Kenneth Griffin Robinson II passed away on April 23, 2019. A memorial service will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Monday, April 29, 2019. Visitation will be at 2:30 followed by a memorial service at 3:30. Kenneth was born in Shinnston, W. Virginia in 1934, the son of Kenneth Griffin Robinson and Helen Pauline Sturm Robinson. At birth, his grandmother said he looked like a "Tommy" thus, since then, other than business acquaintances, he has been known as Tom. He and his wife Pat were married in 1956. They have two daughters, Karen Sarcone and Paula Adams (Tom), 6 grandchildren; Lauren Gonzalez (Jim), Ryan Watson, Caroline Watson, Susan Sarcone, Sara Wilson (Matt) and Sumner Adams; 2 great grandchildren, James Gonzalez and Luke Gonzalez, all of whom called him "Daddy Tom". And, not to be overlooked, a very spoiled dog, Lizzie. Tom graduated from the University of Maryland in 1957 with a business degree and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Immediately following graduation, he joined the Air Force where he trained and became a pilot in the Strategic Air Command. He left the Air Force five years later with the rank of Captain, joined IBM and was transferred to Birmingham, AL in 1963. After leaving IBM he founded Computer Servicecenters, Inc. in 1967. In 1975 he attended Harvard University's Small Business Company Management Program and founded Command Data, Inc. Tom and Command Data have focused 100% of their efforts in serving the construction materials industry since 1982. In 2001 he successfully merged with Alkon Corporation forming one of the largest construction materials industry software companies in the world, Command Alkon. For years Tom has been dedicated to the work of the Salvation Army. He joined the Advisory Board as Board Chairman, the Executive Committee, often making lead gifts, and helped launch the Educational Workforce Development Center by setting up an inaugural endowment to fund scholarships for program participants. Tom's life long passion was boating. We have spent many happy and exciting trips with family and friends at Ocean Reef, Fisher Island, the Bahamas and at sea. He did it all - ran aground, bent props, ran out of fuel and all this time laughing saying "it was all part of boating." Tom was a member of the downtown Kiwanis Club, The Club, Vestavia Country Club and the Wednesday Jolly Boys. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Griffin Robinson and Pauline Sturm Robinson and his two sisters, Lois Kathryn Wilson and Jerry Lou Powell. He will be remembered as a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather, a kind and generous man who never sought credit or attention; a man of integrity and leadership capabilities who will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
