Philip Tivnan

Age - 70

Philip G. Tivnan, 70, of Breinigsville, PA, formerly of Asbury, N. J. , and Drogheda, Ireland, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Twp. , PA. He was the husband of Patricia A. (Marshall) Tivnan. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June 2024. Born in Monaghan, Ireland, he was a son of the late Gerald and Georgina (Shields) Tivnan. Philip studied in Templemore Garda College, and at UMDNJ. He had been a member of An Garda Siochana (Irish Policeman) in Ireland for over 30 years, where he served on a Special Protection Unit for former Irish Prime Minister, Charlie Haughey, and on 3 American Presidents as well as Pope John Paul II, on their visits to Ireland. He retired in 2004 and came to America 2 years later. He spent many years in the Healthcare field, including Visiting Homemakers of NJ, Warren Hospital, where he worked as a Nursing Assistant, Senator Garrett W Hagedorn Psychiatric Hospital in Glen Gardner, NJ, and as a Supervisor in Hunterdon Developmental Center, retiring in 2018. He was a rugby player and a huge fan of the sport, as well as West Bromich Albion Soccer Club in England, but he was a very proud Irishman! Philip had a vivacious personality, sharp wit, and could light up a room. He loved travel, and having the 'craic', but family was Everything to him!! Survivors: Wife, Patricia; Sons: Marshall P. Tivnan of Breinigsville, Geoffrey J. Tivnan and his wife, Siobhain, of Drogheda, Ireland and their children, Taidgh, Fionn, Boann and Fiadh; Daughter: Jennifer L. Tivnan and her partner Daniel Romig of Bethlehem, and their children, Devin and Elan; Siblings: Collette Boone, Deirdre Mac Sharry, Gregory Tivnan, Albertus Tsang, Cecelia Tivnan and Muriel Tivnan-Johnson; Sisters-in-Law: Cathy Matos and her husband, Carlos, Debi Elliott and her husband Tom, Diane Long and her husband Ken. Philip was predeceased by Brothers-in-Law: Raymond, Edward and Kenneth Marshall. Step siblings include Jane and husband Bob Wright, Kate and husband Steven Spender, Margaret Jones, Nancy McMorrow and Tom Rudick, and Mike and his wife, Kathleen McMorrow. Joan L. Kokinda, 87, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2023 at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest Location. Born in Lykens, PA, on May 14, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Amor L. and Grace (Hand) Cunningham. She was the wife of James J. Kokinda, with whom she shared 64 years of marriage with. She was a graduate of Porter Township High School, Class of 1954. After graduation and marriage, she worked as the medical secretary of Dr. Masonheimer. But above all, Joan's top priority was being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother for her family. In her spare time, she loved golfing, playing cards, caring for her pets, and spending time in nature. In addition to her husband James, Joan is survived by her children, Timothy Kokinda (Cindy) of Darnestown, MD, Robin Robertson (William), of Breiningsville, PA, Jeffrey A. Kokinda (Christine) of Mertztown, PA, grandchildren, Hannah Kokinda, Kelly and Brooke Robertson, and Emily Kopp, great-grandchildren Grayson and Willow Kopp A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, November 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM, at St. Catharine of Siena R. James F. Miller, 90 passed away November 20, 2023, at his residence at the Whitehall Manor. Born in 1933, he was the son of the late Frank and Anna (Luettgen) Miller. He was the husband of the late Elaine Nanette Strauss, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage before her death in 2004. After his honorable service in the U. S. Army, James worked for many years at Hess's Department Store as their Vice President. He was a long time and active member of St. Catharine of Siena R. C. C. , Allentown, PA. In his spare time he proudly worked with LV Therapy Dogs. James is survived by his children, David J. Miller (Tracey), Gail L. Maschin, Diane K. Behler (Donald), grandson Ryan, sister-in-law Jean Kerrigan, and niece Linda Heffelfinger. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Douglas Maschin. Services will be held privately. Robert M. "Bob" Silvert, Jr. , 84, of Allentown, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2023, in the In-Patient Hospice Unit of LVHN. He was the husband of Susan (Bianco) Silvert. They celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary in October 2023. Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Ethel M. (Shelhamer) and Robert M. Silvert, Sr. Bob was a graduate of Allentown High School, Class of 1957, the US Naval Academy, Class of 1964 and the Naval Post Graduate School in 1971. He was a Commander with the U. S. Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an American Legion and VFW member. Anything relating to computers was of great interest to Bob. Survivors: Wife, Susan; Sons: Scott M. Silvert and Brian R. Silvert. Bob was predeceased by a brother Thomas C. Silvert and by a sister Diana E. Parsons. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Richard N. Doll, 100, formerly of Allentown, Pennsylvania went to his heavenly home on Friday, November 10, 2023, at Barclay Friends in West Chester, PA. He was born in Allentown, a son of the late Arthur L. and Gertrude M. (Bloch) Doll. Richard was the husband of the late Ingeborg U. (Tasler) Doll. They had been married for 73 years. Richard was employed as a salesman and manager for Owen Bastian Carpet Sales for 32 years before retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church in Allentown. Richard was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during World War II. He was the happiest when spending time with his family. He enjoyed baking and crossword puzzles. Richard and Inge also spent many happy times at the Saenger Bund Club with friends. Richard is survived by his son, Roland W. Doll and his wife Debbie; Granddaughters Lauren Doll and her fiance Jon Burke, Kristen Doll Adams and her husband Michael Adams; Great-granddaughters: Hailey and Remy Adams. He also has many relatives in Germany. He was predeceased by his younger siblings Carl Doll, Neal Doll, Jane Miller, Robert Doll, and Willard Doll. James Spang

