Brockton, MA

Josephine Reed Williams-Durnell was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on November 30, 1945. She was the youngest of four siblings who predeceased her. She was educated in the public school system and graduated from Shreveport High School in 1962. After graduation, Josephine matriculated into Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1966. Josephine, affectionately known as Jo, was employed as a teacher at South Boston High School. She later worked at Brockton High School as a typing teacher for many years. In 1968, Jo married Samuel “Sammy” Williams, Jr., and together they had two children: Kimberly Nicole (Williams) Carrington and Donell Samuel Williams. After their divorce, Jo re-married before returning to Brockton, MA. Jo was very much her own individual – larger than life, opinionated and outspoken. She loved retail therapy (shopping), self-care routines (manis and pedis), and fine dining at ……. Popeye’s Chicken! She was active in her church and served on many auxiliaries. She was a fashionista in her own right. She loved to travel and had a memorable sojourn to the Holy Land (Israel) in the ‘80s. Jo is survived by her devoted son Donell, daughter Kimberly, former husband Samuel, grandchildren Derrick (and his wife Christine) of Somerset, MA, Tiana Williams and Kimberly “Little Kim” Carrington of Boston, MA. Also, left to grieve her passing are her great-grandchildren Adanya Apple Jackson (daughter of Tiana) and Lucas Patrick Williams (son of Derrick and Christine). Jo’s journey to eternal rest is now complete. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord (II Corinthians 5:8). Rest now in the arms of Our Lord Jesus! To to the family, please
