Evelyn Juliette Tyson, affectionately known as Judy, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2023, in Dahlonega, Georgia, at the age of 83. She was born on November 10, 1939, in Wadesboro, NC, to the late William Lawrence Maxwell and Evelyn Geneva Johnson Maxwell. Judy will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 63 years, Bradley Tyson, her son Max (Debra) Tyson, her daughter Melissa Tyson (all of Dahlonega), and her cherished granddaughters Jennifer Tyson (Atlanta GA), Savannah Tyson (Tampa FL), Mallie Sykes (St. Pete Beach FL), Lane (JT) Alexander (Gainesville GA). Judy was a remarkable individual. She possessed a sharp intellect, always presenting herself with elegance and thoughtfulness. She had a kind and selfless nature, always putting others before herself. Judy was deeply passionate about missions, her flowers and yard, and she held a strong devotion to God, her family, her church, and her community. Judy attended Meredith College in Raleigh, NC and later graduated from Bowman Gray in Concord, NC with a degree in Radiologic Technology. She married her high school sweetheart, Brad, on June 12, 1960. She started her career as an x-ray technologist. Later she played a vital role in creating and running a daycare center at Cairo First Baptist and served as a migrant education staff member at Lumpkin County Schools. Judy was also an office manager for Dr. Gene Westmoreland in Dahlonega for many years. Judy found solace and strength in her faith, worshiping at Wadesboro First Baptist Church, Spartanburg First Baptist Church, Union First Baptist Church, Cairo First Baptist Church and Dahlonega Baptist Church. Her spiritual journey was an important aspect of her life, providing her with guidance and comfort. She was active in the Baptist Women's Missionary Union her entire adult life, including holding the position of WMU president. She taught many Sunday school classes, Girls in Action, and Vacation Bible School classes over the years. She loved volunteering in the nursery and was an active member of the Challengers Sunday School class at Dahlonega Baptist Church. Outside of her professional and spiritual pursuits, Judy had a variety of hobbies that brought her joy. She had a passion for gardening, cooking, and music, particularly playing the piano and singing in the choir. Above all, she found great fulfillment in helping others and spending time with her beloved granddaughters. A visitation will be held in memory of Judy on Friday, September 15, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Dahlonega Funeral Home, located at 20 Gibson Road, Dahlonega, GA 30533. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, September 16, at 10:30 am at Dahlonega Baptist Church, located at 234 Hawkins Street, Dahlonega, GA 30533. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Judy's memory can be made to WMU Dahlonega Baptist Church, located at 234 Hawkins Street, Dahlonega, GA 30533, or to The Anne Green Free Clinic, located at 75 Rock House Road, Dahlonega, GA 30533. These organizations were dear to Judy's heart and represent causes she deeply believed in. Judy will be greatly missed but forever remembered for her intelligence, grace, selflessness, beautiful smile and unwavering love for her family, friends and community.

Mr. Thurmond "Joe" Ray Powers, age 77, of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023. He was born to the late Walter and Laura Powers on August 29, 1946, in Cleveland, Georgia. He was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church in Blairsville, Georgia. Joe had a love for NASCAR racing. His favorite all-time driver was Bill Elliott. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 48 years, Bertha Jean Powers; children Elaine Day and Bobby Dixon; siblings Marion Powers, Aron Powers, Junior Powers, Mose Powers, Dillard (Linda) Powers, Myrtice Palmer, Martha (Junior) Gooch, Melvin (Margie) Powers Ruby Burgus, Lois (Hoyt) Gearin, Sadie (Herbert) Cox, and an infant baby girl. Survivors include his children, Sidney Michael (Lori) Dixon of Cumming, Jerry K. Dixon of Dahlonega, and Sherry (Zach) Wilson of Eatonton; grandchildren Michael Joseph Dixon, Patrick Harkins, Savannah Harkins, Jordan Wilson; great-grandchild Raylan Dixon; sisters-in-law Shirley Powers of Cleveland, Vivian Conley, Evelyn Shook, and Bessie Brown, all of Blairsville; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at 12:00 PM in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Interment will follow in New Harmony Baptist Church cemetery in Union County. Mr. Waldo Carvin Lunsford, age 95, of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023. He was born in Suches, Georgia, on October 8, 1928, to the late Cicero Lunsford and the late Lula Jane Abercrombie Lunsford. Mr. Lunsford was a man of strong faith, following the Baptist tradition, and found great joy in the beauty of God's outdoors. Waldo lived a full life surrounded by his love for family and nature. He cherished moments spent hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren, creating lasting memories in the great outdoors. His passion extended to gardening, canning, and tending to his yard, where he found solace and fulfillment. He is survived by his children, Jerry (Penny) Lunsford and Janet Robinson; grandchildren Lyndsey (Clint) Freeland, Laura Lunsford, and Josh (Ashley) Robinson; and great-grandchildren, Jack, Rhett, and Evy Freeland. Mr. Lunsford is preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean Stringer Lunsford, and son-in-law, Larry Robinson. He was the last surviving member of his seven siblings. In accordance with Mr. Lunsford's wishes, he will be cremated. A celebration of Waldo's life will take place in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home at 1:00 pm on Monday, November 13, 2023. The Reverend Stephen Gerrells will officiate the service, and inurnment will follow at Dahlonega Memorial Park.
