Kevin Lee Waddell, 60, of Dexter passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023. Visitation will be held from 6-8 P. M. on Monday, August 28th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Kevin Lee Waddell (Henry) as he was known to his family and friends was born September 23, 1962 in Dexter, IA. Kevin was raised in Dexter and attended Dexfield school graduating with the class of 1981. Kevin was active in sports, while in school he loved playing baseball, basketball and football. During his life he had many professions. He worked at plumbing, heating, Thorpe, Northway Well & Pump, handyman services and many years in the Local Union OPCMIA 538. Kevin faced many challenges in life but overcame them all. His greatest joys in life were his family, eating, and riding his Harley. He loved to hunt, watch the Cubs and Chiefs play and watching his granddaughter Gema play soccer and t-ball. Kevin was from a large family and was survived by his 4 children Elizabeth, Kyle, Grace, and Lexi, brothers Wayne, Jim and wife Michelle, Jon and wife Kristy, Matthew and wife Jen, his grandchildren Braydon and Gema, mother Patsy Hall and LT and father James (Butch) Waddell and wife Sandra, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and nephew. He took his last ride on August 18, 2023. He leaves behind family and many friends who will miss him dearly. His honorary pall bearers are Tabatha Waddell, Nathan Waddell, Anna Parker, Mike Waddell, Nick Waddell, Mason Hagen, Marissa Hagen, Jason Simonsen, Garrett Peglow and Chase Knowles. Charles Christopher Nelson, 47, of Winterset, Iowa (formerly of the Stuart and Adair area), passed away October 31, 2023, at his home. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 P. M. Thursday, November 16, 2023, at the Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory - Stuart Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be held immediately following the visitation at 7:00 P. M. Thursday, at the funeral home. The burial will take place at a later date in Fontanelle Cemetery, Fontanelle Iowa. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. He was raised in the Stuart and Casey areas, graduating from Adair-Casey High School with the class of 1995. While living in Casey Chuck first met and dated the love of his life Missy. Following high school, Chuck moved to Le Mars, Iowa where he had his daughter Hailey. He lived in LeMars until making his home in Winterset. While living in Le Mars, Chuck worked for Blue Bunny where he was a forklift operator. He later took a job with Mahle Corporation working as a machine operator at both their Winterset and Atlantic locations. It was in Atlantic, where Chuck was reunited with the love of his life, Missy Plymesser. They were engaged to be married in December of 2023. Chuck was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan. Chuck also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Deb Nelson, grandmother, Myrna Nelson, grandfather, Robert Nelson, aunt, Tena Nelson, uncle, Robert "Kim" Nelson, and cousin, Hillary Nelson. Chuck leaves behind to cherish his memory, his daughter, Hailey Nelson of Le Mars, Iowa; his fiance, Missy Plymesser of Winterset, Iowa and her children, Henry Miller and Andee Miller both of Winterset and Charlee Miller of Des Moines; aunt, Alveda Nelson and wife Kim of Puyallap, Washington; uncle, Andy Nelson, of Des Moines, Iowa and a host of cousins and other family members all of whom will miss him greatly.Show more

On January 11th, 1963 at 10 o'clock! Slap! The great Joe Clausen was born at the Dexter Hospital. He lived with his family in rural Dexter. Attended Zion Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. As he got to school age, Joe went to Earlham Community Schools. While growing up he was active in multiple school and community events. In 1981, Joe graduated high school then continued his education at A. I. B. in Des Moines, Iowa. After completing A. I. B. , he decided to move to Florida where he learned the trade of plumbing. As the years passed, Joe decided to move back to Iowa, where he resided in Knoxville, where his most desirable hobby was sprint car racing and continued his trade in plumbing. Knoxville is where he lived out the rest of his days. Joe Clausen, 60, passed away peacefully at his home on October 1, 2023 surrounded by his family and friends. Visitation will be held at Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart, Iowa on October 20th from 6-8 P. M. Graveside funeral service will be Saturday, October 21st at the Robert's Cemetery beginning at 10 A. M. Joe is survived by his mother (Vivian), older sister (Cindy) and brother (Daniel and wife Sheila). Five nephews, nine nieces and fourteen great-nieces and nephews. Memorials can be directed to the family or Zion Lutheran Church and may be sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. "Cowboy" John H. Johnson, 77, of Stuart Iowa passed peacefully away on April 14th, 2023. He was at home with his wife by his side. A visitation will be held Thursday, April 20th, 2023, from 4-7 PM at Iles Westover Chapel in Des Moines, IA. A funeral service will be held Friday, April 21st, 2023, at 1 PM at Fairview Congregational Christian Church in Stuart, IA. John was born on May 10th, 1945, in Fort Meade, Maryland. He was raised in a loving home by his parents, John and Goldie Johnson along with his younger siblings Sandie and Larry. The family lived in many different states including Ohio, Pennsylvania, and settled in Arkansas where he attended