Kenneth Wayne Tolliver, affectionately known as "Kenny," 74, of Roanoke, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, while under the compassionate care of Crestview Manor Healthcare Center. A loving husband, compassionate friend, dedicated carpenter, and inspiring grandfather, Kenneth was a beacon of faith and strength to all who knew him. His steadfast dedication to his family, his craft, and his community shaped the rich tapestry of his remarkable life. Kenny was welcomed into this world on March 29, 1949, in Buckhannon. Born to Irven and Elma Tolliver, Kenneth was a man who truly embodied the spirit of West Virginia. He was a skilled carpenter and a proud business owner, establishing himself as a vital part of his community. For over 25 years, Kenny brought life to homes with his diligent workmanship, leaving a lasting legacy through his beautiful creations. He was a humble man, yet his achievements were not unnoticed. His dedication to his craft was paralleled only by his dedication to his faith and family. A devoted member of the Orlando Baptist Church, Kenny's faith was the bedrock of his life. He taught bible school, sharing his love for God and the scriptures with generations of young believers. In his spare time, Kenny was an avid hunter, gardener, and dancer. His love for hunting whitetail deer was only surpassed by his love for his beloved wife, Brenda Kay Roush Tolliver, whom he married on June 5, 1999. His laughter and joy filled the halls of Crestview Manor Healthcare Center, where he was known for his enthusiastic bingo games. Yet, nothing brought him more joy than his grandchildren. His eyes would light up at the sight of them, and his love for them was evident in every moment he spent with them. Kenny is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Tolliver of Roanoke; four children: Kenneth Ray Tolliver and wife, Becky, of Roanoke, Randy Tolliver of Buckhannon, Beverly Zickefoose and husband, Chris, of Buckhannon, Trey Lockhart and wife, Tonya, of CA; eleven grandchildren; seven grandchildren; six siblings: Linda Matheny of Mt. Zion, Donna Jeffco and husband, Ron, of Buckhannon, Terry Tolliver and wife, Pam, of Dillwyn, VA, Roger Tolliver and wife, Ruth, of Rock Cave, David Tolliver and wife, Alice, of Rock Cave, Maxie Johnson and husband, Howard, of Buckhannon; three step-children: Connie Simons of Clarksburg, Lisa Stutler and husband, Tim, of FL, Bart Lundell and wife, Anita, of Salem; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Irven and Elma Tolliver; and one brother, Danny Tolliver. As we mourn the loss of this incredible man, we also celebrate his life, remembering the love he shared, the legacy he built, and the faith he upheld. As written in Psalm 46:1-2, "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea. Warren Wesley Dever, 94, born in Arlington, WV, on May 16, 1929, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 16, 2023. Warren was a humble man, who lived in the service of others, especially his family and the Pricetown Community where he lived. He was a dedicated member of the Miles Chapel United Methodist Church, where he greeted everyone with a warm smile every Sunday. Warren was a reliable and hardworking man who had a storied career. He was a coal truck driver before working at the WV Glass Factory. His industrious spirit led him to Allegheny Tank, where he was a trucker, and later to Halliburton, where he was a driver and shop maintenance worker. Despite his demanding professions, Warren always found time for his hobbies. He loved taking scenic drives, fishing, and camping. His supportive nature shone through in his cooking, especially his beloved brown beans and cornbread, which were always a hit at family gatherings. Warren was a devoted husband to his late wife, Shirley Ann Taylor Dever, whom he married on June 6, 1953. Their love story was one of unwavering support and dedication that served as an example to all who knew them. Warren will be remembered fondly by his son, Billy Joe Dever and wife, Doris; daughter, Frances Postalwait and husband, Kevin; seven grandchildren: Eric Dever of Weston, Danny Dever and wife, Cindy, of Weston, Jamie Dever and wife, Laura, of Weston, Tony Toms and wife, Lisa, of Weston, Chad Toms of Weston, Anna Stump and husband, Charlie, of Weston, and Alisha Jones of Weston; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; two sisters: Phyllis Hodges and husband, Jim, of Reedsville, and Sharon Butcher of Weston; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; six step-great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and cherished family friend, Mamie Edenton. In addition to his wife, Warren was preceded in death by his parents: Robert Franklin Dever and Edith Frances Riffle; grandson, Billy Joe Dever II; two great-grandsons, Tanner and Tucker Toms; one sister, Juanita Linder; and two brothers: Woody Powers and Granville Lee Dever. In the words of the Bible, "Well done, good and faithful servant!. . . Enter into the joy of your