Barbara Jordan Sorrells, 102, passed away on February 19, 2024. She was born in Lawrenceville, Georgia on May 4, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Albert Barton Jordan and Maude Lee Jordan. She is predeceased by her husband Walker B. Sorrells and grandson Carson Cooper. She is survived by her children Barton Sorrells (Judith) and Susan Cooper (Ed) and grandsons, Jordan Sorrells and Justin Sorrells. Barbara was a graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in B. S. Education. She was a high school English teacher in the Gwinnett County Schools, Georgia and Monroe, Georgia schools. Mrs. Sorrells and her husband Walker were long time members of Providence United Methodist Church. A service to celebrate her life will be at Providence United Methodist Church, 2810 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28211 on Friday March 1st at 2:00. Visitation will follow after the celebration in the atrium. A private burial will be at Sharon Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Providence United Methodist Church, 2810 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28211 or a charity of your choice. McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park is serving the family.

Brent Eugene Davis, 48 of Reeps Grove Church Road, Vale, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Carolinas Medical Center - Main. Born in Catawba County, on June 30, 1975, he was the son of the Michael E. Davis and Pamela Boyles Davis. Brent was preceded in death by his grandparents, Kenneth and Peggy Boyles and Steve Davis. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his daughters, Bailey Davis of Vale, Amber Wilfong and husband, Tyler of Vale and Chelsea Davis of Lincolnton; sister, Brandi Leatherman and husband, Randy of Vale; nephew, Kade Leatherman; niece, Destiny Leatherman and grandmother, Artie Davis of Vale. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at 3:00 pm at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Butch Ross and Rev. Johnathan LeMasters-Smith officiating. The burial will follow the service in the Macedonia United Methodist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Macedonia United Methodist Church, c/o Susan Bivens, 2237 Ellis Hoyle Road, Vale NC 28168 or to Harvest Baptist Church, 3205 Zion Church Road, Hickory, NC 28602. Ruth Edna Wells

Ruth Edna Wells passed away on February 22, 2024 in Charlotte, NC. She died peacefully after a short illness with family members by her side. Ruth was born on September 20, 1928 in Marietta, Ohio to Edna Wells (Nuzum) and William D. Wells. She is survived by her three daughters, Cyndee Patterson (husband John Munce), Malinda Wells, and Christine Frayne (husband Tim). She also is survived by grandchild, Ashley Wells Suhr, Henry (Hank) Patterson, Lori Atkins, and Felicia Gorham. Ruth was predeceased by her husband James H. Turkett who passed away in September of 2013. Ruth lived for many years in Miami, Florida raising her family. She received her Associates degree from Miami Dade Junior College and also held a South Carolina Real Estate License. While in Miami she worked for Sears and Roebuck in the Customer Service area. She later become the office manager at the YMCA of Miami. In 1969, she moved with her family to Greenville, SC, where she worked for several real estate firms as an office manager. Ruth was a lifelong Lutheran and while living in Greenville was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior. A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1901 Wade Hampton Boulevard, Greenville, SC on Friday, March 1 at 1 pm, with a reception to follow.

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Valencia White, who peacefully departed from this world on February 22, 2024, at her residence. She was 62 years old. Valencia was born on November 7, 1961, in Glen Cove, New York, to her beloved mother, Carrie White, and the late Irving Russell White. She graduated from Westbury Senior High School in 1980, carrying with her the values of kindness, integrity, and perseverance that defined her character throughout her life. Valencia will be fondly remembered as a loving sister, daughter, friend, aunt, and wife. Her heart overflowed with compassion, and she touched the lives of many with her warmth and generosity. Her unwavering love and caring nature left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She is survived by her devoted mother, Carrie White; her cherished sister, Maxine White; her former spouse, Garry Volcy; and a multitude of cousins, nieces, and nephews who will carry her memory in their hearts forever. A celebration of Valencia\u0027s life will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 1:00 pm at the Heritage Funeral Home Indian Trail Chapel, where friends and family will gather to honor her legacy and share cherished memories. Though she may be gone from our sight, Valencia\u0027s spirit will live on eternally in the lives of those she loved and touched. "Wayne H. Blauvelt, age 79, passed away on February 10, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and compassion. He was born on December 23, 1944, in Westminster, MD, to the late Charles Howard and Esta Elizabeth Hiltabridle Blauvelt. Wayne earned his Bachelor\u0027s degree in Urban Studies and Planning from the University of Maryland-College Park. Throughout his life, he held various roles in urban planning, real estate, and finance, leaving a mark of dedication and professionalism in each endeavor. His career took him to different cities, including Westminster, MD; Frederick, MD; San Francisco, CA; and Newport Beach, CA. In 1985, Wayne married June Marchigiani, and they shared eight years of marriage before parting ways in 1993. He cherished his family dearly, with his daughter, Robin, holding a special place in his heart. Robin was his whole world, and his devotion to her was unwavering. Wayne had a diverse range of hobbies which included sailing, golfing, and reading. He found joy in spending time with his family and friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever. Throughout his life, Wayne\u0027s kindness knew no bounds. He went above and beyond to care for others, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His warmth and generosity of spirit made him a special man who touched many lives and made friends wherever he went. Wayne was also a devoted pet parent to his beloved dogs, Bertha, Patrick, and Rascal, who have all crossed the rainbow bridge but remain cherished in his memory. Wayne is survived by his daughter, Robin A. Wolfe, his son-in-law, Bryan L. Wolfe, and his grandson, Graham H. Wolfe. He is also survived by his sister, Rita Patterson, his niece, Mary Beth Sprouse, and her family. The Blauvelt family, including aunts, uncles, and cousins, along with friends such as the Vautrin family, Frank and Pepper Scotto, Rich Dillon and Gail Nyce, and the Sundergills and Marchigiani families, mourn his passing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be made to your local animal shelter in honor of Wayne\u0027s love for animals and his compassionate spirit. Wayne\u0027s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him."
