Kenneth E. "Poodle" Grotewiel, 93, of Fulton, formerly of Mokane, passed away at Boone Hospital in Columbia on June 20, 2022. He was born on January 25, 1929, in Steedman, Missouri, to the late Hugo Grotewiel and the late Sibyl (McCeerey) Grotewiel. On February 28, 1953, he was united in marriage to Berniece (Stafford) Grotewiel. She survives his passing. Poodle proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a devoted community servant contributing in various roles to the Callaway County Democratic Central Committee, Mokane Masonic Lodge, Mokane City Council, Steedman Methodist Church Board, Steedman Cemetery Board, Mokane Volunteer Fire Department, and South Callaway Fire Protection District. Poodle worked at Danuser Machine Company for 18 years and retired after 25 years' service as a Rural Letter Carrier. While he was proud of the service to his country and his community contributions, Poodle was proudest of his family. Often saying his greatest accomplishment was marrying his wife, Berniece, he also cherished his daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Poodle was known as a Jack of All Trades, having the ability to fix anything--the pride he had in his workmanship was always apparent. His outgoing personality and ability to strike up a conversation with absolutely anyone will provide treasured memories to all who will miss him. Poodle is survived by his wife of 69 years, Berniece; daughter, Kenda Shindler (Mike); former son-in-law, Loran Hume; grandchildren, Tiffany Cox (Clint), Lauren Nelson (Tyler), and Morgan Baumhoer (Matt); great-grandchildren, Libby, Elliot, Shay, and Hudson. Friends Like Family who will mourn Poodle's passing include Katie Dempsey Anderson (Adam) of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, Christa, Carly, and Mason Baumhoer of Kingdom City, Missouri, Dave and Mary Baumhoer of Fulton, Missouri, Vicki Turner Gwinn (Mike) and Kathleen Turner of Washington, Missouri, Danny and Cindy Leigh of Rio Vista, Texas, Rick and Kathy Omohundro of Fulton, Missouri, Tom and Steve Vandelicht of Fulton, Missouri, and B. J. , Monica, and Dalton Young of Fulton. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sharon Hume and brother, Jim Grotewiel. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p. m. on June 23, 2022, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Pastor Kay Hord officiating. Friends will be received from 12:00 p. m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Steedman Cemetery with Military Honors.
