Allen W. Barkkume, 72, of Monroe Twp. , passed away on Wednesday December 6, 2023 at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick. Allen was born in Irvington and raised in Newark during his teen years before moving to Carteret where he met his high school sweetheart, Colleen. He was a graduate of Carteret High School, Class of 1968 and went on to earn his Associate's Degree in business from Middlesex County College. He lived in Carteret until 2015 when he moved to Monroe Twp. He was employed as a driver for UPS for 30 years. His route was in New Providence where he received the key to the city upon retirement in 2005. Allan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Carteret where he was a deacon and very active in the church and then a member of The United Methodist Church of Cranbury. He loved sports, was an avid NY Yankees and Giants fan, and played in a softball league with his father and bowled with his father-in-law. He attended every one of his daughter's and granddaughter's softball games. Allen loved cruising in his 'Vette convertible throughout the countryside. He enjoyed retirement to the fullest, traveling around the world and going on many Caribbean cruises. Allen was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine Emolo (2021) and his parents, Dolores (Hruska) Barkkume and Allen D. Barkkume. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Colleen (Egan) Barkkume of Monroe Twp. , his son Allen M. Barkkume of Cranford, two sisters, Laura Osztrogonacz and her husband John of Iselin and Donna Gattuso and her husband Nick of Toms River, and his granddaughter Samantha Emolo of the Highlands. Visitation will be 3-6 pm on Sunday December 10, 2023 and 9:30-10:15 am on Monday December 11, 2023 at the M. Martin Patrick Slyman Mr. Marty Slyman passed away on Thursday December 7, 2023, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 87 years old. Mr. Slyman was born and raise in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from St. Michaels High School. He served in the United States Army and was discharged honorably. While serving in Monterey, he would meet his future wife, Dorothy, who was also serving in the Women's Army Corp. The couple would return to Brooklyn and marry 1959. While working full-time, Mr. Slyman continued his education taking night classes at Brooklyn College and finally earning his degree from Fairleigh Dickinson. The young couple moved to Somerset, NJ in 1967 where they would raise their own growing family. Mr. Slyman had a lengthy career with Crum & Foster where he retired at the age of fifty-seven as Assistant Vice President of Accounting. He was an active parishioner of St. Matthias Church in Somerset for many years where he served as a eucharistic minister, served on the marriage prep team, was a carnival volunteer and volunteered as a playground monitor. He was a New York Yankees and New York Giants Fan and enjoyed his morning bagel with his buddies. He was predeceased by his son Craig Slyman in 1995. He was also survived by his brothers Lawrence, James, George, Kevin, and Peter Slyman and sisters Margaret Caler and Patricia Murphy. Mr. Slyman is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Dorothy Slyman. He is also survived by their children, Michael Slyman and his wife Lynn, Keith Slyman and his wife Soyna and Colleen McAuliffe and her husband John. Mr. Slyman is also survived by his sister Rose Zimmer, his five grandchildren Tara, Jade, Gage, Colin and Jason and his three great grandchildren Bridget, Connor and Caroline. The visit will be held from 3-7 PM on Sunday December 10 at the Gleason Funeral Home. Services will begin on Monday the 11th at 9:15 AM at the funeral home followed by a 10 AM funeral mass at St. Matthias Church in Somerset. William R. McDermott, 51, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey. William lived with and is survived by his loving Mother Marilyn, Stepfather Don Kuna and his Father Richard L. McDermott in the Middlebush section of Somerset. He is also survived by one sister, Karen (Douglas) Jones, and one brother, Steven (Sunyoung) McDermott. He has two nieces and two nephews, Mason Jones, Elizabeth Jones, Charlie McDermott and Joy McDermott. He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents Merle T. Baldwin and Marian King Baldwin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His infectious laugh and beautiful smile will be missed by his direct support of 25 years, Terry Williams and for the last five years Anne Olumasayi. Surviving William are also 3 stepbrothers, a stepsister and their families: Dan (Luanne) Kuna, David (Christine) Kuna, Daryl (Marybeth) Kuna and DeAnne (Erik) Moore. William