Judith Karen Lipina, 76, of Berne, Indiana passed away Sunday, September 10, 2023. She was born on January 28, 1947 to the late Reverend Doctor Melvin L. Gentry, who passed away on March 4, 2013 and the late Annie K. "Kathleen" (Simpson) Gentry who passed away on March 2, 2021. Judy was united in Marriage to Arthur "Art" Lipina on July, 9, 1971. Judy was a faithful member of West Missionary Church. Before this, the family attended Grace Bible Church and First Missionary Church. She was actively involved in children's ministry her entire adult life. She taught Sunday School, played the piano, sang in the choir, supported the AWANA program, acted as Sunday School Superintendent for several years, volunteered to help with Bible School and started the Samaritans Purse Shoe Box Program at the church. Judy added a creative touch to all her teaching. She made God's word relatable to children by using object lessons. Teaching was not a job to Judy, it was a calling. She was a dedicated teacher at South Adams School for over 37 years, retiring in 2008. She taught all grades Kindergarten through 6th Grade; however, 3rd Grade by far was her favorite. After "retirement," she continued to substitute teach, investing a total of 51 years in education. She cared about her students and co-workers. Judy was a loving and adventurous mother and wife who was not afraid of a challenge. Hiking, camping, and traveling were a mainstay in the Lipina household. She was a faithful servant of the Lord and poured love and wisdom into her entire family. Survivors include her husband, Arthur "Art" Lipina of Berne, Indiana; two sons, Andy (Jennifer) Lipina of Knoxville, Tennessee and Aaron (Ashley) Lipina of Fort Wayne, Indiana; daughter, Alison (Daniel) Strausbaugh of Marion, Indiana; two brothers, Daniel (Kathy Marie) Gentry of Thomasville, North Carolina and Melvin "Larry" Gentry of Seneca, South Carolina; sister, Kathy Ann Gentry of Spartanburg, South Carolina; and seven grandchildren: DJ Lipina, Rachel Lipina, Areia Lipina, Silas Lipina, Ruben Lipina, Lucy Lipina, and Caroline Strausbaugh. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a. m. Friday, September 15, 2023, at West Missionary Church with Pastor Keith Rupp officiating. Burial will be held at Marion National Cemetery, Marion, Indiana. Family and friends will be received from 4:00 to 7:00 p. m. Thursday, September 14, 2023, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Preferred memorials can be given to Melvin L. Gentry Fund at Southern Wesleyan University (checks payable to Southern Wesleyan University) or Lifewise - South Adams. Denver Neuenschwander, 86, of Berne, Indiana passed away Wednesday afternoon, November 22, 2023, surrounded by family at Swiss Village in Berne. He was born on September 7, 1937, at home in Wabash Township in Adams County, Indiana to the late Amos and Lavina C. (Amstutz) Neuenschwander. Denver married Bertha Mae Reiff on December 28, 1968, in Schwenksville Pennsylvania, and she preceded him in death on August 24, 2017. Denver was a member of First Mennonite Church in Berne, where he served the Lord for over 20 years as an usher, and sang in the Men's Chorus for 3 years under Dr. Freeman Burkholder. He was a member of the Monroe Farm Bureau Co-Op and was the President for 10 years. Denver was also a member of the Berne Conservation Club. He was a self-employed grain farmer. As a young man, he worked for Liechty Brothers in Berne. He then harvested grain in the West for nine years as a custom wheat cutter. He worked for two years in a Mennonite Mental Hospital in Kansas and worked part-time for twelve years for Swiss City Painter. Denver enjoyed farming, traveling, trap shooting, and playing pool. He spent many days in a cabin in Cocraine Ontario Canada where he liked to fish and hunt. But his first love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his son, Dan (Damara) Neuenschwander of Berne, Indiana; daughter, Becky (Matt) Buckingham of Berne, Indiana; daughter, Sara Neuenschwander of Galloway, Ohio; brother, Lloyd (Carol) Neuenschwander of Berne, Indiana; sister, Lorene (Dwight) Brenneman of Goshen, Indiana; and eight grandchildren, Tyler (Kelsie) Neuenschwander, Andrea (Eli) Mosier, Derick Neuenschwander, Solomon Neuenschwander, Boaz Neuenschwander, Kait (Daniel) Steffen, Zane Davis, and Logan Davis. Denver was preceded in death by four brothers, Ellis, Joel, Ben, and Willie Neuenschwander; and one sister, Estella Nussbaum. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a. m. Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at First Mennonite Church in Berne, Indiana with Pastor Jeff Linthicum officiating. Burial will follow at the Berne Evangelical Mennonite Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p. m. Monday, November 27, 2023, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne, Indiana, and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Mary Lou Moser, 86, of Berne, Indiana passed away Wednesday evening, October 25, 2023, at Swiss Village in Berne, Indiana surrounded by her family. She was born on July 20, 1937, in Bryant, Indiana to the late Dalphon Poling and the late Margie (Warner) Poling. Mary Lou was united in marriage to James L. Moser on July 27, 1956, in Bryant, Indiana. Mary Lou was a member of West Missionary Church in Berne, Indiana and a former member of Waynedale Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She sang in the choir and filled in as the piano player. She was a homemaker while raising her children. She was a keypunch operator and worked previously for Peter Eckrich. Mary Lou enjoyed playing the piano and collecting dolls. Most of all, she enjoyed being a mother and grandma. She is survived by her husband, Jim