Brian Christopher Benvenuti, of Rochester Hills, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at the age of 50. Brian was born the son of Remo and Sandra (Gryb) Benvenuti in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, on May 3rd, 1973. He graduated from Utica High School, class of 1991. Brian met Julie Bonscour in 1999 at Comet Burger in Royal Oak, and they had two beautiful children together. Brian spent his time caring for his girls and his father. Brian had a big heart. He is known for helping folks along the roadside and stopping shoplifters at Target. He appreciated even the smallest act of kindness toward his girls. He was a great best friend. Brian is survived by his daughters Lilly and Addi Benvenuti and their mother Julie Bonscour; his father Remo Benvenuti; and brother Kevin Benvenuti (Claire Raad); He was predeceased by his mother Sandra Benvenuti. Brian’s family will welcome at a visitation on Saturday, February 17th, 2024, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon at Pixley Funeral Home, located at 322 West University Drive in downtown Rochester, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made by envelope at Pixley Funeral Home for the care of the girls.

Mitsuko Van Hooser, of Rochester Hills, Michigan, passed away Sunday February 11, 2023 at the age of 94. Mitsuko was born the daughter of Katsuo and Teiko Yonekura, in Sao Paulo, Brazil on August 23rd, 1929. At age seven, Mitsuko moved with her family to Japan where her parents were from. Mitsuko earned her college degree in Tokyo and began teaching English to Japanese students. She was married to Kenneth Van Hooser in Japan. Mitsuko and Kenneth moved to Rochester Hills where they raised their family. Mitsuko studied to become a US Citizen. Mitsuko was an avid reader and valued education for herself and others. Her hobbies included sewing and crafts. Most of all, she loved her family. Mitsuko is survived by her children David (Trena), Kenneth (Kathleen), Cynthia, Katherine, Deborah, and Scott (Ammie); grandchildren Matthew, Ashley, Justin, Andrew, Kennedy, Rachel, Miranda, Katelyn, Penelope, Arianna, Sage, Nathaniel, Sophia, Elijah, and Josiah; great grandchildren Abigail, Samantha, Timothy, Madden, Oliver, Winston, Charlee, and Margot. Mitsuko is preceded in death by her siblings; Teru, Mariko, Ruriko, Yukio, Kunio, and Toshiko. Mitsuko will be interred at Christian Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made in Mitsuko’s honor to the Wounded Warrior Project online at www.woundedwarriorproject.org

Wally was an avid reader and enjoyed landscaping and gardening. He was good natured and fun loving. Wally was loved.

Joan Dorothy Maichen (formerly Dilts), age 91, passed peacefully on February 3, 2024. She was the loving wife of Howard Maichen, dear mother of Kathy (Ed) Kelloff, Mary Westman, Mike (Kristen) Maichen and CJ (Tim) McGowan. Joan was the cherished grandmother of Anna (Pat) Harris, Carrie (Paul) Couretas, Kevin Maichen, AJ Westman, Megan (Andrew) Powers, Mikey Maichen, Kelly Westman, Joey Maichen, Zack Kelloff, Drew McGowan, Treisy McGowan and Sara Kelloff. Great-grandmother of Addison Harris, Sydney Harris, and Paige Couretas. Sister of the late Mary (Ron) Kivell.Joan was born March 31, 1932, to Clifford and Dorothy Dilts in Neenah-Menasha, Wisconsin. Joan’s family lived in several cities in the southeastern section of Wisconsin and bordering cities in Iowa, as her father coached several high school basketball teams, eventually earning him a place in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.After graduating high school, Joan worked in the classified department of the local newspaper while also attending local community college. In 1954, at the age of 22, Joan and her friends went to a local bar called The Magnet. This is where she was drawn to her lifelong love, Howie, and they said “I Do!” 11 months later. They married on August 20, 1955, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. In 2023, Joan and Howie celebrated 68 years of marriage.Their happy and adventurous marriage led them from Wisconsin to several cities in Michigan, Seattle and Toronto while raising four children along the way. They eventually settled in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, on Kingsley Trail for 40 years. There, they enjoyed entertaining friends, hosting family reunions, lounging in the pool, gardening, and grilling. Joan’s hobbies included playing golf and bridge, traveling, decoupage and crafting miniatures for her various projects.She was passionate about holistic health and wellness and was an independent distributor of Shaklee products for 43 years. This career allowed her to spend more time caring for her children while sharing health remedies with her community and traveling to conventions around the country.She was very involved in her Catholic faith and was an avid member of St. Thomas More in Troy, Sacred Heart in Auburn Hills, and most recently at St Mary of the Hills, in Rochester Hills. In 2022, they moved to senior living at Waltonwood in Rochester Hills where Joan enjoyed making new friends, exercising, crafting, coloring, singing, and zooming with family on a weekly basis.Joan’s greatest joy was being “Nana’ to twelve awesome grandchildren. When the grandkids were young, days were spent playing tea parties, putting together puzzles, and drinking Shaklee meal shakes. As the years progressed, Nana loved attending school choirs, and sporting events and cheering on anything the Michigan State Spartans were playing. Elizabeth A. Curcio (Sims), 73, of Rochester Hills, MI, passed away February 3, 2024. Elizabeth was born in St. Louis, MO on November 6, 1950. A graduate of Trinity College and Thomas Cooley Law School, Elizabeth raised her two children, Laura Jane and Louis Anthony, with her husband of 40 years, John B. Curcio (dec. February 20, 2019). Elizabeth loved to travel the world, frequently with her dear sister and brother in law Kathleen and Joseph Trad. She was particularly fond of her several trips to Israel and, most recently, to Greece and Turkey. Elizabeth battled Rheumatoid Arthritis for years with a quiet dignity and grace. Her family is so proud of her and how hard she fought against it. Over the last couple of years, Elizabeth was proud of the work she did at her daughter and son-in-law’s audiology practice—showing up five days a week to help in the office—and of her charity work at various women’s shelters. Elizabeth is survived by her daughter Laura Jane Curcio (Jay Springer), son Louis Anthony Curcio (Gabrielle Curcio), grandchildren (Lilia Suau, Tess Curcio, Luca Curcio), sisters Kathleen Trad (Joseph Trad), Laura Duffy, Mary Ellen Wybenga, brothers Richard Sims (Kim Scharff) and Michael Sims (Kathleen Nelson) and many nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents Betty Ann and William, her brothers Thomas and William, and sister Marian. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Autoimmune Association (www.autoimmune.org). Visitation will be held on February 8, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. (eastern) at Pixley Funeral Home, in Rochester, MI. A service will be held at Pixley Funeral Home on February 9, 2024 at 11 a.m. (eastern), followed by a burial at Mount Avon Cemetery.