master. " (Matthew 25:23). Warren's life was a testament to these words. Paul E. Alkire, 98, of Hackers Creek passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023. He passed after an extended period of compassionate care from WVU Home Health with special gratitude for 'Walkersville', whom he loved, and the staff at SJMH (esp. Eric, Brittany and Al) that were extra special with his final care. He was born on Hackers Creek on October 15, 1925, a son of the late Goodloe and Ogarita Smith Alkire. Paul is survived by his bride, Sona Minnich Alkire. The two were married on November 3, 1950, and shared the joys of marriage for just over 73 years. She will miss him dearly. Also surviving Paul are three children: John J. Alkire Sr. and wife, Selene, of Hackers Creek, Julie A. Alkire of Weston, and Jeanne A. Sherry and husband, Walter, of Anderson, SC; two grandchildren: Col. Jonathan P. Eizenberg, USAF and Dr. Jesse Vrecenak of St Louis, MO, and John J. Alkire Jr. and Janelle of Weston; six great-grandchildren: James P. Alkire, Sloanne E. Alkire, John "Jacob" Alkire III, Abigail Eizenberg, Netanel Eizenberg, and Aviel Eizenberg; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by one daughter, Rita S. Alkire; one son-in-law, Zvi Eisenberg; one granddaughter, Amy Eizenberg; and three siblings and their spouses: Harry S. Alkire and wife, Mildred, Hallie M. Haverty and husband, Oral, and Eva L. Young and husband, Donald. Paul graduated Valedictorian of Jane Lew High School Class of 1943. He spent his career in various fields including farming, as a technician for the US Soil Conservation Service, and former co-owner of Minnich Florist in Weston. Paul was a member of the Lewis Co Farm Bureau. He was Methodist by faith and attended the Fairview Methodist Church. Paul was a selfless husband and father with an amazing sense of humor. He loved to tend to his farm, mow grass, and keep the homestead immaculate. Eva Lee Smith, born on October 14, 1934, in Buckhannon, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. Throughout her 89 years, Eva Lee lived a fulfilling life characterized by adventure, creativity, and love. She resided in Weston, where she was a beloved member of her community. Eva Lee was an adventurous spirit who loved to explore the world around her. She relished the excitement of camping and fishing trips and was always ready to embark on a travel adventure. Her hardworking nature shone through in her work as a Sales Rep at Browns Lumber Specialty Shop in Weston, where she retired after many dedicated years of service. After her retirement, Eva Lee spent her leisure time visiting the Lewis County Senior Citizens Center, crocheting, and sewing, creating beautiful pieces that were cherished by all who received them. Eva Lee was a loving individual, whose warmth and kindness touched everyone who knew her. She is survived by her daughter, Pauletta Malick; two grandchildren: Manda Lynn Ashworth and husband, Jim, and Meranda Lee Keller; one great-grandchild, Colton Lee Keller; two step-great-grandchildren: Andy and Jenna Ashworth; one brother, Roy Bennett and wife, Joy; and several nieces and nephews. She was widowed, having been married on July 3, 1953, to her late husband, Dennis Gray Smith. With great love and profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Vada Lee Mills, 79, of Weston, a beacon of compassion, wit, and unwavering devotion to her family. She passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home and surrounded by loving family on Monday, November 13, 2023. Born on January 20, 1944, in Jim, WV, a daughter of the late Dennis Freeman Monroe and Virginia Allen West Monroe. In addition to her parents, Vada was preceded in death by one brother, Terry Alexander Monroe. Vada's life was a testament to the Methodist hymn: "The love of God is greater far, than tongue or pen can ever tell. " Her life was an embodiment of this verse, as her love for her family and community was immeasurable. Vada was a woman of many talents. After graduating from Weston High School in 1962, she married the love of her life, Robert Mills, on June 24, 1962, and together they built a family rooted in love and mutual respect. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years, nurturing her children with a motherly tenderness that defined her. Later in life, Vada returned to school and earned her Master's Degree in Nursing from West Virginia University. Her empathetic nature led her to a fulfilling career at William R. Sharpe Hospital in Weston, where she worked as a Psychiatric Nurse and a Legal Nurse Consultant. Despite her professional achievements, Vada often said that what mattered most to her were her family and her grandchildren, whom she adored. A lover of nature, Vada found joy in simple pleasures like gardening, bird watching, and cooking. She was known for her scrumptious meals that brought everyone to the table. Her passion for reading was infectious and she had a knack for making every person feel seen and heard. In every sense, Vada was