Donald Ivan Lewis, age 93, of Indianapolis, Indiana died Tuesday, November 28, 2023. Born August 20, 1930, in Brookville, Indiana, he was the son of the late Dewey and Emma (Schutt) Lewis. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to the former Arbia Faye Knupp on February 14, 1959 and she preceded him in death on December 31, 2017. Don was retired, having been self employed for much of his life in the insurance industry in Indianapolis, Indiana.Don loved being a father, coached his children in many sports and never missed a game, school event or a bad dad joke. Many believed he raised his children like wild animals, but who’s to say. He was ahead of his time in that he taught his boys that cooking, washing dishes,and laundry were not “women’s work”. He taught his daughter that she could do anything a man could do. He always wanted his children to do better than he had. He was very proud of the educational and professional achievements of his children and grandchildren. Survivors include four children, Michael Andrew (Kim) Lewis, of Cincinnati, Ohio, David Ellis(Sue) Lewis, of Indianapolis, Indiana, Scott Douglas Lewis of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Sara Jane Waits of Louisville, Kentucky; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, and wife Faye, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Lewis and one grandchild, Grace Emma Lewis The Bernard Hurst Post #77 of the American Legion honor guard will officiate the Military Graveside Service at 12:00 noon, Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville. Born on January 14, 1981, in White County, IN, Josh was a vibrant soul known for his genuine character. Josh had a natural affinity for creation and the outdoors. Whether it was renovating homes or sculpting landscapes, he found joy in bringing beauty to the world around him. His hands were his tools, and he used them to shape the world around him. Beyond his talents, Josh radiated loyalty and deep affection for his chosen family. To Josh, friends were more than just acquaintances. His magnetic personality filled every room with warmth, and his presence was a constant source of joy. Fearlessly authentic, Josh lived life on his own terms, embracing his true self without apology. He believed in speaking his mind and wearing his heart on his sleeve, knowing that life was too short for anything less than honesty. Josh leaves behind his husband, Christopher Underwood; his mother, Jennifer (Bob) Jordan, his sister, Jessica (Joshua) Tarr, and a host of beloved friends, including Zac Coleman, Alix Michelfelder, Betsy Tudor, Morgan Stephens, Timothy Winkle, Damon Laster, Kyle Batson, Kyle Myers, and Emily Francis. There will be a graveside service held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2024, at the Hillcrest Cemetery. Cremation was chosen. Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service are entrusted with the arrangements. Born on April 29, 1935, in Jennings County, Opal was the loving daughter of Raymond D. and Grace Margaret (Yeager) Shonk. Opal graduated in 1953 from Lawrence Central High School. She retired for RCA Opal Radio, which was named after her. She enjoyed traveling, going to casinos, and reading. Most of all, Opal loved spending time with her family and friends. Left to cherish Opal’s memory is daughter, Lyn McElroy of Indianapolis; son, Mark E. McElroy of Winchester; grandchildren, Sheila Marie McElroy, Amanda Christine Cox, and Matthew Aaron McElroy; six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Grace Shonk; sisters, Barbara P. Niles, Laura J. Noe, and Alice L. Matlock. Mr Johnnie Gamill, “Dada” was born January 10, 1935, in Belzoni, Mississippi to Sam Gamill and Annie Carpenter. Johnnie departed this life on February 15, 2024, at the age of 89. During his life Johnnie worked at Bernstein Salvage and Strap Yard in Indianapolis. He devoted 52 years to them before he retired, ending his career with the well-earned reputation of a very hard and dedicated worker. Johnnie was united in matrimony to Annette Jones, and they shared 62 years together and their union was blessed with seven children. Johnnie’s first marriage was blessed with five children. Johnnie enjoyed life to the greatest. He had the most amazing personality and a smile that could brighten your day; he was an amazing man. He enjoyed spending his time with his family and friends, often playing cards. He loved listening to music and was a talented bass guitarist. Johnnie was THE Fix-It Man, always fixing things around the house and working on cars. Johnnie’s all-time favorite hobby was fishing, he enjoyed it most of all. He was not fussy about who his fishing partner(s) would be that day, so long as they were able to go. He found a solace and peace on the water rarely found anywhere else. Johnnie leaves to cherish his memory his children Lorraine Gamill, Dorothy Elders, Magadaline Gamill, Annie Brinson, Terri L Jones, Gerlyn Jenkins, Regina Gamill, and Alex L. Gamill; his brother Sam Gamill; seventeen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Burnett gave her life to God at an early age being baptized in the name of Jesus Christ at Henry County Apostolic Pentecostal Church of God under the leadership of Elder Water McBride Later receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit.Burnett was a faithful and dedicated member serving wherever needed in the body of Christ, Barnett loved her family and enjoyed working in her yard in her spare time. In 1980 Burnett relocated to Indianapolis IN where she became a member of Zion Tabernacle Apostolic Faith Church under the leadership of Bishop Thomas E Griffith Serving as a faithful member for over 40 years. She worked in retail at Value City for 12 yers and TJ max for 19 years where she retired. Burnett was preceded in death by her father and mother John William and Mamie Milton.Brunette leaves to Cherish her memories her beloved son Jonathan Milton, two Brothers William(Jean) Milton, John(Pamala) Milton, three Sisters Linda Armstrong, Vanessa (Eddie) Waymyers, Sylvia (William) Milton-Crute.
