"June Audrey Clark, 63, of Mason City Iowa, passed away at 5:55pm, on September 4, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. A celebration of life will be on September 24, 2023 from 3 PM - 6 PM, with a service at 4 PM. The gathering will be held at Edgewater Bay Pavilion in Albert Lea, MN. The service will be officiated by Pastor Matt Hundley. Cards are greatly appreciated by the June Clark family. June was the fourth child born to Harold and Delores (Becker) Clark, on December 9, 1959, in Albert Lea, MN. She was raised with her six sisters, and two brothers in Minnesota, and attended Albert Lea Senior High. Following her graduation, she stayed in Albert Lea to build her life, but later moved to Mason City, IA. June loved to play Yahtzee and Bingo, swim, write, and sing country songs. She adored frogs, butterflies, cardinals, and the color purple. June could never leave the house without her hair looking perfect. She cherished her children and grandchildren. All of whom, along with her hair, she deemed perfect. A beloved mother and grandmother, she was devoted to her family and relished in the quality time spent together. Left to cherish June's memory are her children, Travis (Amanda) Clark, Dalene (Cameron) Prindle, Dale (Mariah Forman) Christenson Jr. , Jacob (Jenny Flatness) Christenson, Shelene (Josh Smith) Clark, and Kere (Brandon Hadacek) Clark-Engstrom; grandchildren; Makayla (Kyle) Christenson, Spencer Clark, Makenna Christenson, Savanna Clark, Jace Prindle, Hayden Christenson, Mason Christenson, Weston Sorensen, Drayen Clark, Lyric Clark, Eagan Sorensen, Alyzae Prindle, Kodiak Hadacek, and Meadow Hadacek; a great-grandchild, Kameron Christenson; siblings; Judy Moreno, Jean (Tom) Tomlinson, Jane Hamberg, Jeff (Kimberly) Turner, Joyce Theis, Jay (Diana) Becker, and Joleane (Jared) Chamberlain; along with many nieces and nephews. "Raymond Laverne Bonnichsen, 71, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away November 26, 2023 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center. Raymond was born July 1, 1952 in southern Iowa where he was later adopted by Royce and Patricia (McGill). He graduated from Louisa-Muscatine High School and enlisted in the United States Army. Raymond later attended College of the Ozarks. He was united in marriage to Beth Blakey and they had two children, Eric and Rachel. They later divorced. Raymond enjoyed many hours watching western movies. He could quote just about any of them right off the bat. He also had a passion for music and bowling. Raymond loved all kinds of music, but he always kept the oldies classic channel on the radio. He'll be remembered for his sense of humor and his "charismatic" behavior with the ladies. Raymond also loved everything Hawkeyes and Chicago Bears and Cubs. Raymond is survived by his fiance, Jenny Stankey; children, Eric Bonnichsen and Rachel Bonnichsen; step-children, Jacob Stankey and Madelyn Stankey as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family. "Caitlyn Elizabeth (Patrie) Crane, 37, peacefully passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023 surrounded by her family. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the Mason City Moose Lodge, 22 4th St NW, Mason City, Iowa, 50401. Caitlyn was born Oct 7, 1986, near Fort Hood, Texas to Larry Patrie \u0026amp; Mary Katherine "Katy" McGinn. Her early years were spent on the base where her father was stationed while serving in the Army. Growing up, Caitlyn and her brother always managed to find some sort of mischief. Whether it be the time she sat in a fire ant hill or the countless attempts to give their Nanny a run for her money. In 1993, Caitlyn moved to Charles City, Iowa where she attended school at Lincoln Elementary. She went on to Charles City Middle School and Charles City High School graduating in 2005. While in school, Caitlyn tried her hand at volleyball, basketball, and tennis. She loved hanging out with friends and cruising Main Street. Throughout High School Caitlyn was employed at Kmart and Comprehensive Systems. After graduation, she attended Hawkeye Community College where she studied the HVAC program. In 2010, Caitlyn began working as a jailor for the Floyd County Sheriff's Office. She enjoyed her job, taking pride in what she did. While employed there she formed lasting friendships and was excited to be joined by her big brother who became a Floyd County Deputy. On September 5, 2017, as fate would have it, Caitlyn and Alec "Al" Crane's paths intertwined, and an unbreakable bond was formed. Al describes Caitlyn as beauty in the rarest form and almost since the day they met, the two were inseparable. In early 2018, Caitlyn moved into Al's home in Mason City and together they began to establish roots in the area, quickly finding several favorite restaurants during their day dates. Caitlyn was always up for weekend trips and any opportunity to travel with Al. She also took pride in being an aunt and always had fun hanging out with her nieces and nephews any chance she got. In true Caitlyn fashion, she had the ability to find happiness in even the smallest of things; whether it be watching movies or getting sucked into a