school. He joined the Army on July 13th, 1962, serving in the 3rd-64th Armor Division. He always noted that this was the same division as Elvis and Audie Murphy. During his Army Career, he was stationed in Germany, and he was honorably discharged on June 29th, 1965. In 1970, he moved to Iowa, and he called this state his home. Cowboy worked as a welder on container ships in Mississippi and Alabama; he worked on jet fuel tanks in Rapid City, South Dakota; and he worked as a welder on pipelines in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Minnesota. In 1971, he started working as a siding applicator and window installer, and eventually started his own business in this field in 1990. In 2010, John move to his present and final home in Stuart, Iowa, where he married Beverly Beavers in 2014. John considered his acreage "heaven on earth", and he enjoyed many hobbies like gardening, canning, making his Grillin' & Dippin' Sauce, raising chickens, gathering firewood, and experimenting with new recipes. John loved caring for his horse, Snoop; but his best buddy in the world had to be his dog, Jake. John is survived by his daughter, Michelle Johnson; his two sons, John Jason (Lisa) Johnson and John Justin Johnson; his four stepchildren Terry (Bonnie) Pierce, Michele (Bruce) Brant, Bob (Cathy) Mills, and Jeff Mills; his grandchildren, Dallas (Neal) Johnson, Amanda (Joe) Arterberry, Eric (Lizzie) Garlock; six great-grandchildren; his sister; many nieces, nephews, and friends. John is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, his father-in-law, three brothers-in-law, and his nephew. LaVere McCleary passed away on July 23, 2022 at The Willows Assisted Living in Stuart, Iowa. Family will greet friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a. m. , Thursday, July 28, 2022 at the Penn Center Methodist Church, with the funeral service following at 11:00 a. m. LaVere was born at home, south of Penn Center, to Esther and Millard McCleary on September 29, 1924, and lived in Madison County most of his life, with the exception of one year in Fontanelle. He attended grade school at Penn #5, Penn #6 and Fontanelle. Their family then moved to Stuart where he attended grades 7-12 in public school, graduating in 1942. One of his favorite things was playing the trumpet, and he was very involved in musical activities. His appreciation of music carried into his adult years where he volunteered to drive the Earlham High School Jazz Band bus to different competitions across Iowa, and he continued to speak very fondly of those experiences throughout his life. As World War II developed, he was given a health deferment to contribute support to the military effort through farming at home - a career that would be lifelong. He also showed a talent for machinery and automotive repair, and operated a repair business. It has been said that he could fix anything. LaVere married Marcella Morford on Feb. 27, 1949, and they were blessed to reach their 65th anniversary of marriage. They were both lifelong members of the Penn Center Methodist Church. They were parents of three children: Philip (Mary Lou), Jeanie (Dave Koch) and Judy (Larry Einuis) and numerous grandchildren as well as great grandchildren. LaVere was preceded in death by Marcella. LaVere's lifelong sources of joy were his family and farming. After his retirement and move to assisted living, it brought him great pride to know the family farm would continue to be farmed by his grandson. Reading and learning held great importance throughout his life. Although he didn't attend college, many of his skills were self-taught and some surpassed what he could have learned from higher education. He was President of the Earlham Elevator Board for 8 years in the 70's and was a Sunday School Teacher and member of the administrative board at Penn Center Methodist Church. He also developed strong relationships with his neighbors and fellow church members. He was always willing to sit on the porch and visit about family, give advice on how to fix a combine, or talk about how high the corn was. He was a trusted friend to many who respected his strong character and constant presence. Many of his most admirable qualities can be seen in his three children, something that made him very proud.Show more

Phyllis Weil, 88, passed away, Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Stuart Community Care Center in Stuart, Iowa. The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 Monday, July 11, at. St. John's Catholic Church in Adel. A Rosary will be held at 7 p. m. Monday. Cremation will follow visitation and a Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, July 12th at St. John's Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Dallas Center. Phyllis was the daughter of Daniel Gardiner, Jr. and Ila Dachenbach. She was born on January 31, 1934 in Williamson, IA, and attended school there until the family moved to Waukee. Phyllis graduated with the Waukee Class of 1952. She was married to Leo Weil on January 30, 1953. Phyllis was an avid camper with her husband, and loved to fish and hunt mushrooms and wild asparagus. She was always active in sports in high school and for many years played softball with the Mrs. Adel team as a catcher. Phyllis was a collector of different items, most notably her prized collection of "Bells" from the many places she visited with her husband, which included Scotland, Spain, Yugoslavia, England, Morocco, Puerto Rico, Canada, plus many US States. She also traveled frequent with local bank sponsored trips. Besides raising a family, she worked locally in the grocery business and volunteered at the local food pantry,visited shut-in ladies, and volunteered at her church where she directed the funeral dinners for many years. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Leo, her parents, her sister, Flora Slycord and brother, Daniel Gardiner, great-granddaughter Brianna Rae Weil. She is survived by her sons, Michael (Mary) Weil and Pat (Janette) Weil, both of Adel; five grandchildren, Dana (Dave) Zabel of West Des Moines, Mike R. (Tiffany) Weil of Waukee, Jessica Weil, John (Amanda) Weil, and Martin (Adriana) Weil, all of Adel; great grandchildren, Alyxx (Ryan), David and Dallon, of West Des Moines, Piper, Hayden, Leigha, Jamison, and Emmett, all of Adel; and great-great-grandchildren, Knox, Zephyr, and Layla of Waukee. Camilla (Mrs. Gordon) Wulf, 91, formerly of Calamus, Iowa, died Tuesday morning, November 9, 2021, at Community Care Center, Stuart, Iowa. Mrs. Wulf, the formerly Camilla Opal Easton was born March 31, 1930, at home in rural Clinton County to the late Loyal and Opal (Lockwood) Easton. She was a graduate of Calamus High School. Camilla married Gordon Allen Wulf January 30, 1949, in Calamus. The couple resided at various places in Central Iowa prior to moving to the family farm to begin farming in 1976. Gordon preceded Camilla in death September 9, 1997. Camilla was an accomplished seamstress, knitter, candle maker, cosmetologist, farm wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She and Gordon had the mot wonderful gardens, fruit trees and black raspberries. Camilla loved traveling, especially trips with her sisters-in-law. Surviving are children, Kathy (Jerry) Smuck of Greenfield, Iowa, Lydia (Jerry) Ireland of Wisconsin, Allen (Cheryl) Wulf of Mauston, Wisconsin; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris Anderson of Davenport and Lucille Schurbon of Lost Nation; nieces and nephews. Also preceding Camilla in death were a son, Roger and sisters, Marge Behne, Francis Seaton. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Lost Nation Presbyterian Church from 11:00 until 11:45 a. m. Saturday, November 13, 2021. Sue Carol (Kent) Raibikis was born on June 18th, 1936 in Guthrie Center to John and Bessie (Kuster) Kent. In 1954, she graduated from Canon City High School in Colorado. She made her way back to Iowa and married Frances 'Frank' Raibikis on November 19, 1966 at All Saints Church in Stuart. The two raised their young family and worked on their farm together. Frank passed away in 1969 and left Sue to raise and care for her six children, a job that she cherished. Once her children were attending school, Sue began working at Ross Daniel as a line worker to provide for her family. She also trained to become a certified EMT, serving on the Panora Volunteer Ambulance Service for many years. She retired in 1998. During her retirement she enjoyed a number of activities including reading, planting in her garden and traveling to spend time with her family and friends out of state. Sue's faith played a major role in her life; before COVID, she could be found at the Stuart Friendship Church every Sunday morning and attended weekly Bible study with her friends. She found grace and peace in her faith and wanted to share it with others. Sue would let everyone know that her family was the most important thing in her life. Every family member that asked would be told that they were her favorite and she meant it; she loved everyone immensely. Sue never missed a family get together and was so proud to share her family's achievements. Sue Carol Raibikis died on April 1st, 2021 at Guthrie County Hospital surrounded by family at the age of 84. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; her daughter, Carol Redlinger; her brothers: Ray Snell and John Kent; her sisters: Kay Grubbs and Joan Nolan. Sue is survived by her five children: John 'Hank' (Holly) Raibikis, Victor (Susan) Raibikis, Rose (Mike) Stoy, Sandra (Jerry) Smith and Delbert 'DJ' Sheeder; brother: Sam (Paula) Mitchell; sister: Patricia (Charlie) Taylor; 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, April 7th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home - Stuart Chapel. Peggy Irene Sanders Grimm, age 60, went to be with the Lord on January 26, 2021 at Methodist Texan Hospital in San Antonio, Texas from complications of kidney disease. She was born on September 25, 1960 in Dexter, Iowa to Glenn and Verdel Sanders. Peggy graduated from Dexfield High then worked at Guide One in Des Moines for 24years. United in marriage to Darren Grimm April 22, 2003. After moving to Texas, Peggy was self-employed for 10years working along with her husband Darren. She then worked at Del Rio Home Depot 7years until her health declined. An active member of Victory Baptist Church in Del Rio for many years. Peggy loved helping with the 'Kings Kids' and many other ministries at the church. Peggy faithfully served alongside Darren's evangelical ministries around southwestern Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Verdel; siblings: Margie, Billy, Gene and Ronald. Peggy is survived by her husband Darren; siblings: Duane (Lola) Sanders; Merlin (Rosie) Sanders; Lyle (Wanda) Sanders; Joyce (John) Jensen; Betty (Lonnie) Love; Karla (Bob) Mitchell; Allen (Dottie) Sanders; Tom (Mary) Sanders; stepsons: Darren Grimm Jr; Okey (Anna) Grimm; Robert (Veronica) Grimm; Eric Head; 10 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, family and friends.