a giver; her sincere and selfless nature touched the hearts of everyone around her. Vada is survived by her devoted husband, Robert L. Mills, of Weston; four children: Robert D. It is with deep sorrow and great love that we mourn the passing of Richard Thomas Forinash, of Jane Lew, who passed away at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport on Friday, November 10, 2023, at the age of 91. Born in Weston on August 4, 1932, Richard was a man of devotion, hard work, and immense love for his family. He was a graduate of Weston High School, class of 1951, and proudly served as a Corporal in the United States Army. Richard was the successful owner and operator of Forinash & Son Lumber Company for over 50 years, carrying the legacy of his family business with integrity and resilience. Richard was a lover of the outdoors. His passion for these activities was evident in his hobbies, which included hunting, fishing, and mowing grass. He was also an ardent WV Mountaineer Fan and a bowler for over 60 years. Richard even had his own bowling team. His love for community service was well-known, and he was a life-long member of Loyal Order of the Moose Weston Lodge #1376, a former member of the Weston Jaycees, and the Weston Volunteer Fire Department. A dedicated member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church, Richard lived his life based on the scripture, "But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord. Michael Tierney Jr

Michael Francis Tierney, 88, of the Gee Lick Community in Weston passed away in the comfort of his home on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, following a brief illness. Michael was born in Lewis County on March 12, 1935, a son of the late Michael Francis Tierney, Sr. and Gertrude Foley Tierney. Michael was the last survivor of his large Irish family. On February 23, 1963, he married Marjorie Hyre Tierney, who survives. Michael is also survived by two sons: Michael F. Tierney III, of Gee Lick, and Chadley J. Tierney and wife, Wendelin "Wendy" Cole Tierney, of Fairmont; one granddaughter, Madison Faith Tierney of Fairmont; two sisters-in-law: Martha Tierney of Clarksburg and Carol Tierney of West Palm Beach, FL; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Michael is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Emily Grace Tierney; and nine siblings: Gertrude Judith Beeson and husband, Larry, Catherine Russell Sleeth and husband, Ted, Ellen Myers and husband, Dale, Colette Danek and husband, George, Marjorie Anne Graves and husband, Turner, Mary Patricia Proctor and husband, Steve, James Edward Tierney and wife, Jane, Nicholas J. Tierney, and David Tierney. After graduating from St. Patrick High School in 1955, Michael worked in various jobs throughout Lewis County. He worked at West Virginia Glass for nine years prior to his employment with Corhart Refractories in Buckhannon where he retired after 20 years of service. In his younger years, Michael was a member of the Jaycees and Moose club. He coached little league basketball and was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Catholic Church where he served as an usher for 20 years. He loved woodworking especially when he came across a difficult pattern. Michael never gave up and enjoyed the challenge. He crafted one-of-a-kind swings, Adriondack deck chairs, tables, and several other fun wood items. Michael was especially proud of the shaving horses he created to be used in making white oak woven baskets. Upon closure of the Clarksburg post office, Michael purchased the fronts of the postal boxes and fashioned beautiful coin banks for his family and friends. He was an outdoorsman and loved hunting. In later years, Michael enjoyed hunting with his son and any time in the woods where he was in awe at the beauty God gave us. Blair O. Wright, 82, born on October 29, 1940, in Rosedale, WV, and a resident of Jane Lew, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Friday, October 27, 2023. He was the son of the late, Glen Wright and Mary Pearl Shamblin Wright. In addition to his parents, Blair was preceded in death by five siblings: Bern Wright, Fern Marks, Blaine Wright, Eleanor Wolfe, and Arnett Furr. As Mark Twain once wrote, "The secret of getting ahead is getting started," and Blair, a man of action and determination, truly lived by this principle. He embarked on his journey of success right after graduating from Normantown High School in 1958, continued his education at Charleston School of Commerce, and then dedicated 38 years in various positions before retiring as a computer programmer with Equitable Gas. His commitment and hard work didn't just stop at his occupation; he was also the proud owner/operator of Sprint Print in Bridgeport. Blair was a man of diverse interests and talents. He was a HAM radio operator, a motorcycle racer, and had a keen interest in photography and film developing. He also loved woodworking, farming, and anything outdoors. He was the founder of Normantown Historical Community Center