marathon of crime shows. In her spare time, Caitlyn enjoyed throwing darts and cheering on the Hawkeyes. She would even trade in her Big Gulp of Dr. Pepper or Mt. Dew for a Bloody Mary on game days. Despite appearing quiet and reserved on the outside, Caitlyn was full of personality and always looking for an opportunity to make people laugh. Caitlyn received the greatest title of her life "Mama" on April 6, 2019, when Haisley "Hais" Venice Crane was born. Hais instantly became Al and Caitlyn's entire world. Very few things could steal Caitlyn's time or attention away from her two greatest loves. Her favorite times were spent in the backyard with her little family, often swimming with Hais. It was also that very backyard where Caitlyn married her soulmate on April 8, 2023, during an intimate ceremony surrounded by close family and friends. Fearless, brave, and courageous are words that only begin to describe Caitlyn's personality. These very traits were proved tried and true when she received an earth-shattering cancer diagnosis in May of 2022. Despite every hardship thrown her way, she managed to always find the positive and could make light out of even the darkest days. The weight of burden was lightened by so many people along the way. A special thank you to Hospice Care of North Iowa and Happy Haven who transformed Caitlyn's bedroom into a tranquil place of peace and comfort. The family wishes to extend a debt of gratitude to the Floyd County Sheriff's Office, Ben, Kris and the entire Poet Family, and Jane Fischer and her team for the countless ways they offered support. Although Caitlyn's family and friends feel there are so many chapters of her life left unwritten, they are reminded of just how big Caitlyn's love for her family, friends and simple life was. "Charles Harvey Rayburn, 80, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday morning, November 22, 2023 at home. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday November 28, 2023 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel , 126 3rd St NE, Mason City, IA, with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00am at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel. Chuck was born February 17, 1943, in Minneapolis, MN to Harvey and Janet (Boose) Rayburn. As a youth, he was active in sailing, skiing both water and snow. He had built his own sail boat and spent many days sailing Clear Lake. Chuck graduated from Mason City High School in 1961. He then served four years in the United States Air Force in France. He began a career with the family mobile home business and Mechanical Air Systems in Mason City while attending classes at North Iowa Area Community College to obtain his AA Degree in Business. On August 17, 1974, he married Carol Ann Moe at The Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, IA. Chuck and Carol raised their daughter Christine in Mason City, IA. Chuck was active in bicycling around north-central Iowa and participated avidly in many of the first 25 RAGBRAI's. Chuck and Carol enjoyed many volleyball games around Rayburn Court and the Mason City area. Chuck enjoyed sharing bicycling, car, and HVAC stories with anyone he met. He was a devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather. Chuck loved casino car trips with Carol to Marquette and Northwood and making trips to Slinger, WI in the Mustang. He prioritized attending Christine's cello concerts and recitals, grandsons' soccer games, and the annual week at the cabin in St. Germain, WI with Carol, Chris, Dave, and his grandchildren. His guidance and presence will be greatly missed. Carl Solum Jr

"Carl William Solum Jr. 95, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, November 17, 2023 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 am Saturday December 9, 2023 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City, Iowa. The burial ceremony will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa immediately following the service. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the funeral service from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel. Carl was born on January 31, 1928, in North Dakota, the son of Carl and Sarah (Trytten) Solum Sr. In 1944 at the early age of 16, he volunteered and honorably served in the Merchant Marines as part of the United States Coast Guard. During WWII, Carl sailed on the Liberty Ship, W. R. Grace was part of the mission called Murmansk Run, to deliver U. S. supplies to Russia. Known as a Suicide Run, his ship was part of an Allied convoy of ships that made a dangerous cruise through the Arctic waters during frigid weather. Years later, Carl was invited and attended to the Russian Embassy in Washington, DC, to receive the Russian Hero Medal and the Russian War Medal for his efforts in delivering much-needed supplies to the Russian Army, in an effort to help defeat Hitler. He also served two years in the United States Army and was twice the Commander of Mason City's VFW Post 733. Carl took great pride in being a Veteran and being able to defend our Country and loved teaching and discussing politics, a true patriot. Additionally, Mason City High School later