He leaves behind his mother, Bonnie of East Granby, CT, his brother Cody and his fiance Ashley, of Swanzey, NH, his father, Ron and brother, Michael, of California, and his long-time loving fiance Maryanne, of Windsor. Funeral Services for Justin will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Carl M. Shanahan, 81, of East Granby, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. He was born on December 20, 1941, in Hartford, son to the late Charles M. Shanahan, Jr. and Alice (Evans) Shanahan. Carl grew up in Hartford before he and his family relocated to Windsor in 1958. He was a graduate of Windsor High School, Class of 1960. Following high school, he proudly served his country with the United States Army from February of 1964 up until his honorable discharge in February of 1966 as a Military Policeman. Upon returning home, he was employed for over 30 years with the United States Postal Service, in Poquonock, earning the title of honorable postmaster before his retirement in 1991. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed playing golf, going bowling, and playing cards, especially setback and poker. Carl is survived by his four siblings, Robert Shanahan and his wife Norma of Marlow, NH, Alice Tralli and her husband Angelo of Berlin, Charles Shanahan, III, of East Granby and Susan Shykula and her husband Paul of West Lebanon, NH; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by four siblings, Betty Mooney, Laura DiDomenico, James Shanahan and Dorothy Pizzoferrato. Kathleen O'Connor, 90, of Boston, MA and formerly of Granby, CT, beloved wife for 48 years of the late Thomas O'Connor, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at her Assisted Living Home Compass on the Bay in Boston, MA. Born in Springfield, MA on July 25, 1933, daughter of the late Raymond Gaboury and Katherine Reagan, she was raised in Agawam, MA and was a graduate of Agawam High School, Class of 1952. Kathleen married Thomas Kenney O'Connor in 1960, and the young couple moved from Springfield, MA to Brookfield, CT and then to Granby in 1975 where they raised their three children. Kathleen was a parishioner of St. Therese Parish in Granby for many years where she faithfully attended Mass every week with her family. While Kathleen enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, relaxing at her home and caring for her family, she often spoke with fondness of the trips she took including memorable tours of Ireland and Israel. Most of all, Kathleen will be remembered as the consummate wife, mother, and grandmother, who loved her children and her grandchildren very much. She leaves two sons, Brian Thomas O'Connor of Boston, MA and Thomas R. O'Connor of Granby, CT; three grandchildren, Bridget M. O'Connor, Mitchell R. O'Connor, and Ryan C. O'Connor all of Boston, MA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Carolyn J. O'Connor; and a sister, Catherine Josel. Robert Frederick Koch, 82, of North Granby, beloved husband of Ann Downing Koch, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2023. Bob was born in New Hartford on November 2, 1940, the son of the late Karl W. Koch, Sr. and Justine Olga (Schlosser) Koch. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Downy, North Granby, his daughters, Holly K. Johnson and her husband R. Curtis Johnson of West Granby, Robin P. Gelzinis and her husband Charles of Haines City, FL, his four grandchildren, Brett C. Johnson and his wife Kaitlyn of North Canton, Lacey E. Gelzinis of Haines City, FL, Olivia L. Johnson of Granby and Alec Gelzinis of Haines City, FL, and his brother Mark A. Koch and his partner Adam Dydak of New Smyrna Beach, FL. Bob was predeceased by his parents and his brother Karl W. Koch, Jr. Bob graduated from Oliver Wolcott Technical School in 1959 and began his career as a machinist with Hartford Special Machinery Company and Windsor Airmotive, Inc. He was a talented tool and die maker and engineered projects at work and home. Early on, Bob became a licensed projectionist with management responsibilities for several movie theaters in the Greater Hartford area. He was from a generation of people who learned and mastered many different trades; a true craftsman who was a hands-on project problem solver of the first order. There were no short cuts in his workmanship. Bob thoroughly enjoyed his work and hobbies and actively encouraged others to join him. He had a fondness for yellow Labrador Retrievers and helped raise and train several with Downy. As a youth he achieved the honor of Eagle Scout and sustained a life-long passion for all manner of outdoor activities on land, air and water. Bob enjoyed traveling with Downy in their RV, visiting several states in the U. S. and provinces in Canada, as well as attending many NASCAR races where he was known as "Camper Bob. " His life-long passion for auto racing culminated in a commitment to the Whelen Modified Tour, participating for more than a decade on the local and travel support team. Virginia "Ginny" Mangels , 97, of Granby, CT passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side. She was born June 9, 1926 in Jeffersonville, VT to the late C. Leland and Laura (Plante) Severance. Ginny lived most of her adult life in Connecticut before moving to New Hampshire in 1983, then onto Florida in 1992, and finally back to Connecticut in 2011. Before retiring, Ginny worked for Western Union Telegraph and for a NYSE company for 28 years. She is survived by her grandson, Adam Rapose and his wife Alison of East Granby, CT; her granddaughter, Bethany Romano of Springfield, MA; her great grandchildren, Chloe and Brenna Rapose; her daughter-in-law, Donna Rapose; extended family and friends, too numerous to list. