Kevin Young Obituary

Kevin James Young, age 58, of Manistique, MI, passed away April 19, 2023, at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique. Kevin was born on June 11, 1964, in Flint MI, the son of Robert Eugene and Alice Elsie (Dice) Young. He attended elementary school in Iowa, and after his family moved to Michigan, he attended school in Jackson, MI, and graduated from Parma High School. After graduation, Kevin attended Owens Technical College for specialized training. Kevin married Angela Ann Lerma in a Methodist Church in Findlay, OH on May 2, 1987, and they were married for almost 36 of their 40 years together. He studied electro-mechanical robotics and electronics in college, and then started working at Continental Cable, which became Time Warner, and is now Spectrum Communications. He worked in the field, installing as a cable tech for many years and was eventually promoted to supervisor. He spent most of his life in Ohio but came to Manistique two to three times a year and eventually moved here permanently in 2020. He was a member of Manistique Bible Church in Manistique. In Ohio, he was a member of the Eagles. Kevin collected coins and baseball cards and memorabilia and was an avid sports fan, especially of Detroit Tigers, Lions, Redwings and U of M Wolverines. He enjoyed listening to music of all kinds, and was a big fan of Leon Redbone, and Hank Williams Sr. , and liked to go to concerts when he could. He liked to go camping, fishing and hunting, loved his cat Sybal, and especially loved spending time with his wife, kids and grandkids. Kevin is survived by his wife Angela Young of Manistique, MI; son Ryan James Young (Brandy Sivrais) of Manistique, MI; daughter Mercedes Young (Andrew Sears) of Manistique, MI; brothers Mitchell A. (Carol) Young of Youngstown, OH, Michael B. (Patty) Young of Preston, IA, Mark Young (Tammie Elkins) of Findlay, OH, and Carl Young of MI; grandchildren Myra, Alice, Natalie, and Olive; and his Aunt Patsy Keys. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Alice Young, his son George Young, and his grandparents. Memorial contributions in Kevin's name may be sent to the family for future designation. A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Manistique Bible Church, with Pastor Dave officiating.
