friends in Alpine, Texas.Randa's career was with the Federal government. Her interest in birds and wildlife led her to the US Fish and Wildlife Service, from which she retired in 2005. Randa was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pflugerville. She was also an accomplished painter in both watercolors and acrylic. The beauty of her art is cherished by friends and family.Most importantly, Randa's life was defined by family and friends. On the lips of all who came to say goodbye, was the phrase that sums up her life, "everybody loves Randa." Her love and heartwarming laugh lifted the spirits of the many lives she touched. She was the heart and soul of her family: a rock in difficult times, and the life of the party in times of joy. She lived fully and loved deeply.Randa is survived by her loving husband, Doug Nowotny and her daughters Catherine Nowotny Regan and Holly Nowotny Rachui, their husbands Mike Regan and Darrin Rachui, her sister Gail McCollough, brother Parker McCollough, youngest sister Kay Milligan, and their spouses Rhonda McCollough and Terry Milligan. She was blessed with four grandchildren who gave her great joy; Sam and Stella Rachui, and Nora and Mary Regan. Her love was a blessing to eight nieces and nephews and nine great nieces and nephews.Her memorial service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pflugerville on February 20, 2024 at 11am. Friends and family attending are encouraged to wear bright colors. A reception in her honor for all friends and family will be in the church hall following the service.
