Dr. Keith J. Abercrombie of Overland Park, KS passed away peacefully at the age of 81 following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Keith was born on November 28, 1941, in Kansas City, KS. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred L. Watson; stepfather, Wilton W. Watson; and brother, Everett Abercrombie. He is survived by his daughter, Ann Abercrombie (Genny Nicholas) of Kansas City, MO; his nephews, Allen, James and John Abercrombie; his aunt, Doris Wilson; and many cousins. Keith graduated from Bishop Ward High School in 1959, serving as class President and earning numerous scholastic honors and athletic letters in football and baseball. He attended the University of Kansas and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He played baseball at KU as their catcher, sporting a team leading . 345 batting average. He also played baseball in the Ban Johnson league for several years. After graduating from KU in 1963, Keith then went on to attend medical school at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, graduating in 1967. He was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society. He served his internship at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. He then completed a one-year General Surgery residency at UCLA. He returned to the University of Kansas School of Medicine where he completed a residency in Urology. He was a member of the Naval Reserves. He enjoyed a successful Urology practice in Kansas City for over 40 years. He also traveled weekly to surrounding areas in Missouri for many years, offering specialized Urology care to underserved communities. He was a long-time member of Indian Hills Country Club. Throughout his lifetime, Keith enjoyed many sports, particularly golf, as a competitive athlete and spectator. He also loved to travel and was fortunate to see many beautiful places throughout the world with family and many friends. He was an avid card player, whether it was canasta, poker, gin rummy or bridge. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and his many long-time friends. Keith's family attended a private funeral mass and burial. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's and Dementia Research at the University of Kansas Alzheimer's Disease Research Center.
