HAVERHILL - It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of our Mimi, Margaret D. Ferlito who entered eternal rest on October 29, 2023 surrounded by her loving family at Ashland Farms Assisted Living in North Andover. Margaret was born in Haverhill, MA on January 12, 1934 and was only a few months shy of her 90'th birthday. She was the daughter of the late Leopold and Irene (Fortier) Lacroix. Margaret was the last of 6 siblings to pass from the closeknit, religious, French-Canadian Lacroix family who resided in Lafayette Square. She was predeceased by her brothers, Roland (Al) Lacroix, Gerard (Joe) Lacroix and Leo Lacroix; and by her sisters, Theresa Fici and Antoinette Crepeau. She graduated from Saint James High School, class of 1952. Always a whiz with numbers and math, Margaret worked as a bookkeeper at Seymour Shoe, Clicker City and Regan Ford until her retirement. While at Seymour Shoe, she worked closely with famous shoe designer, Stuart Weitzman, son of Seymour Weitzman. When Stuart traveled to Haverhill for the unveiling of the mural honoring famous Haverhill residents, he spied Margaret in the crowd and the two reunited, much to her delight. Being devout Catholics, Margaret and Tom attended the 4:00 PM Mass every Saturday at Sacred Hearts Church. They were frequent visitors to the adoration chapel on Fridays, lighting votive candles for many prayerful requests. Margaret married the love of her life, Tom on May 10, 1953. He passed away last year, in May 2022, just after their 69'th wedding anniversary. They were truly soulmates, sharing the same common interests and strict family values in a heartwarming American love story. Margaret was an incredible Italian cook with her signature dishes including, homemade pasta, ultra-thin homemade raviolis, meatballs and sauce that rivaled North End restaurants. Other interests, included a love for Salisbury Beach and the Bradford Swim Club. Margaret and Tom were founding members of the BSC and were honored for their 50 continuous years of membership with a free season pass and reserved parking space. Margaret is survived by her son, Dr. Thomas A. Ferlito and his wife Kathy of North Andover, MA and her daughter, Donna Ferlito-Brown and her husband, Eric of East Derry, NH. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, greeting them at every visit with a big smile, hugs and kisses. Her surviving grandchildren include Kaitlyn Brown and her partner, Carl Campbell and great-grandson, Carl IV, Christopher Brown, Erika Jimenez and her husband, Christian and great-grandson, Hail. Also, Allison Ferlito, Dr. Thomas C. Ferlito and his wife, Sunnie, Dr. Kathryn Frey and her husband, Derek. Our family would like to acknowledge the exemplary care provided by Ashland Farms Assisted Living. Our mother was treated by their staff like family and each visited her bedside to pay their respects at her passing.
