Kathy L. Stephens, age 68, of Sarahsville, Ohio, died Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. She was born August 10, 1955, in Marietta, daughter of the late Jack Lester Clark and the late Betty Crum Frazier. Kathy attended Shenandoah High School and took classes at Muskingum Area Technical College. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Green Valley Church of Christ. Kathy enjoyed making blankets and making many different kinds of crafts. She was devoted to her family and was a wonderful mother. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Patty. Surviving are her husband, James M. "Michael" Stephens, whom she married October 24, 1972; four children, Kristi Huffman of Dexter City, Pepper Stephens of Michigan, Jamie Stephens of Sarahsville, and Vicky Stephens of Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; her siblings, Jack Clark, Pam Sinfield, Michael Frazier, Stephen Clark, Sonny Clark, Shannon Carpenter, and Candy Beanan; her father-and-mother-in-law, James and Patty Stephens of Caldwell; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gerald L. Shafer, age 88, of Sarahsville, Ohio, died Sunday, November 26, 2023, at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville. He was born December 10, 1934, in Canton, son of the late Ottis O. and Thelma M. Robinson Shafer. He was a 1953 graduate of Sarahsville High School and took a machinist course while living in Youngstown. Gerald retired as vice-president of Cambridge Tool and Dye following 38 years of service. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Caldwell, where he formerly served as a deacon and usher, and constructed the scenery for the church's "A Journey to Bethlehem". He also built five dollhouses with furnishings and he enjoyed building grandfather and mantel clocks and muzzle loaders. He was a person who could build or fix anything. Gerald loved fishing, rabbit hunting, painting and photography. He was devoted to his family. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Waneta Myers; and one brother, Delman Shafer. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn L. Goodwill Shafer, whom he married December 19, 1953; his children, Dennis L. (Marilyn) Shafer of Caldwell, Jennifer F. (Michael) Mann of Tuscarawas, Bryon N. (Dianne) Shafer of Chagrin Falls; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Leah Paulette Bates of North Canton; and several nieces and nephews. Darrell E. Moore, age 86, of Sarahsville, Ohio, died Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at his home. He was born February 2, 1937, in Mt. Ephraim, son of the late Clarence and Opal Bates Moore. Darrell was a 1954 graduate of Sarahsville High School. He retired as a foreman from the Mahle Corporation following 44 years of service and he owned and operated a logging business with his brother-in-law, William Franklin, from 1967-1974. He was a member of the Noble Local School Board for 8 years and during the time when the new elementary school was built, and he was a member of the Bates Hill Church of Christ. Darrell loved being outdoors. He was an avid golfer, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping. He also enjoyed caring for his lawn. He loved watching Ohio sports teams on TV. He was devoted to his family and loved watching his grandchildren in their activities. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Anita Louise Lucas Moore, whom he married June 5, 1959, and who died December 15, 2000; one daughter, Cheryl Ann Moore; two great-grandsons, Bradyn Edward and Boone Charles McKee; and two brothers, Robert L. Moore and Donald C. Moore. Surviving are his children, Connie L. (Kevin) Brown of Sarahsville, Jennie L. (Edward W. ) McKee of Caldwell, and Jimmie L. (Julie) Moore of Sarahsville; 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Linda (William) Frankin of Sarahsville; one brother, Ronald D. (Donna) Moore of Caldwell; 2 sisters-in-law, Gara Moore of Cambridge and Marcia (Jeff) Carpenter of Sarahsville; brother-in-law, David (Pam) Lucas of Barnesville; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Leo J. Michel, age 69 of Sarahsville, died Sunday, October 29, 2023, at his home. He was born September 22, 1954, in Marietta, son of the late Roger L. and Cleota Miller Michel. Leo was a 1973 graduate of Caldwell High School. Following graduation, he built industrial silos for 26 years