attended Somerset County Day Training Center, graduating from Franklin Township High School before receiving services from Gannet, an adult ARC center. While attending both he also had a position at Manville High School. He was an early participant in a NJ support system called Self Determination. He received services and support from Easter Seals, Delta, Home Watch Care, Neighbors and the New Jersey Division of Developmental Disabilities. He loved the Yankees and followed the Giants. He was a beloved member of the United Methodist Church at New Brunswick. Jean (Giordano) Balsamo passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. She was 92 years old. Jean was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. She moved to Toms River with her late husband, Dominick, in 1990. She has resided in Clearbrook, Monroe Twp. since 2018. She was a loving, caring, and feisty person who was loved by everyone who knew her. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and most of all cherished the time spent with her family. She was predeceased by her husband, Dominick Balsamo in 2018, her mother, Mary Correnti in 2005, and her brother, Salvatore Giordano in 2022. She is survived by her daughter, Marie Albanese and her husband Salvatore of Monroe Twp. , one grandson, Ralph Calabro and his wife Jennifer, two great grandsons, Christopher Calabro, and Nicholas Calabro, and one brother, Vincent Giordano. She is also survived by one niece, Lucille Dowd and her husband Bob, and two nephews, Anthony Giordano and his wife Tanya, and Salvatore Giordano and his wife Denise. Joseph C. D'Angiolillo, of Milltown passed away on Thursday, November 30th at St. Peter's Medical Center in New Brunswick at the age of 88. He always considered his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, as his greatest wealth providing him with great joy. Born and raised in New Brunswick, he lived in North Brunswick and South Brunswick before moving to Milltown in 2018. He was a self-employed realtor, working in Franklin Park. He was also a US Marine Corp veteran, serving during the Korean War. Joseph was a graduate of St. Peter's High School in New Brunswick, where he played football and later served on the Alumni Reunion Committee. He was a founding member and active volunteer at St. Augustine of Canterbury Church in Kendall Park where he also served as a Eucharistic Minister. Joseph was a fan and season ticket holder for Rutgers Football. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Anne K. D'Angiolillo; sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph & Indra of Franklin Park, Kevin & Susan of Asbury Park, Keith & Colleen of Rockaway, Sean & JoyceAnn of South Brunswick and Kim & Danielle of Manasquan; daughters and sons-in-law, Jodie D'Angiolillo of Milltown, Lisa & Robert Sofield of Goose Creek, South Carolina, Donna D'Angiolillo of North Brunswick and Lynette & Patrick Colligan of East Brunswick; sister, Lenita Cannon of Ft. Fritz G. Noel, 73, of Middlesex died November 28, 2023, at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick. Born June 30, 1950 in Cayes, Haiti. Fritz has resided in Middlesex for the past 11 months and Irvington for many years. Fritz G. Noel was a driving school owner and instructor who was very loved by his students for his amazing ability to teach and remain calm. He served as an elder in various Seventh-day Adventist churches; led as department chair for numerous church ministries including youth, education, health, pathfinders and family ministries; was a colporteur in the United States and Director of Youth Community Center in New Jersey. He was a beloved teacher missionary for 13 years in Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) where he planted churches, taught at the secondary school, served as school administrator and ministered to the sick (he joyously built a relationship with everyone including an unwavering commitment to praying, teaching and laughing with people with leprosy). Fritz is survived by his wife, Anne Marie, to whom he was married for 43 years; a son, Samuel Noel and his wife, Sandie Noel; a son Daniel Noel and his wife Kate Noel; a daughter Rachel Theka and her husband Elie Theka; a daughter Joelle Noel St. Fleur and her husband Guychard St. Fleur; a fils adoptif Jehoshaphat Tetteh and his wife Lucinda; and 12 grandchildren Joanna, Samuel, Abigail, Brielle, Jonathan, Nathanael, Priscille, Ryan, Zurielle, Jeremiah, Jemimah and Noah; and 7 siblings Michel Percy, Marie Ghisline Percy, Marie Geralde Alexis, Ditan Percy, Anne Baptiste, Marcelle Percey, Pastale Percy. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, mentor, educator and will be truly missed.
