Kenneth Edward Voigt, 78, passed away on 09/25/2023. Ken was born in Avon, SD, to Milton and Doris (Hinckley) Voigt on 07/19/1945. He joined the South Dakota National Guard in 1962 and graduated from Avon Public School in 1963. After graduating he attended basic training in Ft Ord, CA, marking the beginning of a long career in the military. Ken was married twice in his life. He was married to Doris Dummer from 1970 until 1977 and had one child, Monica. He then married Sharon Fernau in 1978 until 2008 and had a son, Dean. After graduating basic training Ken worked at Jurrens repair as a mechanic for several years before attending Southern State College, in Springfield, SD. While in college, he played football and got a degree in teaching. He taught school in Naper, NE, before transitioning to a full-time position in the South Dakota National Guard. A notable highlight of his career was his acceptance into the "Captains to Europe" program which led him to be stationed in Baumholder, Germany. After three years he returned to the United States and settled in Armour, SD. He worked as the training NCO in Platte, SD before transitioning to the role of a recruiter for the Army National Guard. He continued to serve in this position until his retirement, amassing an impressive 33 years of service. His commitment to his country and his accomplishments in the military, including achieving the rank of Captain and earning the Recruiter of the Year award, are indicative of his dedication and pride in his service to the nation. During his retirement, Ken spent his time restoring Studebakers, watching the Minnesota Twins and substitute teaching. At the time of his passing, he was residing at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home in Hot Springs, SD. Ken is survived by his daughter Monica (Jon) Rotert, Bridgewater, SD, son Dean Voigt (Amanda), Tea, SD, sister Jan Wagner, Sun City, AZ, Bev Archambeau, Sturgis, SD, Brenda Voigt, Rapid City, SD, brothers Wally Voigt and Bruce Voigt, Avon, SD, and grandchildren, Kelsie and Garrett Rotert, Kylia and Kayden Voigt. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Barb. A private family burial will take place at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota, on November 3rd. An open house to celebrate Ken's life will be held on 12/02/2023 from 11:00-1:00 at the Blue Moon in Armour, SD.

Bobby K. Hrdlicka was born June 5, 1936 to Theodore and Hazel (Schroder) Hrdlicka in Charles Mix County. He attended school through the 8th grade then worked on the family farm until going into the Navy in 1954 where he proudly served until 1958. He was united in marriage to Pauline Wojceiechowski in 1959 in Seattle, WA. Two sons were born, David and Daniel. In 1980, Bobby remarried to Carol Rolston, in Lakes Andes. Two daughters were born, April and Stacy. Throughout his life, he worked at a service station in Seattle, WA before moving to Lake Andes in 1960 where he farmed with George Rezac, worked for the City of Lakes Andes, helped Cop, and worked for the Corp. of Engineers, drove truck, worked construction and for the Game, Fish, and Parks at Pickstown. For 18 years Bobby volunteered for the Lake Andes Fire Dept. He spent his days fishing, hunting, watching westerns on TV and hanging out with his friends at the local watering holes telling tall tales. Those left to honor his memory are his children: David (Dory) Hrdlicka, April Hrdlicka, and Stacy (Brad) Irwin. Siblings: Roger Hrdlicka (special friend Barb), Richard Hrdlicka, Gloria (Kenny) Alley, and special friend, Marilyn Larson. Grandchildren: Becky (Alex) Petrik, Heather Hrdlicka; Danielle Dixson, Shawna Hrdlicka, Anthony Mathison, Alexander Mathison,12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Parkston - Arliss Theresa Schaefers, 85, went to her heavenly home Thursday, November 9 at Avera St. Benedict Hospital. Funeral mass will be Wednesday, November 15 at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 14 from 5 to 7 pm with a 7:00 pm prayer service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston. Arliss was born February 13, 1938 to Leonard and Theresa (Fuhrman) Weber in Parkston, SD. She attended Ss. Peter & Paul Parochial School in Dimock, SD through the 8th grade and graduated from Parkston High School. She was united in marriage to Dale Schaefers on January 24, 1956 in Dimock. The couple lived on the family farm near Parkston until moving into town in 1984. After moving into town, Arliss worked for Raven's and Runnings. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed quilting and made sure each of her granddaughters received a hand made quilt as well as gardening, bowling, and watching Twins baseball. Grateful for having shared her life are a daughter, Brenda Wagner of Bradenton, FL; 4 sons: Dennis (Teri) Schaefers of Phoenix, AZ; Dean (Donna) Schaefers of Parkston; Doug (June) Schaefers of Sioux Falls; and Bruce Schaefers of Tripp, SD; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Janice Heisinger of Parkston; and a brother, Jerome (Sharon) Weber of Dimock. Parkston - Adeline O. Brech, 87, went to her heavenly home Wednesday, October 25 at Avera Bormann Manor. Funeral service will be Saturday, October 28 at 10:30 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be Friday, October 27 from 5 