Obituary of Kenneth Waddell, Sr. Kenneth Edward Waddell, Sr. passed away quietly at home on the afternoon of Saturday, February 2, 2019 surrounded by his small, loving family following several years of declining health which included Lewy Body Dementia. Ken was born in Concord, NC on December 7, 1934 to Ralph David Waddell and Lula Ritchie Waddell. Ken graduated from Concord High School in 1954. He joined the N.C. Department of Revenue in September 1957 with his first assignment in Mount Airy where he remained until transferring to Charlotte in 1962. In 1972 he was assigned as Office Manager of the Elizabeth City office and returned to Charlotte in 1974. He ended his 39 years of service as office manager of the Concord office. Ken served in the N.C. National Guard from March 1955 until August 1962 attaining the rank of Sergeant. Ken Attended Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte and graduated with an Associate Degree in Applied Science, Paralegal in 1981. After his retirement from the Revenue Department, he returned to CPCC to study computer sciences. During that time he was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Society in November 1995. Ken loved attending Panthers football games and Charlotte Knights baseball games. He watched golf, NASCAR, Tarheel Basketball and other sporting events on television. He loved to fish whenever he could. He was a loving father and active in supporting his son's participation in youth soccer and baseball at Myers Park High School and seeing him in the marching band as well. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Carolyn Krepp Waddell; son, Kenneth Edward Waddell, Jr. who has always been called Eddie; brothers, Colonel Ralph D. Waddell, Colonel Donald R. Waddell (Sue), James F. Waddell (Joyce); sister Linda Waddell Sides (Albert); sister-in-law Mary Scherle (David), Karen Werstein (Dan) and several nieces and nephews. Ken will be sorely missed by his wife and son as well as other family members. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Hankins & Whittington Chapel, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203 with a visitation to follow.
