KEVIN J. MASTERSON, M. D. , age 71, beloved husband of 43 years to Georgeanne (nee Bertovich); loving father of Mark (Christina), Matt, Molly Barz and the late Philip and Jimmy; dear Grandpa of Giulietta and Philip Masterson and William and Sebastian Barz; son of the late Mary (nee Lavelle) and Martin "Blondie" Masterson; brother of Bryan (Vickie, deceased), Martin P. , D. D. S. (Phyllis) (both deceased), Patricia Whalen (Robert) (both deceased), Barbara Moran (Jerry) (both deceased), Mary Chonko (deceased) (Douglas) and Patrick (deceased); beloved uncle, cousin and friend of many. Dr. Masterson was a longtime family medicine primary care physican on the West Side of Cleveland and was a proud graduate of St. Ignatius High School Class of 1970 and the University of Michigan where he played football and completed medical school. Passed away at home surrounded by his family on October 5, 2023. Funeral Service Thursday, October 12, at 10:30 A. M. in the CHAMBERS FUNERAL HOME of NORTH OLMSTED, 29150 LORAIN RD. AT STEARNS RD. , where friends may call WEDNESDAY 4-7 P. M. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorial contributions to your favorite charity would be appreciated. Dr. Kevin Masterson was a beloved father, esteemed medical doctor, and a pillar of the community. His departure has left a void in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Dr. Masterson's life was a testament to compassion, dedication, unwavering commitment to the well-being of others, and his faith in God. Born on April 14, 1952 in Cleveland, OH, Kevin was one of seven children of Blondie and Mary Masterson. From an early age, he exhibited an insatiable curiosity and a genuine desire to help those in need. This innate calling led him to pursue a career in medicine, where he would go on to touch countless lives and make a lasting impact on his patients and colleagues. After playing college football and completing his medical degree at the University of Michigan, Dr. Masterson embarked on a journey of healing and service. He amassed a large family medical practice serving patients throughout the west side of Cleveland. He was well known for giving generously of his time, and dedicating himself to providing exceptional care. His expertise and deep faith, combined with his empathetic nature, made him a trusted confidant and a source of comfort for his many patients as well as family and friends. While his professional achievements were remarkable, Dr. Masterson's greatest joy came from being a father to his five children: Mark, Matt, Molly, Phil (deceased), and Jimmy (deceased). He cherished every moment spent with them, instilling in them the values of kindness, perseverance, and the importance of faith in Christ. He was their guiding light, always encouraging them to pursue their dreams and reminding them of the power of love and prayer. Outside of his medical practice and family life, Dr. Mastersonwas an avid lover of his faith, in healthy living, and working out. He found solace in biking through the Metroparks, often taking long bike rides to keep himself in shape, to find peace, and to pray. His appreciation for his faith was infectious, and he inspired many to embrace the healing and serenity it offered. Dr. Kevin Masterson's legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of those he touched. His patients will remember him as a compassionate healer and a source of comfort during their darkest hours. His children will forever carry his wisdom and love, passing it on to future generations. The medical community will honor his contributions and his patients will miss the exceptional care he provided. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, let us remember the lessons he taught us: to be selfless, to always do our best, and above all, put your faith in God. After a long illness, James John Perk, age 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 5, 2023. Jim was born on July 16, 1944 in Cleveland, Ohio to George and Gertrude Perk and is survived by his loving partner Cecelia Harrison, brother William (Toni) Perk , his dearest sister Theresa Perk LoPresti and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents George and Gertrude Perk, his sister Delores (Penny) Perk Aguas and his brother George Perk. Jim was a proud Veteran of the United States Army and will be remembered for his tenacious spirit, love of family, love of skiing and family clambakes. Family and friends are welcome on Friday, December 15, 2023 from 4:00-7:00pm at Slone & Co. Funeral Directors 13115 Lorain Ave. , Cleveland, Ohio 44111. Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church 3395 E. 53rd St. , Cleveland, Ohio 44127. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. Jim grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and remained a resident of Northeast Ohio his entire life. He is a 1958 graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes Grade School, a 1962 graduate of Benedictine High School and a 1979 graduate from Fenn College of Engineering. He holds licenses in the state of Ohio as a Surveyor and Professional Engineer. Jim was very proud of his Engineering career which spanned a few decades. He started in private consulting, worked at the City of Cleveland for fifteen years in Government Engineering and then joined the Ohio Department of Transportation where he used his Engineering skills to help provide a transportation system that is safe, accessible, well maintained, and positioned for the future. . He retired from ODOT in 2015. Jim is a Vietnam Veteran having served in the United States Army at Ft. Knox, Kentucky where he learned to operate tanks. He was a longtime member of the Cleveland Grays and the American Legion Army Navy Shaker Post No. 54. Jim was a spirited individual who took on many passions which included playing chess, boating, photograpy, volleyball, skiing and later in life, he tried his hand at woodworking. Anyone who knew Jim knew he was deeply passionate about skiing. He belonged to the Fagowees Ski and Snowboard Club of Cleveland where he travelled the world skiing, most notably to the Canadian Rockies, Latin America and Austria. Jim was also a ski instructor at Boston Mills Ski Resort and a member of the Edgewater Yacht Club. Jim had a reserved and protective nature. Most of the time you had to push and pry information from him but if you knew him, you knew him. In typical Jim fashion, he fought hard and strong to the very end. He will be forever missed. Patrick W. Candow passed away peacefully on December 4, 2023, surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Rosemarie (nee Greskowiak), and their children. He was a devoted and loving father to Rose (Tom), Donald Triesel (Sarah), Patrick (Sue), Niki Canoyer (John), Joe (Sarah), and Steve (Leanne), and the cherished grandfather and great-grandfather of sixteen. Patrick is survived by his brothers Bill (Bernadine), Gary (Ivadell), Mike (Adria), and sisters Marie Cook (John) and Karen Burke. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Patrick and Virginia Marie Candow, older sister, Joanne Dugan, and brother-in-law, Rick Burke. Patrick loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family gatherings were always marked by cornhole tournaments, pick-up football games, playing catch, conversation, and laughter. He was a natural all-around athlete who enjoyed playing all sports and running. However, Patrick's lifelong sports interest was playing basketball. From the time he was young, Patrick played year-round. He would shoot around or play basketball whenever the opportunity presented itself, and it is a passion that he instilled in his children and older grandchildren, a passion now passed down to his younger grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Patrick had a gift for making kids laugh, especially babies and toddlers, who would laugh hysterically from hearing his Donald Duck impression, playing peek-a-boo, or being chased around by him. He also had a million-dollar smile that could light up a room. His whole face lit up when he smiled, and you couldn't help but smile if you were near him. Patrick lived his dream of being a truck driver. One of his favorite sayings when other drivers were confronted with difficult and narrow roadways or parking spots was, "I could fit a Mack truck through there. " The family will receive friends from 4 pm -8 pm, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2023, at Donlon Funeral Home, 15408 Triskett Rd. in Cleveland. The funeral mass is at 10:00 am. , THURSDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2023, at St. Luke Church, 1212 Bunts Rd. in Lakewood.