and Food Pantry and was a former Sunday School teacher at Harmony United Methodist Church. Blair's love for community service was evident as he served as the former president of the Clarksburg Bowling Association. As Helen Keller said, "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all. " Blair lived his life as a daring adventure, always eager to learn, and more than willing to share his insightful knowledge with others. Blair was a man of wisdom, strength, and love, who is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Ann Boggs, whom he married on June 19, 1959. Their love and commitment to each other have been a testament to their enduring bond. He is also survived by two children: Jeffery Wright and wife, Barbara, of Bridgeport, and Suzanne Fisher of Gallipolis, OH; five grandchildren: Zane Wright, Dr. Zachary Wright and wife, Dr. Maggie Moreland, Megan Fisher, Katelyn Fisher, and Lauren Fisher; two great-grandchildren: Benjamin Taylor, and Lilly Donohue; two step-grandchildren: Dr. Derrek Gilbert, and Lauren Smith and husband, Jason; three step-great-grandchildren: Jada, Judah, and Jireh Smith. With a heart as pure as a ringing bell, Donna Jean "Shabells" Hebb was a beacon of light in a world that often felt dark. Born in Clarksburg on May 25, 1957, Donna Jean was a special soul, gracing the world with her angelic presence until Sunday, October 15, 2023, when she passed away in the comfort of her home. Her life was a testament to the power of unconditional love, and her spirit was as captivating as it was unforgettable. Her doctors had predicted she would only live to be 16 years old. However, she defied those odds and living to the age of 66, inspiring others with a fulfilling life well beyond their expectations. Donna Jean lived her life like a beautifully crafted bell, her resonating spirit touching all who knew her. Never employed, she found her true calling in the simple joys of life. Her love for bells was emblematic of her unique perspective on the world. Each bell, like Donna Jean herself, had a distinct and beautiful sound that filled the air with joy and wonder. Donna Jean found beauty in the simple things, such as swinging, playing with ropes, and listening to oldies music, and she taught those around her to do the same. She is survived by her six siblings, who cherished her dearly: Barbara Jo Butcher and husband, Linn, Karen Sue Wise, Leola Gwen Brandli and companion, Deward Jenkins, Jerry Albert Hebb and wife, Cindy, Phyllis Faye Wanstreet, and Patricia "Patty" Ann Lafferty; one brother-in-law: Eugene "Buddy" Smith; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents: Albert McHenry Hebb and Bessie Pearl Phillips Hebb; and two sisters: Nancy Kay Hitt and Sharon Lea Smith. Just as a bell's echo lingers even after the ringing has stopped, Donna Jean's legacy will continue to resonate in the lives of those who knew her. Donna Jean was more than just a bell in the symphony of life; she was a melody that touched us all. With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Jeanne Murphy on October 5, 2023, after a courageous 13-year battle with dementia. A beloved wife, devoted mother, and adoring grandmother, Jeanne is survived by her husband, James Murphy; daughters: Annathea Nackrelli (Joe Nackrelli), Elyse Knight (Joe Knight), and Breauna Murphy; grandchildren: Taylar, Ben, Cohen, Eli, Carson, Liam, & Hattie; and two brothers: Donald (Susan) and David (Evonne) Harper. Jim and Jeanne met while playing music in a folk group at a small church in West Virginia. It was music that brought them together, and they played beautiful music together for over 47 years. Their marriage was a shining example of unwavering love, support, and commitment. Although the last 13 years were challenging, Jeanne always referred to her husband as the love of her live and would remark on how lucky she was to have a Jim MurphyJeanne was an elementary school teacher, as well as a GED teacher at various schools in West Virginia, but found her home at St. Mary's Catholic School in Clarksburg teaching kindergarten. Alas, she could not convince the school to change their hours and her love of being up late led to a career change working the midnight shift at the FBI complex where she worked until retirement. She loved her children and her grandchildren immensely. She was very creative and loved art. She played piano and wasn't shabby with a guitar either. Jeanne loved a good cup of tea and would reluctantly share sips with her most loved people. She never passed up an opportunity to go into a gift shop looking for the perfect tea mug to add to her collection. Jeanne was preceded in death by her son, Brenton Murphy who lost his courageous battle with cancer in 2018, as well as, her parents: Harold and Emma Harper; and her sister, Mary Gwen Harper. A memorial service will be held on October 28, 2023 at Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church in Philippi, WV at 1:00 with a reception and celebration of her life following the service.
