Kevin D. Spears Irondequoit: Saturday, October 7, 2023 at the age of 56. Predeceased by his parents, John Spears and Sharon Fuchs. Kevin is survived by his wife, Karin Spears; children, Daniel, Trevor, Claire and William; sister, Deanna (Brian) Hendricks; nephew, Brodi; niece, Lianna; and many, many brothers and sisters in Christ. His family will receive friends Wednesday, October 11, 4:00 - 7:00 pm at the funeral home (570 Kings Highway So. ). Friends are invited to join the family Thursday, October 12, 9:30 am at Sacred Heart Cathedral for his funeral mass. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. John M. Swanson, age 83 of Stafford, New York died on Thursday November 23, 2023 in Rochester, New York after a lengthy illness. John was born in Lowell, Massachusetts to Buelah (Kimball) Swanson and Paul F. Swanson. He graduated from Concord High School, Stockbridge Agricultural School, The University of Massachusetts, and The University of New Hampshire with a degree in Genetics. John was employed by the Cobb Research Corporation in Littleton, Massachusetts. He traveled to over 27 countries as a poultry geneticist creating breeding programs for impoverished nations helping them with their production of food. John most enjoyed his two year residency in England with his family while continuing his research for the Cobb Corporation. After John’s retirement, he managed the development of Tall Pines in Carlisle, Massachusetts. Along with his partner and friend Bill Costello, he was instrumental in the design and creation of the Curve Street area of Carlisle. Upon moving to Sandra’s home town of Stafford, New York, he returned to his roots in agriculture and created a true homestead full of poultry and beautiful gardens abounding. He was most at home on a tractor, gator and equipment improving his property. He loved traveling with Sandra to Florida, Cape Cod and Europe. He was interested in art, literature, music and all things beautiful. John was very connected with the book Tuesdays with Morrie. He loved philosophy and had a thirst for knowledge. John was a life long learner. John supported Sandras’s advocacy related to energy production in the town of Stafford. With John’s immeasurable assistance and encouragement to maintain the authenticity of agricultural land in the town, laws were passed to protect the soil of the community and integrity of the landJohn will always be remembered for this amazing grilling on the deck, icecream sundae buffets and his creation of wonderful parties for family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Buelah and Paul Swanson, brother Paul Kimball Swanson and his sister Linnea Swanson Van Winkle. John is survived by his loving wife Sandra Fuller Swanson of Stafford, New York; his daughter Susan (James) Ferguson of Maynard, Massachusetts; his son Peter (Charlene) Swanson of Glouster, Massachusetts and two grandsons. An 11am Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday December 2, 2023 at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, Stafford, New York with a reception following the service. She attended August Morton High School. At the tender age of 15, she gave her life to the Lord and was baptized. Gladys struggled through her childhood but overcame many obstacles such as homelessness and mental health struggles. Gladys gave birth to four beautiful children: Natalie Shelhart, Guardian Michael Sykes, Stephanie Monique Sykes, and Isaac Dennis Sykes. By Internet, she was reunited with her daughter, Natalie, of Queens, NY. Gladys moved to Rochester, NY at the age of 43, under Natalie's care. She was later reunited with her son, Guardian Michael Sykes in 2021. She attended the Ark of Jesus under the leadership of Bishop David Singleton, along with many other churches. In 2020, she partnered with Reconciliation Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Pamela Brown Coleman. Gladys was very dedicated. She attended Sunday School, Morning Worship and Bible Study. Gladys loved her fellowship and the partners. She loved singing, praise dancing, going to the movies, and going out to eat. She also loved her KFC and Chinese food. She enjoyed getting her hair and nails done. One thing Gladys couldn't do without was her saltine crackers. Above all, she loved and cherished her children. Her passion everywhere she went was to tell everyone of the goodness of the Lord. Gladys would sing songs of praise at her dialysis unit and day program, which she also enjoyed. Gladys leaves to cherish her memory: her loving daughter, Natalie (Larry) Shelhart; Guardian Michael Sykes; Zakijya Muhammad), Stephanie Monique Sykes, and Issac Dennis Sykes; grandchildren, Octavia, Mikayla, Aketta Sykes and Xavier Morris; greatgranddaughter, Winter Noel Sykes; Godchildren: Shayla, Shavon, Shalami, Savannah, Tiajuanna, and Dominique; Godmother, Betty Rodgers; and a host of other relatives, church family and friends.Show more

Etta Rush Myers was born to the late Ernest Rush and late Mary Scott in Williamsburg County, SC on December 4, 1928. She was the sixth eldest of 8 children. She is predeceased by her husband Charles Myers. She met Charles and after a period of courtship they married in 1948. From their union there were 4 children. Etta was a strong mother who instilled a hard work ethic, integrity, and morals in her children. Etta had a big and loving heart. She loved talking and interacting with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was always there to give love, counseling and support whenever needed. Etta did not hold her tongue! Etta relocated to Rochester, NY in 1956. She worked at Speedy's Cleaners and Gerber Factory. She retired in 1990 from Strong Memorial Hospital after working in the linen department for 30 years. She came to know the Lord at a young age as a member of Canaan AME Church in Andrews, SC. Upon arriving in Rochester, Etta attended Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. She later found her forever church home here at New Bethel CME church in 1959, under the leadership of the late Reverend Raymond L. Graves. She was a faithful member for over 64 years. Etta loved her church and its members. During her time at New Bethel, she served on the Kitchen Committee, Pastor's Aid Committee, Stewardess Board, Willing Workers Auxiliary and as a Missionary until her passing. Etta loved attending the annual conferences and often was selected to be a church delegate. She attended annually until she was physically unable to do so. She is predeceased by her daughter Jerlene Myers and grandson Tyrone Cunningham. Those left to cherish her memory are her sister, Carrie Green (Roland) of Rochester, NY; her 3 children, Judith Myers-Gell (David) , Ernest Myers (Jacqueline) and Michael Myers also of Rochester, NY; her 6 grandchildren Eric Myers, Michael Myers, Jr. , Starr Myers, Jordann Myers, Justin Myers and Charmen Mais-Johnson (Greg); and 6 great-grandchildren, Michael Myers III, Isaiah Myers, Chardae Johnson, Casimere Johnson, Greg Johnson, Jr. , and Atreus Jackson. Our beloved Mother and Grandmother, Alma Harmer . Passed away November 26, 2023 at age 94. She is predeceased by her husband Richard and sister Beryl (Rudy) Reinprecht. Survived by children Jan (Rich) Winchell, Patti Harmer and Linda Dent; grandchildren Chad (Lauren) Winchell, Heather (Alex) Cormier, Todd (Michelle) Winchell, Alex and Steve Dent; great grandchild Ella Winchell; sisters Lura Rouse, and Duretta Schneider as well as many special friends, nieces and nephews. Alma was a graduate from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She started her career working as a Chemical Secretary for Eastman Kodak Company, where she met her husband of 60 years. Once married she was devoted to raising her family. Through-out her life, Alma was an avid bridge player, becoming a life master in the American Contract Bridge League and traveled to all 50 states to play bridge. Alma shared her love of bridge by teaching others both here in the Rochester area and and while wintering in Tucson, AZ. The last seven years was spent playing bridge with her daughter Jan as her partner. Alma's strong faith kept her involved in many aspects of the Methodist church and in doing missions work at McCurdy School, in Espanola, NM. We all cherish how her life focused on faith, family and friends. Friends may call 4-6pm Friday December 1st at Farrell-Ryan Funeral & Cremation Services, 777 Long Pond Road, concluding with a service at 6pm.