awarded Carl an honorary degree. He spent his work life being a welder for various companies and began his own welding business in 1964, known as Solum Enterprises. Carl was a well-respected and skilled welder, he accomplished numerous tasks being a boilermaker, making missiles and silos, and countless other things. Carl also taught a night welding class at North Iowa Area Community College. On April 11, 1960, Carl married Joy Mae McDougle and together they created a life they loved spending time with their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He and his sons enjoyed racing cars at the local stock car track. He taught his children the art of welding as well as how to work on cars and drive race cars. Carl created art, loved music, played guitar, would sing, and loved to dance. He had a passion for learning and was always reading. Lastly, he loved to cook and his specialty in the kitchen was spaghetti as it always had just the right amount of flavor. He was viewed by many in the West Haven neighborhood as someone they could count on and look up to as an extended family member. Carl also enjoyed the memories he made with his many friends and family at Village Court and other local restaurants. Carl said that he was able to keep going every day because he would "Keep Smiling". He will be remembered by his smile and kind greetings. Sonia Babet Gouws, 60, of Mason City, Iowa passed away on November 15, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Her Memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 25th at the Church of Nazarene, 509 S. Carolina Ave, in Mason City at 11am CT (livestream ) with Pastor Lori Fish officiating. Immediately following her service lunch will be served at the church. Sonia was born on June 23, 1963, in Pretoria, South Africa to Adriaan and Gertuida (Kroch) Van Der Merwe. She attended school in Pretoria, South Africa and graduated in 1979. On June 20, 1981, she married the love of her life Joseph "Joe" Gouws in Pretoria. Of this union three children were born. The couple relocated their family to Cottage Grove, Minnesota then later Mission, Kansas. Sonia worked for the University of Kansas Medical Center as the Director of the Cancer Research Labs. Her and Joe moved to Mason City five years ago and Sonia worked as a Lab Technician for MercyOne. She was a woman with many wonderful qualities. She was affectionate, beautiful, big-hearted and charismatic. She was also creative, dependable, and empathetic, always willing to lend a helping hand. She enjoyed road trips, seeing new places and meeting new people. Family was of utmost importance to her. She loved her family with unconditional love. She enjoyed spending time with her close and extended family. Sonia has a wide range of hobbies and interests. From a young age, she excelled in track and field, particularly in the 100-meter and 200-meter events. She also had a passion for flower decorating and was known for her artistic flair. She also loved playing Canesta. Sonia was a devoted Christian and lived her life with compassion and consideration of others. Helping others brought immense happiness, and she was always willing to go the extra mile. Throughout Sonia's fight with cancer, she never lost faith. On the contrary she used every opportunity to share Jesus's love with everyone she came in contact with. Her mission in life was to share her testimony with others. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Mason City. Sonia was working on an inspirational book and pamphlet documenting her journey during her fight with cancer and dermatomyositis. Book title will be: To Hell and back in the hand of God. Those left to cherish her loving memory are her husband, Joe Gouws; children Genell Gouws, Joe Gouws, and AJ Gouws; mother Gertruida Van Der Merwe; grandchildren Soonei Gouws, Austin Gouws, Axton Gouws, Domik Dzbikowicz, and Josiah Gouws; siblings Suria Botha, Marius Van Der Merwe, and Leon Van Der Merwe. She was preceded in death by her father Adriaan Van Der Merwe. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge in Iowa City, Iowa. "Paul Dragoo October 17, 1932 - October 23, 2023 Paul Dragoo, 91, originally of Boone, Iowa, passed away at Good Shepherd Care Center in Mason City, Iowa, on Monday, October 23, 2023. He was born on October 17, 1932, in Princeton, Missouri the son of Lonnie and Hattie (Oliver) Dragoo. On November 2, 1952, he married Rose Lee Kincade at the Baptist Church of Spickard, Missouri. He graduated in 1949 from Princeton High School in Princeton, Missouri. After his marriage to Rose, they spent two years at Fort Hood, Texas, where Paul was stationed in the Army. They moved to Iowa, and Paul worked for a farmer and then worked for Boone County for 30 years until his retirement. He was a 60-year member of Bethel Church in rural Boone, where he served as a board member and was active in the AWANA children's ministry. He was also very active in the music ministry of the church. Music was a big part of Paul's life; he played the guitar and harmonica. Paul and Rosie enjoyed camping with the family. Paul was preceded in death by his wife of almost 70 years, Rose Dragoo; his parents, Lonnie