She came into the world as a little sister to her brother David and went on to become big sister to 6 more siblings. A lifelong resident of Lansing she attended St. Therese primary school and graduated in 1967 from JW Sexton High School. In 1969 she married Martin Pennell, and they remained in wedded bliss up until her passing. Marty and Jan would go on to have 3 kids and she considered being a mom her most important role in life. This is where she received the name 'Aunt Jan' which is what her kids affectionately called her. Her very favorite thing to be called though was Grandma. She has 5 grandchildren which she loved and doted on. When she wasn't caring for others some of her favorite things were girls trips up north, visits to the casino, concerts, playing a game of Yahtzee or board games with friends, reading a good thriller, bingo, and gardening. She was also an avid bowler and spent many years on various leagues around Lansing. She loved to try out new hobbies all the time some of them included collecting beanie babies, crocheting, solving the Rubik's cube, canning, and making homemade chocolates at Christmas. Mostly she loved to spend time with her family, especially her baby sister and best friend June. The legacy she leaves is one of kindness and compassion. She was often described as 'the nicest' person you'll ever meet. She never had a negative thing to say to or about anyone and could find the good in all people.
