Katherine Ann Hall, 73, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 in Richmond VA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey Gordon Hall, Sr. and Doris Blankenship Hall; and brother, Harvey Gordon Hall, Jr. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Mae Hall; brothers, James Lee Hall and Gordon Scott Boyd (Tina); 7 nephews and nieces, Ashley Boyd, Bailey Boyd, Tasha Robinson (James), Brittney Grimm, Chris Grimm, Brandon Grimm and Ricky Grimm. Katherine loved her family and dedicated her life to ensuring they were all taken care of. She was a collector of figurines, blankets and anything of the Native American Culture and loved to share them with others. Katherine was a notorious baker who enjoyed making birthday cakes for her family. She once made a birthday cake that resembled a hamburger for her sister Dorothy. Movie nights with family and watching her favorite television programs were her favorite past time activities. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Bliley's 8510 Staples Mill Road from 6 to 8 pm. Robert Early Hale passed away peacefully on December 8, 2023, at the age of 93 in Richmond, VA. Bob was born in Bluefield, WV, on October 28, 1930. He attended Virginia Tech, took a break from school to serve in the Air Force during the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant, and then graduated from Virginia Tech in 1957. After moving to Richmond, Bob married Dorothy "Dot" Scarborough Parker in 1962, began a career in banking, and together with Dorothy raised two sons. When a city manager position opened up with People's Bank in Henderson, NC, the family moved and lived there for 28 happy years. He was deeply involved in civic leadership there and served the city well. One of Bob's greatest joys was piloting his Cessna 182 over Virginia and the Carolinas, taking as much pleasure in avoiding traffic as he did in flying. Bob and Dorothy retired to Smith Mountain Lake and enjoyed many years of fun living on the lake with long walks, boat outings, and cocktail parties. A second retirement move took the couple back to Richmond to be closer to family and friends. 15 years ago, they moved into the home of their younger son Parker and his wife Sarah and their two sons. This multigenerational home was a place of great love and support for all. Bob's two sisters, Mary and Betty, were always a source of great joy for him; his niece and nephews and their many children made for a full family life with joyous gatherings and wedding celebrations. Bob was an avid outdoorsman who loved bird hunting and trout fishing with his nephews and sons and dogs, playing tennis, boating on Smith Mountain Lake, and reading books about history and World War II. Most of all, Bob loved a good laugh, a good drink, and good food with friends and family. In recent years, Bob's weekly Bible study group and weekly breakfast meet ups have been a great comfort. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel J. and Hilda W. Hale; his wife, Dorothy "Dot" Hale; his sister, Hilda "Betty" Hale Lilly and her husband, Philip T. Lilly Jr. ; and his brother-in-law, Dr. Gordon E. Madge. He is survived by his sister, Mary Hale Madge; sons, John Claytor Hale (Elizabeth) and Alexander Parker Hale (Sarah); and grandsons, Alexander McGiffert Hale, Aaron Ferguson Hale, Oliver Parker Hale, and Ethan Norfleet Hale; as well his niece and nephews. The family especially would like to thank caregiver-friends Kim Brewer and Priscilla Morrison as well as his friends at McLean's Restaurant. An intimate graveside service will be held at 2 p. m. George Clair

St. Clair, George Walker, known by many as "Tex", the husband of the late M. Carol Young St. Clair, passed on December 3, 2023, after residing in his mortal state on this earth at his home in Randolph Square in Goochland County, Virginia. He was blessed with good health, good fortune, and good friends. He was born in Bluefield, West Virginia on June 1, 1931 to Katherine Bell St. Clair and Thomas Henry Settle, who preceded him in death. He was predeceased by son, Thomas Houston St. Clair; and his sister, Roslyn St. Clair Hawkinson. He is survived his daughter, Leigh Gayle St. Clair; and his grandchildren, Makayla Nielsen, Thomas Jr. , Tyler and Katherine St. Clair; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Southwest Virginian Presbyterian, he was proud of his Scottish heritage. His family moved into the Richmond area in 1941. He attended St. Christopher's School in Richmond and Christchurch Episcopal School in Tappahannock, Virginia, graduating in 1949. He played basketball, manager of the football team, was the founder of the Tides and was into dancing to bebop music. Ella Fitzgerald's Lemon Drop "de lu de le