Lois Marie Carter, 90, of Maryville, and formerly of Barnard, MO, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023, at the Maryville Living Center. Lois was born near Hopkins, MO, on January 25, 1933. Her parents were Elbert Taylor and Leola Arcile (Peery) Wray. She graduated from the Graham High School in 1951, and had lived many years in the Barnard, MO, area, and in Maryville the past 2 years. She married Kenneth Howard Acklin in the home of Rev. L. B. Day, in Maryville, on November 26, 1950, he passed away in 2006. Then she married Richard Carter, and he passed away in 2021. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Edith Lyle, and brother, Harold Wray. She had worked as a dietician, social activities director and later a social worker at the Village Care Center, Golden Living Center, and Nodaway Nursing Home, all of Maryville. Lois attended the United Methodist Church, Graham, MO. And was once a part of the Sweet Adelines, of St. Joseph, MO. She enjoyed singing and music and played the organ and sang at Church. She leaves behind her children: son, Howard (Janet) Acklin, Graham, MO, her daughters, Lorinda Wente, St. Joseph, MO, Patricia (Frank) Myers, Maryville, MO, Kim (Rex) Patterson, St. Joseph, MO, and Anita (Chris) Gerhardt, Algona, IA, 9 grandchildren: Jeff (Megan), Scott (Erin), and Nick (Jamie) Madden, Tom (Hayley) Brockman, Melanie (Jake) Rice, Adam (April) Acklin, Patrick Gerhardt, Megan (Adam) Asche, and Kelly Gerhardt, 15 great grandchildren: Jessi, Matthew, Jackson, Gracie, Andrew, Noah, Barrett, Aiden, Asher, Harley, Easton, Rhiannon, Christopher, Owen, and Emmet, and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11:30 AM, on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at the Bram Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. The burial will follow in the Prairie Home Cemetery, Graham, MO. Stetson Ashley Jackson, 38, of Barnard, MO, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, July 8, 2023. Stetson was born in Maryville, MO, on August 4, 1984, to Randy M. and Kara L. (Akin) Jackson. He had lived in Nodaway County all his life. He graduated from South Nodaway High School in Barnard, MO, in 2003, and had attended Missouri Western State University, St. Joseph, MO. Stetson was a contractor and owner and operator of S&S Jackson Construction. He was a loyal member and Deacon of the Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville. He had gone on many local and foreign church mission trips over the years. Stetson liked the outdoors, and especially hunting, fishing and playing golf. He had recently returned from a bear hunting trip to Alaska. On March 12, 2005, at the Frist Christian Church in Maryville, Stetson was united in marriage to Sarah Jamine Lewis. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his children, Gavin Miles, Aubrey Paige and Hayden Grace Jackson, of the home. His parents, Randy and Kara Jackson, Barnard, MO, his sister, Shanelle (Dallas) Kidd, Lenexa, KS, and brother, Sterling (Melissa) Jackson, Savannah, MO, his maternal grandfather, Max Akin, Maryville, and nieces and nephews, Wyatt and Morgan Jackson, and MacKinzie, Lilly and Sailor Kidd. His paternal grandparents, Beverly and Doyle Jackson, his maternal grandmother, Lela Fern Akin, and his Uncle Rodney Jackson preceded him in death. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, on Friday, July 14, 2023, at the Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville, MO. The burial will follow in the Salem Cemetery, Pumpkin Center, MO. Wendell was born on March 28, 1926, in Maryville, MO, to Theodore F. and Esther (Neidel) Palmer. They preceded him in death. He graduated from Central High School, St. Joseph, MO. He served in the US Army until 1952. On March 13, 1952, he married Irene Monday at the First United Methodist Church, in Maryville, MO. They lived on a farm West of Barnard their whole married life. Irene passed from this life on November 5, 2015. Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his sister, Mary Louise Reardon, his brother, Marvin Palmer, 4 sisters-in-law Roberta Palmer, Ruth Hill, Bonnie Durham, and Marilyn K. Lindley, 4 brother-in-law, Jack Patterson, Max Hill, Dave Reardon and Louis Lindley. Wendell is survived by his 3 children, David (Sally) Palmer, Bolckow, MO, Kathy A. Sheila Dianne Kiser, 68, of Barnard, MO, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, MO. Sheila was born in Maryville, MO, on September 18, 1954, to Paul Richard "Dick" and Betty Lee (Mowry) Kiser. She was a lifelong resident of the area. She graduated in 1972 from South Nodaway High School and worked for 34 years in general production, at Eveready in Maryville. She had attended the Barnard Methodist Church, and was a former member of Beta Sigma Phi, both of Barnard. She enjoyed staying in contact with her former work mates at Eveready. She loved attending and keeping track of her niece and nephews and great nieces and nephews' school and sporting events. She also loved her dog. Her parents preceded her in death, and also her brother-in-law, Ben Espey. She is survived by her sister, Sharon K. Espey, Barnard, MO, her niece, Jennifer (Spencer) Miller, Barnard, her nephew, Jared (Jennifer) Espey, Cole Camp, MO, and her great nieces and nephews, Jessica, Wyatt, and Justin Miller, and Will and Jolee Espey. