Kay Mayes Cockerham, 71, of Elkin NC, passed away peacefully Friday, September 8, 2023. Kay was born November 10, 1951 to Edgar and Frances Mayes in Surry County, North Carolina. Her passing was proceeded by her father, mother , brother Tony Mayes and brother -in-law Ricky Martin. Kay had a unique sense of humor and her laugh would make anyone’s day. She also was an avid gardener and was known by family and friends for her green thumb. She also had a huge heart for animals. Dogs, cats, birds, horses, cows and in her later years, she was notorious for feeding the squirrels and raccoons. Kay was a believer in Christ. Her world revolved around her children and her granddaughter. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Casstevens (Dale); sons Mitchell Cockerham and Matthew Cockerham (Cameron), granddaughter Reid Cockerham, sisters Nancy Golding (Roger) and Ann Martin, nieces Tammy Stacks (Tim), Tabitha Mallory (Chris) and nephew Dale Golding (Melissa), her great nieces and great-great nieces and great -great nephews that all loved her dearly. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, September 11, 2023 in the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Avery Branch officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson is serving the Cockerham family. Rennie Lee Turley, age 67, of Traphill passed away on Sunday, December 03, 2023 at Chatham Nursing & Rehab in Elkin. Rennie was born August 22, 1956 in Mecklenburg County to Carol Cannon Turley and Burton Laws. Rennie retired from LP in 2018 after 42 years of service. Rennie never missed a day of work in 40 years of service. He was a dedicated and loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Rennie was strong in his faith and dedication to God and our Savior Jesus Christ and is of the Methodist faith. He enjoyed motorcycles, fishing, and was enchanted by computers and technology. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his adoptive father, Daythel Turley, a brother, Thomas Buton Laws Jr. and a brother-in-law, Joe Curry. Survivors include: his wife of 49 years, Kattie Ray Curry Turley, of Traphill, one daughter, Renee Melara, one son, Zachariah Turley, and two grandsons, Jessen Melara (Ashton) and Damien Brown. He is also survived by six sisters: Teresa Camfield (Andy), Louisville, KY; Lexie Moore (Owen) Murray, KY; Liddia Seacrist (Neal), Myrtle Beach, SC. ; Mary Wells (Keith), Murray, KY. ; Joan Laws Osborne, Boomer, NC. Sarah Laws, Boomer, NC. Four brothers: Scott Carpenter (Martha) Austin, TX. , Steve Turley (Deanne) Springfield, MO. , Charles Turley, Murray, KY. , Homer (Jim) Turley, AL. Three sisters-in-law, Brenda Curry, Henrietta Curry, and Vickie Curry, Thurmond, NC. Two brothers-in-law, Butch Curry, Elkin, NC. and Donald Curry (Anne) Thurmond, NC. Multiple nieces and nephews and multiple great nieces and nephews, lifelong friend, Nick McClure and his wife Debbie. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, December 09, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel, with Pastor StephenTurley officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm, one hour prior to service at Elkin Funeral Service.