to 7 pm with a 6:00 pm prayer service at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Memorials would be prefered in lieu of flowers. Adeline was born September 15, 1936 to William and Amelia (Dewald) Bietz on the family farm five miles east of Tripp, SD. She attended Lake Region country school through the 8th grade. For 3 years, she worked at Fergen's Produce in Parkston, SD. It was on the bus ride home from work that she met the love of her life and future husband, George Brech. The couple was united in marriage on October 12, 1958 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mitchell, SD. They lived in Mitchell for seven years before moving to Parkston where they have lived since. Through the years, Adeline worked at Modern Cleaners and Luiken's Bakery in Mitchell but her favorite job was working at the Dairy Mart in Parkston because she met so many people there. She enjoyed embroidering, gardening, ceramics, and playing various card and board games but her favorite times came when the entire family would get together. Grateful for having shared her life are her 2 children: Douglas Brech of Parkston and Janet (Mike) Muilenburg of Ethan, SD; a step-grandson, Corey (Kylie) Muilenburg of Rapid City, SD; a sister-in-law, Idella Bietz of Tripp; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Nellie was born November 15, 1938 to Edward and Hilda (Ehler) Weber. She grew up on the farm and attended Ss. Peter & Paul Parochial School in Dimock. She was united in marriage to Gerald Hohn on October 20, 1959 at Dimock. Nellie was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society. Nellie and Gerry raised their 5 children on the farm west of Dimock. In 1986, they retired and moved to Parkston. Nellie was always by her husband's side, always helping out on the farm and together they enjoyed playing cards, hunting and fishing until Gerry's death on January 17, 1993. They moved into Parkston in 1986 where Nellie enjoyed helping her sister, Pat, refinish woodworking and painted many homes. She also worked at Schilling's Cafe and the Parkston Motel where she cleaned rooms. Eventually, Nellie would leave her home and move into Heritage Square Apartments in Parkston where she enjoyed the many new friendships that she made along the way. Nellie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was always up for a gathering or road trip and never wanted to miss anything. She loved her camping trips and always enjoyed eating the freshly caught walleye. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and never missed watching a game and over the years, acquired a nice collection of Twins memorabilia. Beverly Jean (Isaacson) Melmer was born on August 23, 1929, and passed away on August 22, 2023, just a day shy of her 94th birthday. Bev was one of four siblings born to Earl and Eva Isaacson. Bev was preceded in death by her two brothers Eldon (Hap) and Dick Isaacson and her sister Dian Madison. Bev understood hardship at an early age as her family struggled with poverty and alcoholism. These struggles served as a foundation for Bev and strengthened her for the years ahead. Bev married Wesley Melmer in Dante on August 26, 1947. They lived in Lake Andes, Pierre and settled in Geddes, South Dakota in 1962. Melmer's Market was their source of income for nearly 20 years while they raised their five children: Dennis, Bob, Rick, Jan & Lisa. They lost their oldest son Dennis in a car accident in 1969 and Bev held his memory close to her until her last day. Wes Melmer passed away on November 11, 1996, less than a year before they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She remained independent with household and lawn duties and loved her daily crossword puzzle, listening to Daniel O'Donnell and a good card game with grandkids. Bev remained a contributing member of St. Ann's Alter Society until her move to Platte. Bev had a strong work ethic and was at her best when she was serving others. She cared for her aging parents and her Aunt Eileen at the end of her life. She nurtured her grandchildren that lived close to her during their younger years. She was a master in the kitchen and was famous in the Melmer household for her chicken and dumplings, pea salad and cookies. Bev was proud of her children and was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren with more on the way. Bev is survived by her children Bob (Jeanne) Melmer and children Mitch and Phil (Haley) and their mother Ann Melmer, Rick (Valerie) Melmer and their children Tara (Ross) Rollinger, Megan (Jerry) Smith and Sean (Kristi) Melmer, Jan (Scott) Dimick and Lisa Millar and her children Sam (Maddy). Lauren (Alex) Welbig, Spencer (Kelli), Delaney (Ricky) Knecht and Kally. Bev loved her son-in-law Bill Millar who passed away in 2022. The Melmer family celebrates the life of Beverly Melmer and wanted to thank all who cared for her in her later years, especially her wonderful caregivers at Twilight Vista Assisted Living Center. Funeral services have been set for Friday, August 25th at 2:00 pm at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Geddes, South Dakota. Coffee and cookies will be served after the funeral and a private burial service will be held at Lake View Cemetery in Lake Andes. The family would request a memorial in lieu of flowers.Show more