lop um um drop" was one of his favorites. He then attended Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia where he was President of Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) House which was the second home to several of his VMI Keydets gentlemen associates. Tex graduated from W&L in 1953. After graduation from W&L, Tex entered the Navy in fall of 1953 and was on active duty until 1956 serving on the USS Bottineau and the USS Hawkins. He remained in the reserves after active duty until leaving the Navy in 1962. After the Navy, he began his carrier in the banking industry including obtaining his graduation from the Stoner Graduate School of Banking from Rutgers University in 1968. He worked at First & Merchants from 1957 until 1977 retiring from the bank as Senior Vice President of Commercial Banking. He then became Owner and President of Janosko Food Equipment Corporation until he sold the business in 2019. Tex was a member of the Dixie Downhillers that would take ski trips to Snowshoe, Country Club of Virginia, The Westwood Club, the Tennis Patrons Association, Historic Richmond Foundation and First Presbyterian Church. He played tennis and was a very avid racquetball and handball player. Other details of his life can be found in the Almanac of Great Procrastinators. He enjoyed living in Richmond including residences in Windsor Farms, Cherokee Road on the James River and Randolph Square, both the East and West. Tex loved to go on vacations. Not big on cruises though. He regularly vacationed in Mexico, Puerto Rico and Virginia Beach. He missed traveling with his wife Carol after she passed in 2018, after a long fight with cancer. He loved watching sports on television but especially golf. It was a must to watch all the Majors. He was a true Scotsman, enjoying "Tea Time" but only after 5 p. m. And so, farewell to all. Our losses have been high, but our gains are worth the try to breach the strongest wall. And if along the way we fall, there are no regrets unless we did not try at all. Now my friend, continue on your journey's way until we meet again and hear the pipers play. May there never be a passing day without a dream of Usquebaugh (The First Name in Scotch Whisky). Mary Lloyd

Mary Wyatt Lloyd, 96, passed away on December 6, 2023. Daughter of the late Rosser Samuel Wyatt and Annie Laurie Kandle Wyatt, she was born "down the country" in Middlesex County, Virginia, in 1927, graduating from Saluda High School in 1946. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, John Carter Lloyd; her daughter, Rebecca Wyatt Lloyd; her beloved brothers and sisters, Clifton Wyatt, Gladys Wyatt LeCompte, Addie Wyatt Simmons, Theadis Wyatt Tinsley, Margarette Wyatt Howell, Robert Henry Wyatt, John Wyatt, Wilbur "Teenie" Wyatt and Walter Wyatt; as well as a number of her nieces and nephews, including recently Barbara LeCompte Nelson. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Lloyd Caddell (Bobby), of Durham, N. C. ; and her daughter-in-law, Barbara Trevvett Lloyd, of Glen Allen, Va. "Aunt Mary" leaves behind nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who meant so much to her; long-time neighbors in Glen Allen, where she lived for nearly six decades; life-long friends and classmates; and new friends, associates, and caregivers at Vitality Living West End Richmond, where she lived for nine years. Mary traveled to many U. S. states, and to Argentina, China, Russia, Israel, Egypt, South Africa, England, France, and Germany, among others, but was always happy to come home to see "Old Glory" flying, considering the U. S. the "most beautiful country in the world" and Virginia the "most beautiful state in our country. " Following memberships at Greenwood United Methodist Church and Staples Mill Road Baptist Church, Mary was an early member of Faith Landmark Ministries. Most important to her, she used her time and talents to serve her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her family will receive friends at 11 a. m. on Friday, December 15, at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Avenue, Richmond, with a service afterward in Bennett's Chapel at 12 p. m. William Walls

