Kathleen Hughes of Mahanoy City passed away Sunday September 10th at Schuylkill Center in Pottsville. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Anna (Reing) Long and a brother Robert Long. She is survived by a sister Mary Lou Rushanan of Frackville, two sons Richard Hughes and his wife Angela of Barnesville and John Hughes of Frackville, grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews . Catherine Mary Sema, age 86, of Mahanoy City, passed away peacefully Monday morning at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born at the former Locust Mountain Hospital she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. & Catherine (Derrish) Moore. She was a 1955 graduate of Mahanoy City High School and a 1958 graduate of St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Trenton NJ and worked as a nurse for 40 years. She was a lifelong member of St. Teresa of Calcutta Church in Mahanoy City and the Woman's Guild of the Church. She was a member of the Catholic Nurses Association. Catherine was an avid Phillies fan. She took pride in caring for her home and family. Her favorite pastimes were reading and baking especially her mother's pumpkin pie. She is survived by her husband of 64 years Michael. Children: Kathleen Wettstein, Michael Sema and his wife Tammy and Judith Illingworth and her husband John, a brother Thomas J. Moore a niece Danielle M. Moore and 8 grandchildren , 3 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews through marriage. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated by the Rev. Kevin P. Gallagher on Thursday morning at 11 AM from St. Teresa of Calcutta Church. Interment will follow at Sky View Memorial Park in Hometown. Friends may call at the church on Thursday morning beginning at 9:30 AM. Geraldine R. "Gerry" Zelasny, age 90, of Mahanoy City, died Friday at her home. Born in Mahanoy City, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Kelly) Fogarty. She attended area schools and was a member of St. Teresa of Calcutta Church in Mahanoy City. She along with her husband owned and operated Cotton's Tavern formerly in Mahanoy City. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank and a son Michael as well as several brothers and sisters. She is survived by two daughters Diane Gallagher and her husband Kenneth of Mahanoy City, Karen Uhrie of Gilberton and a son Frank of Allentown, 3 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Dolores I. D'Angelo, age 92, of Mahanoy City, passed away Saturday at Shenandoah Senior Living Community. Born in Mahanoy City she was the daughter of the late Santos & Anna (Leskosky) Rodriguez. She was a 1949 graduate of Mahanoy City High School and was a member of St. Teresa of Calcutta Church in Mahanoy City. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph in 2011, a brother Joseph and an infant sister Ramona. She is survived by 2 sons Joseph and his wife Robin of Virginia and Robert at home, 3 daughters JoAnn Thomas and her husband James of Mahanoy City, Diane D'Angelo of Mahanoy City and Denise Baddick and her husband Dr. Peter Baddick of W. It is with heavy hearts we announce on June 26, 2023, Bonnie Morgan has passed away. Born at the former Ashland State Hospital she was the daughter of the late John J. & Helen (McDonnell) Shilpetski II. She was a graduate of Mt. Carmel High School and also Mc Cann's in massage therapy. She had been employed by the Ashland Shirt Company and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church formerly in Mahanoy City. Bonnie loved her family and friends, Halloween and crafting. So many families will miss her costumes, grand march and haunted woods. If there was something to craft, knit, paint or sew, she would do it. And usually it was a gift for someone else. Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were a daughter Tracey and a brother John J. "Jack" Shilpetski III. Bonnie is survived by her spouse Karen, a daughter Amy and her husband Brian of MN, brothers and sisters in law William and David Morgan, Faith Morgan, Lynne Irvin and Hope Mroczka as well as grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Richard Peter Scherer, age 69, of Mahanoy City, died on Sunday morning. Born at the Ashland Hospital on July 9, 1953, he was the son of the late Charles "Pinky" Scherer and Eleanor Hansbury Scherer of Mahanoy Plane. He was a 1971 graduate of Mahanoy Area High School and the Schuylkill County Vocational Technical School. He was employed in sales for various agencies, the most recent being Baltimore Life Insurance. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Mahanoy City, and served as a trustee. He enjoyed volunteering his time for church fundraisers and social events. Richard devoted his time to the Mahanoy Area School Board for several years. He also played an integral role with the Mahanoy Area Alumni Association. You could always find Richard and his late wife, Janet, attending their daughters' school events. It was their greatest joy and they served on many of the Mahanoy Area Boosters Organizations together. Richard loved spending each summer in Ocean City, New Jersey with his family. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Janet E. Scherer and a brother Charles Scherer. Richard is survived by two daughters, Amy Scherer of Elizabethtown and Laurie Scherer of Hummelstown; a sister Kathleen Lawrence and her husband James of Lancaster; a brother Michael Scherer and his wife Christine of Lancaster; a sister Margaret Ellen Aldahonda and her husband Carlos of Lancaster; a brother Kevin Scherer of Egg Harbor Township, NJ; a sister-in-law Maggie Scherer of Frackville, his best friends Keith and Debbie Northey of Mahanoy City; a mother-in-law Joan E. Brady of Mahanoy City; a sister-in-law Joan K. Brady of Pottsville; a brother-in-law John Brady and his wife Theresa of Cary, N. C. ; many cherished nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Bailey. Richard's laughter was everybody else's medicine. He will be always be remembered for his humor, smile and contagious laugh. He was also an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan. Please celebrate Rich with a loud, "E-A-G-L-E-S, Eagles!" Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral on Saturday morning at 11 AM from the First United Methodist Church in Mahanoy City.
