ROCKY MOUNT – Sylvia Dolores “Lo” Pittman Bowen, age 96, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. Born in Nash County, NC on August 19, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Dalmar Pittman and Carrie Neal Pittman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ruben Roosevelt Bowen; her sister, Ora Mae Pittman Neville; and her brothers, Earrion Gray Pittman, Albert Ray Pittman, and Irvin Wesley Pittman.A woman of faith, Lo was a past member Marvin United Methodist Church of Rocky Mount. Having been raised in the Mill Village community of Rocky Mount, she was quite proud of her upbringing and heritage. A dedicated and loving mother, aunt, and dear friend to many, Lo will be deeply missed and never forgotten.Lo is survived by her son, Thomas “Scott” Bowen and wife, Vickie; her nephew, Ray Pittman; her niece, Pat Gilliam; and numerous extended family and friends.A Graveside Service to celebrate Lo’s life will be held on Monday, March 4, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Pineview Cemetery with Rev. Kim Lail officiating.Visitation with the family will be from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM prior to the service at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1130 N. Carolyn Dickens Hoffler Parker, age 98, died on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at The Carrolton of Nash, Rocky Mount, NC at the age of 98. She was born on March 17, 1925 to Jessie W. and Shelton E. Dickens in Elizabeth City, NC and educated in Elizabeth City Public Schools, graduating from Elizabeth City High School in 1943. She worked as a clerk at the Coast Guard Air Station in Weeksville, NC during the latter part of World War II. She later took Red Cross Training and worked as a nurse’s aide at Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City, NC until entering X-Ray Technology at Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA, where her training also included X-Ray Therapy and skills in loading radium for therapeutic treatments. She was hired on staff upon graduation and worked in Therapy until she was offered a staff position in Radiology at Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City. She welcomed the opportunity to be back home with her daughter and other family members. She took and passed her National Radiology exam for Radiologic Technicians and received her certificate and registration pin which she proudly wore. She was later promoted to Chief Technician and remained in that position until her first retirement and then enjoyed taking courses in art, computer science, and other venues. She also enjoyed being a member of a local theatre group called “The Albemarle Players” where she acted, directed, was a member of the casting committee and, at one time, President of the Group. At the same time, she did secretarial work at her home church, part-time employment at a local opthalmologist office, and then finally decided to go through the local Junior College and take Nurse’s Assistant Courses, took her final exam, and earned her registration in Nurse’s Assistance and did private duty for several years until her final retirement.Ms. Parker was predeceased by her mother, Jessie W. Meades, on January 8, 1990 in Elizabeth City, NC. In late May, 1995, Ms. Parker moved to Rocky Mount, NC to be near her daughter, Carol, and family. Ms. Parker is survived by her daughter, Carolyn H. Sivills (Donald G.) of Rocky Mount, NC, her granddaughter, Kimberly S. Gay (John), of Red Oak, NC, grandson, D. Christopher Sivills, of Rocky Mount, NC, and granddaughter, Andrea Sivills, of Rocky Mount, NC.A graveside service for Ms. Parker will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 4, 2024, at New Hollywood Cemetery in the Williams Family Plot in Elizabeth City, NC with the Rev. Ron Parr officiating.Memorial donations may be made to the Lunch Bunch or Forever Young of First Baptist Church, 200 S. Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.Twiford Funeral Homes, 405 E.
