Kaylee Butler, a beautiful pure soul, brought warmth and light into our lives every day. On Friday, October 6, 2023, at the age of 28, Kaylee peacefully passed away at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, TN. While her physical presence may be gone, her spirit will forever shine in our hearts. Kaylee was a true gift to this world. Despite the challenges she faced, she possessed an extraordinary ability to brighten the lives of everyone she encountered. Her infectious laughter and radiant smile were constant reminders of the joy that could be found in even the simplest moments of life. Kaylee's impact reached far and wide, touching the hearts of her beloved family and friends. Each one held a special place in her heart, and she, in theirs. Her unconditional love knew no bounds, and the bonds she formed were unbreakable. One of Kaylee's great joys in life was music. She had an innate connection to the melodies that moved her soul, often clapping along in delight. Her passion for music was a testament to her vibrant and expressive spirit. Kaylee had a simple yet profound love for her favorite meal: chicken paired with a refreshing glass of milk. It was a comforting ritual that brought her joy, and it became a cherished part of her daily routine. Mr. Douglas Roy "Doug" Sanders, age 85, of Barnesville, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at his home. Doug was born on Saturday, October 21, 1939, in Massachusetts to the late Ralph Sanders. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Little Charles. Doug was a devout Christian who loved the Lord and going to church. He enjoyed doing yardwork and going fishing. He served his country in the United States Army. Doug is survived by his loving wife of 11 years, Delores Sanders; children and their spouses, Sandy Marie Long (Chris), Charles Sanders (April); grandchildren, Brittney Milam (Josh), Cameron Sanders; step-grandchildren, Coral Ashley Beverley, Steven Sims, Jr. , Courtney Kaitlin Nordan, Chase Hunter Sims, Chloe Beverley, Luna Elyse Rios, Autumn Raine Rios, Kenneth Allen Nordan; step-children, Steven Mark Sims, Rhonda Susan Collins (SFC William Marshall Collins). A Funeral Service for Mr. Doug Sanders will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023, at 11:00 A. M. at the Barnesville Church of Christ with Pastor Bryan Romine and Pastor Bill Bonner officiating. Billy Bradley Campbell, age 86 of Barnesville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at Brightmoor Hospice. Billy was born in Eton, Georgia on March 9, 1937. His parents, William Jasper Campbell and Myrtle Beavers Campbell preceded him in death. In addition to his parents, his two brother and two sisters also precede him in death. Billy graduated from Murray County High School in 1956. He then served in the United States Army from 1960 until 1966. He met the love of his life, Marcelle Stallings Campbell, while working in Atlanta. Billy worked for Georgia Power for 10 years, became an insurance agent for Life of Virginia and then retired from Lamar County Emergency Management Agency as the Director. He was a hard worker who loved his family and being outdoors hunting, fishing and gardening. Billy was a member of Milner Baptist Church and a member of Masonic Lodge #88. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marcelle Stallings Campbell; daughters, Michelle Campbell of McDonough, Georgia and Lauren Griffin (Brian) of Carrolton, Georgia; three grandchildren, Leah Meeler (Hunter) of Lafayette, Georgia, Brad Griffin (Jayme) of Carrolton, Georgia, Macy Griffin of Carrollton, Georgia; four great grandchildren, Brooklyn Olmstead, Aubree Olmstead, Brayden Olmstead, Ryder Griffin all of Carrollton, Georgia; three brothers, Jim Campbell of Ft. Worth, Texas, Wallace Campbell (Vivian) of Dalton, Georgia, Donnie Campbell of Dalton, Georgia and Bill Campbell of Knoxville, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Margaret Moseley of Stockbridge, Georgia; special friends, Becky and David Martin; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Born on July 27, 1937, to the late Roy Johnston and Lois Davis Johnston, Carrie's journey through life was marked by resilience, familial devotion, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of God's creation. Growing up in the vicinity of the Cumberland Gap, Carrie's childhood was shaped by the rugged mountains and the indomitable spirit of the coal mining community in which her father worked. Alongside her two brothers, Davis Johnston and Samuel Johnston, Carrie developed an enduring love for the natural world that surrounded her, fostering in her a profound gratitude for the wonders of God's handiwork. Carrie pursued education with determination, ultimately earning an associates degree—a testament to her commitment to personal growth and learning. In the course of her life, she found and married the love of her life, Charles L. Seale. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising three children: Karen (Lester) Meehleder, Leland (Julie) Seale, and Jimmy Seale. Carrie was an active and vibrant soul, her mind kept sharp by the challenge of puzzle books and the joy of reading—all while savoring a cup of coffee, her constant companion. Her creative spirit found expression in the intricate art of crochet, where she became a gifted enthusiast, crafting pieces of beauty that will be treasured by her family for generations to come. Her memory lives on in the hearts of her children: Karen, Leland, and Jimmy; grandchildren: Jonathon Seale and Matthew (Erica) Meehleder; and great-grandchildren: Jonathon Seale, Brynleigh Seale, Van Meehleder, and Coen Meehleder. Mrs. Druella (Dru) Maye Baker Claiborne, 95, passed away at Poplar Estates, Columbia, Tn. on November 17, 2023. Born November, 11, 1928 in Rock Island, Tn to the late James Ausker Baker and the late Ather Lola McGiboney Baker, she was the sixth of eight children. She was married for 63 years to the late Leslie Ernest Claiborne, marrying on November 8, 1947. Services will be held Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. Visitation will begin at 10:00 with services at Noon. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens. Services will be conducted by family members. Mrs. Claiborne graduated from McMinnville Central High School in 1945 at age 16, where she was on the basketball team. She continued her education taking clerical courses at the Watkins Business Institute Night School. She was a homemaker. She also worked part-time selling Avon and Sarah Coventry jewelry, worked as a hostess at Holiday Inn and James K Polk Motels, the Drug Center and as a Welcome Wagon representative. She attended First United Methodist Church and later Riverside United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included: Wagon Wheelers square dancing, line dancing, clogging, bowling, flower gardening, swimming, and travel. She was a Girl Scout Troup 350 leader and supported her children in their sports, band and church activities. Survivors include daughters: Peggy (Tommy) McEwen and Dawn (Bill) Yelverton, both of Columbia. Grandchildren: Kami (Billy) Thurman (Santa Fe), Neil (Elizabeth) Webb (Brentwood), Danielle Claiborne (Oregon). Step-grandchildren: Chris (Mandy) McEwen (Santa Fe) and Kristie (Brandon) Sullivan (Fairview). Great grandchildren: Hayley Thurman, Billy Thurman, III, Brady Thurman, Maddox Webb, Tyler Webb, Addison Webb and several step great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Claiborne was predeceased by her sons: Douglas Claiborne, Steven Claiborne and Gregory Claiborne. She was also predeceased by all of her siblings: Grady (Velma) Baker, Johnnie (Helen) Baker, Malchus (Vera) Baker, Josie (Fulton) Oliver, Ivena (Houston) Hitchcock, Clifton Baker and infant sister. The family would like to express our many thanks and appreciation for the care she received from the dedicated staff of Poplar Estates. Born on November 19, 1963, to the late Wilburn Harper Cantrell and Betty Grooms Cantrell, Melissa leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Melissa's warmth and love extended to her seven children: Laurie (Robert) Edwards, Marvin Thomson, Tina Parson, Misty Hendrix, Michael Hendrix, Stephen Hendrix, and Cobey (Kristin) Hendrix. Additionally, she leaves behind 17 grandchildren, a testament to the love and joy she brought to her expanding family. Melissa is survived by her siblings, Steve Cantrell, Stanley Cantrell, and Vicki Calvert. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Glenda Parson and Sherry Johnson, but she leaves behind a wealth of memories that will be forever cherished by those who knew her. Melissa found joy in simple pleasures, particularly her love for crime shows and her unwavering devotion to the TV series Supernatural, where the character Dean Winchester held a special place in her heart. She would eagerly watch every season multiple times, finding comfort and entertainment in the supernatural adventures. Above all, Melissa adored her family, and her home was always filled with love and laughter. Her absence leaves a void that will be deeply felt, and she will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and the love she showered upon those around her. Helga Emma Pierce, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, in her home surrounded by family. Born in Talheim, Schweinfurt, Germany on February 15, 1944, Helga was the daughter of the late Ludwig Seban and Paula Gerb Seban. As a young girl, she gracefully twirled as a gymnast, enchanting the arenas of the German Olympics with her determined presence. Helga's life was a tapestry of love and commitment. On September 13, 1962, she married the love of her life, John W. Pierce, during his military service, and together they cherished 62 beautiful years of marriage, raising a loving family. Helga was a woman of diverse talents and pursuits. After completing her education, she became a licensed cosmetologist, mastering the art of cutting hair. She later transitioned to roles in quality control and shipping at V. G. Reed & Sons, and in the Dietary Department at Signature Healthcare until her well-earned retirement. Known for her loving and compassionate nature, Helga had a heart for those in need, earning her a special place in the hearts of all who knew her. "To know her was to love her. " Her family was her pride and joy, and she leaves behind a legacy of warmth and devotion. Helga is survived by her beloved husband, John W. Pierce; her children: Angela Pierce, Tina (Jeff) Burke, Jerry (Karen) Pierce, and Amy (Tony) Pierce. Betty Jean Thurman, born on February 15, 1937, in Maury County, Tennessee, peacefully passed away on November 14, 2023, at NHC-Trotwood. She was the youngest of seven children born to the late William Benjamin Foster and Lucy Sutton Foster. There will be a visitation 4-8 p. m. Thursday, Nov. 16 at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. Funeral services will be 11 a. m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Bill Wagoner, minister of Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will be at Polk Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. A woman of deep faith, Betty was the last surviving charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbia. Her commitment to her Lord and her church family was steadfast. Betty's devotion to her faith shaped her character and touched the lives of those around her. Betty worked at local garment factories throughout the years and later in life studied to get her GED, after which she worked in customer service at United Cities Gas/Atmos. She enjoyed being with friends and family, taking care of her home and yard, singing, southern gospel music and dancing. When she was younger, she and her sisters, Dot and Bessie, formed a trio, with Dot accompanying the three on guitar. Her husband, Ralph, later gifted her with a guitar, which she was able to play without ever having any lessons. She also enjoyed dancing and often attended area dances with family and friends. Betty lived with her son and daughter-in-law her last five-plus years. Betty is survived by her loving son, Randy (Susan) Thurman, and her cherished grandchildren, Ben Thurman and Stephanie (Sarah Troutt) Thurman. She leaves behind great-grandchildren Jaxon Lynn, Jacob Lynn, Alexis (Haiden Musto) Whitfield, and Cameron Whitfield, as well as great-great-grandson Kai Musto. Betty will also be remembered by a host of nieces and nephews whom she adored and who loved and respected her. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband, Ralph Thurman, and her siblings, Lee Foster, Dorothy Ferguson Johnson, Louise Grissom, Bessie Clark, Raymond Foster, and Taylor Foster, and their spouses. Also preceding her was her great, long-time friend, Robert "Sonny" Galbreath. Pallbearers will be Ben Thurman, Jacob Lynn, Cameron Whitfield, Jaxon Lynn, Alby Woodard, and Haiden Musto, and junior pallbearer Kai Musto. Honorary pallbearers are the members of Trinity Lutheran Church. The family extends their deepest gratitude to her long-time sitter Samantha Harvill, and substitute sitter Christy Henson, and Betty's faithful visitor and friend Judy Brimeyer. The family is also very grateful for the compassionate care provided by hospice nurses Dillon and Melanie, and aid Brandy from Compassus Hospice, as well as the staff at NHC-Maury Regional.Show more