and has been a bus driver for Noble Local Schools for the past 22 years. Leo was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Caldwell; He was an avid fan of Shenandoah Zeps athletics where was an assistant wrestling coach for many years. He drove bus for the Shenandoah football, wrestling and volleyball teams. He was an avid Ohio State football fan and enjoyed NASCAR especially Martin Truex, Jr. Leo was devoted to his family. Surviving are his wife, LuAnn Archer Michel, whom he married October 27, 1984; his sons, Lucas Joseph (Erica) Michel of Caldwell and Logan Jacob Michel of Pleasant City; his granddaughter, Kendal Early of Caldwell; his siblings, Sandy (Jack) Archer of Sarahsville, Paula (Dan) Niswonger of Caldwell, Chris (Mary) Michel of Summerfield, Tammy (Karl) Seebach and Shelly (Dave) Leasure all of Caldwell; Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and all of his kids that he drove over the years. Gary Willard Feldner age 76, of Sarahsville, OH passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022 surrounded by his loving family at the Grant Medical Center in Columbus, OH. He was born September 21, 1945 in East Union, OH a son of the late Henry B. and Mary Opal Love Feldner. He served in the National Guard for six years. He retired following 25 years of service as a foreman for the Village of Caldwell. He enjoyed fishing, playing country music, and working with the Amish. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister Betty Lou Bates; 4 brothers Paul Alphonse Feldner, Dale Edward Feldner, Charles Feldner, and John Feldner. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Ruthann Hardesty Feldner, whom he married July 14, 1984; daughter Angela (Jason) Anderson of Ava; grandchildren Chrissy (Luke) Willison, Zachary Anderson, Erica (Austin Suggett) Anderson, Jordan Anderson, and Casey Anderson; great-grandchildren Austin Anderson, Arya King, Braxtyn Anderson, Bexley Grace Anderson, Benton Anderson, Alphonse Suggett, Mila Anderson, Liam Willison, Astella Anderson, and a baby girl Violla Sue-Ann expected shortly; brother Donnie Feldner of Jacksonville, FL; sister-in-law Sally Hardesty Clark. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and many friends. Lucy Jane Wheeler Bates, age 87, of Sarahsville, OH passed away unexpectedly Monday, October 11, 2021 at Southeastern Med in Cambridge, OH. She was born February 24, 1934 in Noble County, OH a daughter of the late Wilbur and Grace Drake Wheeler. She was a graduate of Sarahsville High School, Wittenberg University, and a member of their Delta Zeta Sorority. She spent her life educating the youth and assisting anyone she could in her community. She was a retired teacher having taught at the Shenandoah Schools for many years. Following retirement, she went on to serve as a substitute teacher at Caldwell Schools and was employed at GMN Tri-County, helping many to secure jobs. She served for many years on the Noble Local School Board and was currently a board member for the Mid-East Career and Technology Centers. She was honored as Person of the Year by the Daily Jeffersonian. She was a member of the Noble Local Retired Teachers, a Captain of the Shenandoah Athletic Boosters, and the Sarahsville Alumni Committee. Lucy Jane will always be remembered for her devotion to her faith having been a lifetime member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Pleasant City and President of its Ladies Aid Society. She was a dedicated grandmother and could be found at her grandchildren's activities including sports, school, and 4-H. In her later years, she enjoyed spending her free time working crossword puzzles, talking to her many friends on the telephone, and watching her birds. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a daughter Kathy Leigh (Marc) Thomas; grandson Keith Evan Presnell; great-granddaughter Samantha Ann Thomas; brothers Raymond Kyle (Maxine) Wheeler and Ladd (Marie) Wheeler; sister Olive Swetz. Those left to cherish her memory are 2 daughters Kristy Presnell of Pleasant City, OH and Konny (Robert) Pickenpaugh of Caldwell; grandchildren Jerad (Robbie) Thomas, Kurt (Jessi) Thomas, Karly Thomas, Kirstyn Pickenpaugh, Josey Pickenpaugh, and Maggie Presnell; great-grandchildren Mack, Kayla, Emmy, Lindy, and Sophie. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, friends, and many students whose lives she impacted.
