"Karen Elizabeth Russell surrounded by her husband, children and loved ones went to be with the lord October 3, 2023. Karen Elizabeth Russell, born June 9, 1961 in Roanoke, Virginia to the late Evelyn Terry and Cedric Johnson. Karen Elizabeth Russell was educated by the Roanoke Public city school system and graduated from William Fleming high school. She was a seamstress and cook who enjoyed serving God and feeding others. She is preceded in death by her brothers, William and Alfonso Terry. Her nieces Evelyn "Doll" Terry and Erika D. Terry. She is survived by her husband, Ernest Jesse Russell, and children Ernest Jerale Russell . Breanna Elisha Russell And Vanessa Jackson. Grandchildren( Khalil,Moliek, Saakari) she was a member of Greater Prayer Temple Ministries, True Way Church of God in Christ, and presently The Praising Place Charlotte. She will be remember by all who loved her and by the many people she touched. Home going services for Mrs. Russell will be held Saturday, October 14, 2023, visitation 11:00am, service 12:00pm at The Praising Place Church 5268 N. Sharon Amity Rd. Charlotte, NC. Maxine Wingard Taylor of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully in her home on December 3, 2023. Maxine was born in Lexington, SC to the late Reba and J. Maxcy Wingard where she lived until after her High School Graduation in 1958. Maxine moved to Charlotte where she had a Secretarial career in the insurance industry and then began to work in the J. Murrey Atkins Library on the campus of UNC Charlotte where she worked until her retirement. An avid sports fan, Maxine enjoyed following her favorite teams The Charlotte 49ers, the NC State Wolfpack, the Atlanta Braves, the Carolina Hurricanes and the Carolina Panthers. Maxine was a proud and active member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church for 47 years where her greatest joy was serving and loving those in need. She cared for, fed and helped countless people including several generations of young people on sports fields and dance stages, and in schools. She was a "Mimi" to many who loved her. Maxine was preceded in death by her sister Myrna Black and bonus sisters Mable Tindall and Mickey Awtrey. She is survived by her son Craig (Kim), grandchildren Owen, Lauren and Aaron and her daughter Dana Furr (Scott), grandchildren Taylor and Carson. She loved her 5 grandchildren with her entire heart. Maxine leaves behind many treasured nieces and nephews and friends that were precious to her. A celebration of Maxine's life will be held on Saturday December 16 at 2:00 at St Thomas Lutheran Church in Charlotte. Visitation and fellowship will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to St. Thomas Lutheran Church or to the V Foundation for Cancer Research. Her family also wishes to express their since and heartfelt thanks to Jason Shultz, MD and his entire staff at Novant Oncology, to the incredible team with Novant Hospice Charlotte, and all who loved her and cared for her during her Cancer journey.Show more

DATELINE: KINGS MOUNTAIN, NORTH CAROLINA Sotirios (Sam) Tsilimos Sotirios (Sam) Tsilimos, 77 of Charlotte, North Carolina passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on December 5th, 2023. Born May 1946 on the Island of Chios, Greece, he is the son of the late Giorgos Tsilimos and Kiriaki Pitsikoulis. He is survived by his son Michael Tsilimos and daughter Kiki Tsilimos; son-in-law Max Dicce and grandson Giorgos Maximus Tsilimos Dicce of Charlotte, NC. He also leaves behind his siblings Mixalis Tsilimos, Stamatis Tsilimos and Stella Deleas. He joins the Lord in heaven with his parents and son George Samuel Tsilimos. Sam came to America in the early 1970's as an immigrant and eventually became a US citizen, built his own shopping center and grew a successful restaurant business which ran and worked at for 30+ years. He was well known in the community for his hospitality and upbeat personality. Sam always had a true passion for real estate in Charlotte which later became his focus and career. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Sam was an avid sportsman and found joy working in his shop on gunsmithing and training his dogs for the annual hunting trip to South Dakota. Sam loved America and was grateful for the opportunity to live the true American Dream but never forgot his country of Greece and his island home. Sam was dependable, determined, hardworking and a dedicated father and will be remembered that way among his family and friends. Juanita passed away peacefully with her family by her side December 2, 2023. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was affectionately called Aunt "Skeet" by some of her nieces and nephews. Juanita (Glover) Crudup was born April 25, 1928 to the late Fred Sr. and Hellena (Lovelady) Glover of Forest, Mississippi. She was the ninth child of ten siblings. She is preceded in death by her late husband James W. Crudup, parents Fred and Hellena Glover, three sisters: Clara Washington, Nettie Moore and Mary Ware and five brothers: Fred, Jr. , Joe, Charles, Nathaniel and Morris Glover. On January 17, 1948 Juanita was united in holy matrimony to her childhood sweetheart the late James W. Crudup. They shared 75 years of marriage. To this union four children were born: Helen Crudup-Minifield, Sheenata Crudup, James L. Crudup and Byron Crudup. Juanita was educated in the public schools of Forest, Mississippi. She attended E. T. Hawkins High School. Juanita was a member of Lynch Chapel United Methodist Church of Forest, Mississippi. She also was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Westland, MI. She was an active member of the Senior Usher Board and Women's Society of Christian Service Board. She also helped with the Free Food Distribution given monthly. Juanita was passionate about gardening. She loved watching her vegetables produce and sharing her harvest with others. She also had a love of flowers. When she was able she spent hours in her yard and garden. She also tended her house plants. Her love of plants was passed on to her children. She had a view out the window of her son's home to view the flowers in his landscape. Some of the plants were transplants from her home in Mississippi. She was also known by her family and friends as an excellent cook and baker. Juanita was an avid reader of nonfiction books. She would spend her days reading. She also looked forward every week to reading "The Scott County Times" her hometown newspaper. She would keep up with current events. By reading the newspaper she knew more about what was going on in the community than the people she would talk with on the telephone that currently lived there. Juanita relocated with her late husband to Michigan in 1950. They resided there until her late husband retired in 1989. At that time they moved back to their hometown of Forest, Mississippi and built a home in 1989. After her late husband's health began to fail they relocated to Fort Mill, South Carolina in 2017 to be closer to family. They resided with their son James and daughter in love Kelly. She is survived by her daughters Helen Crudup-Minifield (Jeremiah) of Ypsilanti, MI and Sheenata Crudup of Kalamazoo, MI; sons James L. Crudup (Kelly) of Fort Mill, SC and Byron Crudup of Inkster, MI. ; one grandson James S. Crudup (Phoebe) of Fort Mill, SC and one great granddaughter Maya Crudup of Fort Mill, SC; one sister Lucy V. Moore of Forest, MS, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.Show more