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, January 16, 2023, at the Bram Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home. Harold Dean Holaday, 89, Barnard, Missouri, has gone from our world to meet with his Lord and Savior on November 16, 2022. Harold was born on February 20, 1933 to Loren Reed and Edith (Barnes) Holaday at home in Barnard, Missouri. Harold graduated from Horace Mann in Maryville, Missouri in 1952. He married Jacqueline "Jackie" Dowling on August 10, 1952. She preceded him in 2017. From this marriage they have four children, Michael (Debbie) Holaday, Caron (Victor) Coulter and Malinda (Wes) Pangle all from Barnard, Missouri and the youngest daughter, Lisa (Kirby) Parker, Allen, Texas. He has eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren and one due in December. Also surviving Harold are brother, Donald (Marilyn) Holaday, Maryville, Missouri, Mary Karen (Dave) Christensen, Savannah, Missouri and Roger Salisbury (Donna) Guilford, Missouri. Harold farmed all his life and also worked different jobs, MFA, Barnard and NWMSU library custodian. He had a love and knack with horses that he passed on to his son, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Harold was a member of the Barnard Christian Church where he was a elder, deacon and treasure for many years. Harold will be dearly missed by his family but knowing he is reuniting with his wife in heaven comforts them all. Services 10:30am Saturday, November 19th at the Barnard Christian Church under the care of Price Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Barnard American Legion Cemetery. Richard Eugene Schafer, 66, of Barnard, MO unexpectedly passed away October 5, 2022, at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, MO. Richard was born on July 8, 1956, in Maryville, MO to Herman and Kathleen Schafer. He graduated from Nodaway Holt RVII in Graham, MO and attended Northwest Missouri State University of Maryville, MO as a member of the traveling livestock judging team. He left the university to pursue farming and the creation of HRS Feedlot with his family. Later, Richard pursued his passion for horses creating a successful breeding program with multiple notable champions and representation around the world. Other achievements include creating hay and feed services for Racetracks covering the central US, custom hauling of seedstock livestock for international export and finally owning a small trucking company. He married Linda (Kenny) Schafer April 30, 1977. They had a joyous marriage of over 45 years. He was a kind and loving husband as well as an amazing father to their daughter Sara Reardon and son Curtis Schafer. Richard was a hard-working man that instilled the importance of effort, endurance and that no job is too big to accomplish or dream. Richard was preceded in death by his father Herman Schafer and brother Tony Schafer. Richard's survivors include his wife Linda of the home, his Mother Kathleen Schafer, two children; Curt (Abbie) Schafer of Barnard, MO, Sara (Brian) Reardon, Clarksdale, MO, three grandchildren; Shelby, Charleigh Schafer and Ruby Reardon, four brothers; Ronnie (Lori) Schafer, Joe (Pam) Schafer both of Skidmore, MO, Raymond Schafer of Maryville, MO, Dan (Sheila) Schafer, Barnard, MO, three sisters; Stephanie (Tim) Woolery, Linda (Scott) Gallagher, and Teresa (Mike) Davis, all three of Maryville, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Leo Ray Brinson, 82, of Barnard, MO, passed away on September 11, 2022, at the Hospital in St. Joseph, MO. Leo was born December 4, 1939, in rural Barnard, MO. His parents were Raymond Brinson and Grace (Blair) Brinson. He was preceded in death by both parents and one grandchild Matthew Gustafson. He was a 1957 graduate of Graham, MO High School. Leo served his country in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964. He later was a member of the Missouri National Guard. On November 13, 1966, he was united in marriage to Wanda Schuman at the Christian Church in Troy, KS. Leo was a lifelong farmer in the Nodaway County Area. He was a livestock and grain farmer. His hobbies were old cars as well as snowmobiling. He also enjoyed traveling especially to Hawaii and Alaska. He is survived by wife Wanda of the home, one son Douglas Ray Brinson of Barnard, MO; one daughter Marcia (Darren) King of Stafford, VA; two grandsons, Andrew and Michael Gustafson; one brother Leon (Mary) Brinson of Savannah, MO. Services will be held at the Bethany Christian Church rural Barnard, MO, at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 16, 2022. Military Honors will be conducted at the Bethany Church cemetery.