Walls, William Edward "Billy", went to be with the Lord on December 8, 2023. He was born June 3, 1936 and was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard W. Walls and Mary Ellen Rae Walls; brother, Robert W. Walls. Billy graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Agronomy. He was employed by the Virginia Department of Agriculture for 37 years, working for the Consolidated Lab and as a Supervisor of Enforcement in Field Operations Office of Pesticides and Management. In 1958 he married Nancy Martin, his high school sweetheart and together they raised three children. Billy loved fishing, gardening, riding his case tractor, and was a self taught handyman. He was also known for his sense of humor and "Billy-isms" (funny sayings). He served in the Reserve Army National Guard of Virginia, and as a faithful member of Fairfield Presbyterian church for over 75 years, serving as a Deacon, Elder, and on numerous committees. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Nancy Martin Walls; two daughters, Dr. Kimberley L. Walls D. D. S. , and Karen Walls Carter (Scott); a son, William A. Walls (Anna); grandsons who he loved dearly, Ridge S. Carter (Jordan) and Blake H. Carter; great-grandsons, Ryland and Jackson Carter; brother, Richard H. Walls; and sister in-law, Carol C. Walls. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandpa. Elizabeth "Beth" Shank Creger, 63, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, following a brief illness. Born in Richmond, Beth attended Gill School before enrolling at James Madison University, graduating with a degree in fashion merchandising. Beth's intelligence, confidence and bold spirit were obvious to anyone lucky enough to interact with her, and those traits propelled her to a successful career in business. Those qualities, paired with her sparkling blue eyes and mischievous smile, attracted the attention of Joey Creger, and the two married in August 1982. After the birth of their son Derek, Beth balanced motherhood and her busy career seamlessly. She travelled to untold numbers of baseball and football games to support Derek, and loved every minute of being his #1 fan. In her spare time, she partnered with Joey in his real estate ventures, and served as a role model and sounding board for her many nieces and nephews as they found their way in the world. Beth loved gathering family and friends for holidays and special occasions, often hosting several events each year at her homes in Chesterfield and Smith Mountain Lake. She remembered every birthday and special occasion, and loved picking out special gifts for everyone. . . her thoughtfulness, organization and attention to detail meant those gifts were perfectly chosen, purchased and wrapped months and months before they were needed. After her retirement, Beth enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her beloved granddaughter, Harper, who brought her immeasurable joy. Beth was preceded in death by her parents, Billie Waters Shank and Rupert "Jack" Shank, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Joey M. Creger; her son, Derek (Sara) Creger; her granddaughter, Harper; her extended family and close friends, all of whom will miss her spirit, tenacity and love. Myron Morgan Yagel, Ph. D. , devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed peacefully in his sleep, entered the gates of his heavenly home, and reunited with his beloved wife, on Monday morning, December 4, 2023. At 97 he was preceded in death by his parents, Cameron Galen Yagel and Marjorie Lucille Morgan Yagel, his brother, Gerald Thomas Yagel, and his wife of 63 years, Bobbie Lee Brown Yagel. Born March 5, 1926, in Charlottesville, Virginia, and raised in Richmond, Myron graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, received a B. A. in Chemistry from the University of Richmond in 1952, and an M. A. in Speech Pathology. He served as a much-loved principal at Richmond's Park School for many years, dedicated to the education of special needs children, and also in WWII, rising through the ranks to Naval Lieutenant Commander after continuing in the Navy Reserves. Outside of the classroom, Myron spent several years as both director and coach at Richtop Community Pool; in his early forties, summers were then spent pursuing a PhD in Special Education at UVA. After graduation, he accepted a position at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he taught for twenty years. There Myron enjoyed supervising student teachers and advising for Chi-Alpha, a campus Christian fellowship. Encouraging students in their personal and faith lives was, for him, both a talent and a passion. He also served as deacon and elder at St. Giles Presbyterian Church in Richmond and Graystone United Presbyterian Church in Indiana, PA. Myron's interests included faithful daily devotions, traveling both abroad and across the US, sailing, skiing, photography, gardening, and beekeeping. He also co-authored a marriage mentoring book with his wife, Bobbie, entitled, "15 Minutes to Build a Better Marriage. " He is survived by his three children, J. Craig Yagel, Ph. D. , (Denise), Stephen Thomas Yagel (Elizabeth), Wendy Lee Yagel Watros (Jeffrey); six grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; two nephews; and great-nephews and nieces.
