Shirley Elizabeth Haas, age 83, of Lenoir, North Carolina passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023. Shirley was predeceased by her father, Avery Grayson Coffey and her mother, Mamie Elizabeth (Clay) Coffey. She is survived by her daughter Kathi Cheek (Larry) of Lenoir, N. C. and her son Kenny Haas of Granite Falls, N. C. and another son, Michael Haas (Lisa), of Lenoir, N. C. and a brother Royce Coffey of Lenoir, N. C.
Shirley retired from the Lenoir News-Topic after having worked there for twenty-five years.
She was a member of Gamewell Methodist Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Those left to cherish her memory are her three children and six grandchildren, Kaylor, Karrie, Jonathan, Michael Lee, Joshua Andrew, Preston, and nine great-grandchildren, Cooper, Stella, Dixie, Chloe, Avery, Waylon, Andrew, Mia, and Maylee. She loved being and working outdoors with her flowers.
A funeral service will be held in Pendry's Funeral Home chapel on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 2:00 p. m. with the Reverend Gray Williams officiating. Interment will occur immediately following the funeral service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Lenoir, N. C. with Rev. Walter Lundy. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 from 1:00 p. m. to 1:50 p. m. at Pendry's Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers are Jonathan Marley, Michael Lee Haas, Joshua Andrew Haas, Larry Cheek, Jesse Adams, and Bruce Angle.
