Kaye attended the local elementary school and later Alexandria High School. As the youngest member of a large family, there was a lot of opportunity to play soccer and hockey. With the addition of the neighbouring kids there were always enough bodies to make up two teams and many fun games ensued. No manicured fields or fancy arenas or state of the art equipment were needed to enjoy these sports. As a result Kaye had ample practice time to hone his skills, especially in soccer. A quote from the AHS yearbook of 1951-52 states "Kaye Hay at five feet eleven inches, weight one hundred and fifty pounds, played offensive left end. An outstanding pass receiver and gained a lot of yardage with his smooth receptions. Excelled in place kicking. " The team was referred to as the AHS Rugby Football Team. Kaye joined the Lochiel soccer roster in 1947 playing one game in the Greenspoon Cup at the age of 12. He kicked the only goal in a 1-0 Lochiel win. He was instrumental in Lochiel's being the powerhouse during the 1950's and dominating the Glengarry Soccer League especially in the goal-scoring department. Lochiel won eleven Glengarry Championships in 1949,1950,1952 to 1959 consecutively and again in 1967. Also Lochiel won eleven League Championships and ten Greenspoon Cups. Kaye was a valuable member of each of these years. He was the league top scorer several times and was named the most valuable player in the play-offs in 1967 and in 1968. Winter found Kaye playing broomball, first with the Atlantic Hotel team then with a newly formed Lochiel Broomball Team. This team won several championships. Kaye was a member of the Glen Motel Bowling Team for about ten years, winning three or four times. In 1964 Kaye became involved in the "roaring game" of Curling. He started as a lead with each successive year moving up towards becoming the team skip. From 1964 to 1988 Kaye, as skip, and his team won twenty-one trophies. Four other years he was part of a trophy-winning team. He also won two Centre 26-Mixed Championships, one in 1978 and the other in the 90's. He skipped his team to victory in many outside club bonspiels in both the mixed and men's competitions. He was a member on five Quebec Challenge Teams, winning in Granby in 1986. The team won the cup twice more against Ottawa Clubs before losing to Lennoxville. Kaye continued farming until his retirement. He still maintains an interest in farming but on the hobby side now. He continues to golf several days of the week. Kaye has had an interesting, fun sporting career.

As a member of various church choirs and musical groups she shared her voice and acting skills with many a keen audience. In her later years, every church bell chorus was always accompanied. Alfred Vogel

Alfred Vogel

Age - 93

December 5, 2023

On December 3rd, , 2023, Alfred Vogel, at the age of 93, after a long and beautiful life, is now at home again with our mom. He was the beloved husband of Anne Marie (1937-2020) for 62 years! Loving father of Tony (Cyndy) Vogel, Anne (Bob) Donkers, Paul (Linda) Vogel, Ursula (Dan) Flipsen and Angela (late Doug) Fawcett. A proud grandpa to Jen (Mike), Dave (Ashley), Jamie (Hannah), Virginia (Chris), Shannon (Joey), Andy (Alyssa), Jakob (Stepanie), Crystal (Frank), Amber (Grant), Michaela (Darren), Angela (Tristan), Kristopher, Paige, Abby and Leah and 19 great- grandchildren with more to come. Alfred was predeceased by his parents, brothers and sisters. Alfred will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends. Our Dad was born in Goldach, Switzerland on June 11, 1930 to the late Rudolph and Bertha Vogel. He was the second youngest of 12 children. After finishing his schooling and working in the French part of Switzerland, Dad moved to Canada in 1953 with the intention of learning English and then going back home. He spent the next few years working across the country on dairy farms, bush camps and gold mines. Then settling in Southern Ontario as he found work on a tobacco farm. He met our Mom in 1956, they were married on July 5th, 1958 and as they say, the rest is history. Dad worked for Shavers poultry in Branchton, Ontario after which they were able to purchase their first farm in Paris, Ontario where they milked Brown Swiss Cows. In 1971, they moved their 4 children and Brown Swiss Cows to Williamstown, Ontario. Their family grew, A LOT, (see above) as did their love for Glengarry County. Dad would never hesitate to say that "the wise men always came from the East". They continued to milk their Brown Swiss but eventually realized that Holstein cows were the way to go. The heard expanded to 70 cows and always included a Jersey Cow, which kept our mom happy. While the cows and farm land were enough to raise a family, Dad always loved to learn and try new things. Over the years our farm would come to house numerous horses, sheep, beef, fallow deer, red deer, goats, pigs, rabbits, peacocks, and lots and lots of chickens. Oh, and a pet turkey, because what farm doesn't have one of those? Considering he grew up in a small village and studied business at school, he was very passionate about agriculture. He represented Glengarry Country as a member of soil and crop, Glengarry County Dairy farmers and Glengarry Federation of Agriculture. He loved to travel, meeting life long friends along the way. His door was always open and he was never happier then when he was sharing a schnapps or a sausage with family or friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Williamstown, on Tuesday, Dec 12, 2023 at 11 am. Rite of Committal will follow in the parish cemetery. A Celebration of his life to follow in the St Mary's Centre. If any one can not attend the Mass, please feel free to join the family at the Centre.