and Hattie (Oliver) Dragoo; sister, Mary Etta Ireland; son, Douglas Dragoo; sisters and brothers-in-law: Dilila (Kincade) Tharp-Brinnen and Dorthy (Kincade) Bracewell, Donald Kincade, Ronald Kincade, and Keith Bracewell. He is survived by his daughter, Judy (Merlin) Bishop of Rudd, IA; daughter, Deva (Craig) Moore of Auburn, WA; daughter-in-law, Cammie (Doug) Dragoo of Canton, N. C. ; grandchildren: Justin (Emily) Bishop, Jeff (Claire) Bishop, Katie (Matt) McDermott, Ian Moore, Tiffany (Marc) Monroy; great-grandchildren: Ben Bishop, Miles Bishop, Hudson Bishop, Louis Bishop, Sullivan Bishop, Rosie McDermott, Simon McDermott, Abe McDermott, and Tayanna Monroy; brother-in-law, Robert (Alida) Kincade; sisters-in-law, Patsy Kincade and Jean Kincade, and brother-in-law, Kenny Ireland. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in Rockford, IA. Darlene was born February 17,1939, daughter of Henry Lowell and Josephine Evelyn (Calhoun) Arndt. She attended Mason City Schools. On Oct. 4, 1956, she was united in marriage to Cyrus Lloyd Berk in Mason City. She spent her life taking care of children and enjoyed it greatly. Darlene enjoyed playing cards, any type of games and spending time with her dogs. Her home was never empty, always having a four-legged companion waiting for her. She loved her chihuahua the most. She loved being a grandma best of all and tried her best to share her love of horror films and creature features with them. People will remember her for her baking and will miss her bread and pies. "Thomas E. Godden, 73 of Mason City, IA passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 7, 2023 with family at his side. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a. m. Monday, November 13, 2023 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City, IA. He will be buried at Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake, IA. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Memorials may be directed in care of the family. Thomas Eugene was born July 10, 1950 in Mason City, the son of Wallace Nickolas and Ardis Marion (Lockrem) Godden. Growing up, Thomas attended school in Mason City, soon beginning work with the City of Mason City. On March 14, 1970 Thomas married Sharon Sable, and the couple welcomed a daughter to their family, Mary. The couple later separated. On July 24, 1993 Thomas married his love, Kathleen J. Smith in East Park and welcomed her son, Justin to the family. Through the years Thomas enjoyed buying and selling used cars all over North Iowa, looking forward to trips and car sales throughout the Midwest. Tom had a deep passion for cars, especially when it came to watching stock car races in North Iowa. He cherished moments spent with his beloved wife, Kathleen. His skill at the claw machine made him a hero to his grandchildren, winning any prize they wished. Casino trips were a source of excitement for him, and he enjoyed participating in group activities, from music and puzzles to bingo and card games during his time at the nursing home. Tom had a sweet tooth for pop, candy, and bananas, but his greatest love was his family, who brought him endless happiness. "Marlyn D. Dieken, 87, eight days from his 88th birthday, died November 7, 2023 at Good Shepherd Care Center, Mason City. A Funeral Service will be held on 11:00AM Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S Pennsylvania Ave, Mason City, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10:00AM to 11:00AM. Marlyn, the oldest child of John and Mattie (Christians) Dieken, was born November 15, 1935, in Adrian, MN. He attended country school and Little Rock, IA High School. He worked on the family farm beside his parents, until he joined the U. S. Army in 1954. He was stationed in Texas, Fort Leonard Wood, MO, and was then sent to Alaska to lead a crew in building an earthquake proof church. When he returned home from his service, he met Connie Thomas on a blind date and they were married on April 15, 1957. Their union was blessed with five children. After a severe car accident, Marlyn was trained and opened a shoe repair business in Clear Lake. Soon, he added new shoes and orthopedic shoes for all ages. Marlyn and Connie soon moved their business to Mason City. He started making custom shoes for people with special needs. After several years the Mason City business was moved to Waverly, IA. Marlyn mentored teenagers who worked for him from Bremwood Center. Some of those teens stayed in contact for years. Marlyn continued to repair shoes until he was 80 years old. After retirement, Marlyn and Connie moved back to Mason City to be close to their children. Marlyn spent his last years on wood-working projects with a scroll saw and watching birds at home and at Lime Creek Nature Center. He is survived by his children, Donna (Tom) Rafferty, Steve (Dawn) Dieken, Pam (Tom) Solberg and Lisa Dieken; eight grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren; his brother, Don (Marie) Dieken, Little Rock, IA and sister, Diann (Gerald) Meendering, Aurelia, IA; as well as two nephews. Marlyn was preceded in death by his wife, Connie, an infant daughter, Debra (Donna\u0027s twin) and his parents.