Age - 80

James A. Spang, 80, of Whitehall passed away peacefully after a short bout of cancer on Sunday November 5th, 2023 at Lehigh Valley Hospital. His devoted daughter, Nicole, and his younger brother, Hugh, were by his side at the time of his passing. Born in Allentown on July 14th 1943, he was one of seven siblings born to the late Al and Rita Spang (O'Donnell). Jim graduated from Dieruff High School in 1961. That summer, he followed in his oldest brother Daniel's footsteps and joined the United States Navy. He became an Aviation Machinist Mate stationed mostly in Kingsville, Texas. While in the service, he often travelled with friends to surrounding states, including to New Orleans, La where he fell in love with jazz music and started an impressive record collection. Jim was the husband of the late Michele Ann Spang (Kochenash) with whom he shared 50 years of marriage until her passing on November 25th, 2016. They met as kids at Riverfront Park and their families grew up together in the Sixth Ward of Allentown. Jim proudly worked at the Bethlehem Steel for over 30 years. After retiring in 1995, he worked for ten years at B. Braun Medical in Bethlehem as a medical courier. However, his favorite job was then with Michael Thomas Floral where he loved making everyone's day by delivering flowers. He was the loving father to Nicole and son in law, Jerome Maiatico of Wayne, Pa and the best Pop Pop to his "Big Buddy" Nick and his "Little Buddy" Nathan. He loved the game of golf and enjoyed playing with the Bethlehem Hackers golf league for 40 years. He enjoyed playing in scramble tournaments with family members, friends and especially his best friend, Bill Wallitsch. He was a member for many years of the Mercantile Club in Emmaus and the Hogan's Social Club in Allentown. Jim spent most weekends driving to Wayne to visit and watch his grandsons play sports. He was Nick and Nate's biggest fan. Preceded in death by his wife Michele, his brothers Daniel (Linda) of Whitehall, and Thomas (Patricia) of The Villages, Fl. Survivors: Daughter, Nicole Spang Maiatico wife of Jerome and two grandsons, Nicholas James and Nathan Louis. Siblings Joseph (Christine) of Bethlehem, Pa, Hugh of Lake Placid Fl. , Mary Jane Spang Orlando (Ed) of Allentown, Pa. , Buddy (Bobbi) of East Stroudsburg, Pa. Sisters in law Elizabeth Nomie (George) and Mary Green (Steve) both of Macungie, Pa. Many lifelong friends and cousins, 13 nieces and nephews and close family friend of him and Michele; Nicole's Godmother, Charmaine "Cookie" Wallitsch of Allentown, Pa.
