Kay Cockerham Obituary

Kay Mayes Cockerham, 71, of Elkin NC, passed away peacefully Friday, September 8, 2023. Kay was born November 10, 1951 to Edgar and Frances Mayes in Surry County, North Carolina. Her passing was proceeded by her father, mother , brother Tony Mayes and brother -in-law Ricky Martin. Kay had a unique sense of humor and her laugh would make anyone’s day. She also was an avid gardener and was known by family and friends for her green thumb. She also had a huge heart for animals. Dogs, cats, birds, horses, cows and in her later years, she was notorious for feeding the squirrels and raccoons. Kay was a believer in Christ. Her world revolved around her children and her granddaughter. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Casstevens (Dale); sons Mitchell Cockerham and Matthew Cockerham (Cameron), granddaughter Reid Cockerham, sisters Nancy Golding (Roger) and Ann Martin, nieces Tammy Stacks (Tim), Tabitha Mallory (Chris) and nephew Dale Golding (Melissa), her great nieces and great-great nieces and great -great nephews that all loved her dearly. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, September 11, 2023 in the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Avery Branch officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson is serving the Cockerham family.