Moser of Berne, Indiana; daughter, Susan (Donny) Moseley of Magee, Mississippi; daughter, Jane (Steve) Doner of Valparaiso, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Dawn Moser of Bluffton, Indiana; sister, Janice (Dan) Rines of Greenville, Ohio; five grandchildren, Dr. Melissa Cole, Gregory Moseley, Olivia Block, Richard Doner, and William Moser; and five great-grandchildren, Bryce, Ryder, and Drake Cole, Riley and Bella Grace Moseley. Ardythe Mae (Luginbill) Flueckiger, 99, a lifelong resident of Berne, Indiana passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 4, 2023, at Swiss Village in Berne, Indiana. Ardythe was the daughter of the late Mrs. Ira H. Sprunger. Ardythe married Valier B. Flueckiger on November 30, 1947. He preceded her in death on June 13, 2010. After graduating from Berne High School, Ardythe worked at Economy Printing and Nussbaum Novelty. She then attended Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois for one year majoring in music. Upon returning to Indiana, she worked at Central Soya (Bunge) in Decatur, Indiana for three years until her marriage to Valier. She was a very accomplished organist and pianist who used her musical talents to play for church services, weddings, and funerals. She especially enjoyed playing the organ for visitor tours of the First Mennonite Church that she and Valier conducted. Ardythe was a member of the First Mennonite Church, where she was active in the Women's Missionary Society. A highlight experience for Ardythe was spending many hours typing the recipes in the first "Our Swiss Pantry" cookbook which was published by the Women's Missionary Society. A part-time job cleaning at Habegger Furniture in Berne for eight and a half years fit in nicely with her activities in church. Survivors include a daughter, Jean (David) Kohli of Fort Wayne, Indiana; son, Dr. Bryan (MaryAnn) Flueckiger of Springfield, Missouri; son, Donald Flueckiger of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sister-in-law, Shirley Emshwiller of Cottonwood Arizona; grandchildren, Dr. Marc (Lisa) Kohli of San Francisco, California, Cheryl (Phillip) Ealing of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Jennifer (Matt) Stauder of St. Louis, Missouri, and Dr. Benjamin (Significant other, Dr. Hannah Hudelson) of Birmingham, Alabama; and great-granddaughters, Anna, Samantha, and Aubrey Ealing. Ardythe was preceded in death by her grandson, Thomas Carter Flueckiger; and sister and brother-in-law, Dr. John E. and Betty Bennett. Private family graveside services will be held. Armando R. "Army" Velasco, 88, of Berne, Indiana passed away early Friday morning, September 15, 2023, at Swiss Village in Berne, Indiana. He was born on June 29, 1935, in Houston, Texas to the late John Velasco and the late Geneva (Urias) Velasco. Army was united in marriage to Louise Jane Schwartz on June 24, 1958, in Decatur at the First United Methodist and she survives Army was honorably discharged member of the Indiana Air National Guard, having served in the 1950's. He was a member of the First Mennonite Church in Berne, the American Legion Post #468 in Berne, and the Indiana Fire Chiefs Association. Army was employed at Micro Precision now known as Micromatic in Berne, Indiana where he retired after 40 years of employment. He later began working at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, now the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, and greatly enjoyed the opportunity to greet people and help them in many of the same ways he helped the Berne community by being involved with the Fire Department. What Army was most known for in the Berne Community was serving on the Berne Fire Department where he served on the fire team then rose through the ranks and achieved the commission of fire chief. He truly enjoyed his volunteer participation, especially working with Mayor Blaine Fulton. In all, Army spent 40 years as a volunteer with the Berne Fire Department in his capacity as both a team member and as Chief. Army loved his family dearly, he was very proud of all of them and their accomplishments. He enjoyed traveling and one adventure that was very near and dear to him was traveling in 2018 to Italy and Switzerland with family. The city of Berne recognized both Army and Jane in 2023 by naming them the Chamber of Commerce Citizen(s) of the year to acknowledge their dedication to the Berne Community. Army also was very fond of playing golf and enjoyed the game throughout his life. So, it was not coincidental that following his retirement he worked at the Cross Creek Golf Course in Decatur on a part-time basis and played at the Wabash Valley Golf Club in Geneva. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Jane Velasco of Berne, Indiana; two sons, Kirk Velasco of Destin, Florida and Kyle (Tammy) Velasco of Parker Colorado; son-in-law, Mark Tomlin of Indianapolis, Indiana; five sisters, Alice (Rudy) Cortez of Bryan, Texas, Idalia (Paul) Edwards of Phoenix, Arizona, Sylvia Velasco of Chesapeake, Virginia, Lydia (Myron) Wacker of Fremont, Wisconsin, and Geneva Trejo of Wichita Falls, Texas; sister-in-law, Susie Velasco of Los Angeles, California; four grandsons, Ryan (Brittany) Tomlin, Grant (Kiersten) Tomlin, Daniel Velasco, and Andrew Velasco; and one great-grandchild, Charles Armando TomlinArmy was preceded in death by daughter, Kim Christine Velasco Tomlin on December 13, 2022; sisters, Rachel Kuncewiez, Elida Castro, and Elda Ortiz; and brothers, John, Ruben, and David Velasco. Funeral services for Army will be held at 10:30 a. m. Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at the First Mennonite Church, Berne with Pastor Jim Schwartz and Pastor Jeff Linthicum officiating.