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Leland, Erwin and Bertrand Severance; her sisters, Bernice Severance, Lorice McLane and Mary Edwards; her husband Henry Mangels; and her son, Bruce Rapose. Ginny was a fiercely strong woman, full of life and love. She was extremely intelligent and gained much of her knowledge from reading. She enjoyed gardening and crafting and she loved to bake her famous spice cookies (a secret recipe coveted by many!) While living in Florida, she was an active member of her neighborhood watch patrol and volunteered for the local election polling process. Most recently, Ginny was an active member of the Congregational Church of Somersville, she continued to read voraciously and she kept her mind sharp by doing cryptograms and other word puzzles. Above all else, what she enjoyed most in life was her family. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 11am at the Congregational Church of Somersville, 22 Maple St. , Somersville, CT. Jolanta (Malinowski) Sheely, 74, of Granby, Connecticut, passed away at home on August 26, 2023, surrounded by her close family. Jolanta was born April 9, 1949, in Fallingbostel, Hannover, Germany, to the late Wladyslaw/Walter and Jozefa/Josephine (Andrusiak) Malinowski, Polish citizens displaced by the war. She immigrated to the United States, along with her parents and sister, the late Donna Malinowski, in August 1950 and grew up in Wallingford, Connecticut, where she graduated from Lyman Hall High School in 1967. Jolanta married Thomas Sheely in 1973, and they made their residence in Granby in 1979, where she lived until the end of her life. Jolanta was very active in her children's education, volunteering to host art classes and science club in their classrooms at Granby Public Schools. She was an avid gardener and delighted many passers-by who gladly purchased her beautiful bouquets and boxes of raspberries from a small roadside stand. She successfully tried her hand at many art forms through the years, including sketching, pastels, and ceramics, and amassed a significant collection of art and gardening books. She took joy in the arrival of her grandson in 2009 and looked forward to his visits. Jolanta is survived by her husband, Tom; her children, Nathan and Kate; her grandson, Avery; her brothers, Richard and his wife Chris Malinowski, and Leslie Malinowski; and her nieces and nephew, Morgan, Tayler, and Kelsey Malinowski, and Hally, Madeleine, and Michael Sheely. She will be eternally missed by her heartbroken family. Craig T. Woodhouse, 69, of North Granby, beloved husband of 41 years to Paula Woodhouse, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 21, 2023, with his family by his side. Craig was born in Hartford on May 27, 1954. Raised in Windsor Locks, he has been a resident of Granby for over thirty years in the house he built with his wife. Craig started his career as a carpenter and followed as a well-respected electrician for the IBEW Local Union 35 for over thirty years, and after retirement he and his wife purchased and ran the Elm Street Package Store in Windsor Locks. Craig was known for his charisma, love for life, sense of humor, and kind-hearted nature. He loved and cherished his family and enjoyed spending time with friends, riding his Harley Davison throughout New England, going to lakes and beaches, camping, watching Patriots games, walking his dog, Nash, and always up for anything fun. He was known to put a smile on anyone's face and lit up every room the moment he walked in. He will forever be missed. Craig is survived by his wife, Paula; five children: Brian (Kelly) Woodhouse, Patrick (Michelle) Woodhouse, Christopher (Emily) Woodhouse, Craig (Abby) Woodhouse, and Lee-Anna (William) Greenwood; brother: Bruce (Jeanne) Woodhouse; sister-in-law, Suzanne (Paul) Rivard; brother-in-law, Dean Fisher; nephew, Paul (Maria) Rivard, great niece Brady-Lee Rivard; his grandchildren: Mason, Benjamin, Declan, William, Nick; and step-grandchildren Grace and Audrey. Chester Hniedziejko, 93, of East Granby, beloved husband of the late Rosemarie (Samsel) Hniedziejko, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2023, at his home. Born in New Britain, son of the late Anthony and Elizabeth (Adamska) Hniedziejko, he lived in Bloomfield for many years moving to East Granby over 40 years ago. Chester served in the US Army during the Korean War where he received the Purple Heart. He had been employed as a carpenter by the Local Union until his retirement and was a member of the Simsbury VFW Post and the DAV Chapter 12. He enjoyed small engine repair, fishing, and gardening. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by five brothers Henry, Edward, Stanley, Casimir, and Wesley; and three sisters Hedwig "Jessie" Taradeina, Helen Mangiafico, and Mary Dusza. He leaves his nieces and nephews, Carol Christensen, Karen Cremer, Lou Ann Piela, Joyce Niejako, Barbara Martin, Patricia Kammerer, Donna Niejako, Joan Weber, Peter Nejako, Robert Taradeina, Paul Mangiafico, Kathleen Mangiafico, Nancy McGrath, Jacqueline Woronecki, Steven Hniedziejko, Kathleen Matczak, James Matczak, Maria Babicki, & Sterling Samsel.
