Her warm smile and ability to make everyone feel at ease made her home a gathering place where there was always room for one more at the dinner table. When her children were married, she embraced their spouses as her own. Her grandchildren were blessed to have a grandma or "Greegum" that could never say no to reading them one more book. She served the Lord in many ways at their parish, St. Mary's of Milford, where she trained the lectors, assisted in the annual fair, and put her incredible cooking and baking to use for funeral luncheons. Norma Malaney

Norma Malaney

Age - 73

November 20, 2023

Norma Malaney, loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, passed away on November 14, 2023, at the age of 73. She was born in Garden City, Michigan to parents Norman and Marie Kolasinski. Norma is survived by her husband, Dennis; her sons, Ryan Malaney (Katie McMenimen), and Sean Malaney (Mary Malaney-Rowe); her grandchildren, Quinn, Lily, and Violet Malaney; her sibling, Bill Kolasinski (Lucy Kolasinski); her nephews, Gypsy Kolasinski (Kathy Morlock), Sunshine Kolasinski (Mary Engle Kolasinski); her great nieces and nephews, Iolanthe "Io" Kolasinski, Soren Kolasinski, Eleanor Kolasinski, Alex Kolasinski. She also leaves behind a whole circle of friends and extended family she loved and enjoyed so dearly. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents Norman and Marie Kolasinski and her brother, Ron Kelly. Norma spent the summers of her youth and teen years camping with her family, surrounded by the beautiful woods and waters of northern Michigan. Later, she and her family would spend happy times at a campground founded by her parents Norman and Marie. This place, built by hard work, love, humor and passion was most treasured by Norma and her family and has been an endless source of enjoyment, fond family memories, healing, wonderful stories and love. Norma's young adult life took her to San Diego and Alameda, California, where Dennis was stationed in the Navy. There she enjoyed traveling the California coastline, enjoying the sunny Pacific with her husband, friends, and brothers. Following Dennis' time in the Navy, they returned home to Michigan, continuing to build a life and ultimately start a family in south-eastern Michigan. Norma was the most devoted and caring mother to her two boys, Ryan and Sean. She often said that being a mother was her most treasured role in life. Guiding, loving, and nurturing her kids in their young lives, she saw them off to college and the beginnings of families of their own, always the loving and proud mother and eventually, grandmother. Norma's greatest source joy in life was her family. The happiest parts of her last years were spent enjoying the role of grandmother, to three little people who gave her so much joy and who loved her so very much. We hope her grandchildren will always hold and remember the warmth and deep undying love their grandma had for them. Every conversation, letter, card or message we ever received from her, ended with her telling us that she loved us so very very much. She always reminded Ryan to tell her grandkids she loved them and to give them hugs and kisses from her and grandpa. There was never a doubt with anyone that knew her, that her love was there for them without fail or condition. It was the strongest part of her being and it always shone brightly. Norma was an incredibly strong woman, who had a dignity, strength, and resilience, which amazed those around her. She is missed profoundly by those who knew and loved her, especially by her husband Dennis, and her sons, Ryan and Sean. Though her body failed, her love, spirit, kindness, and lessons carry on in those she loved. We grieve and feel her absence all around us, but we are glad she is at peace. A Celebration of Life will be held for Norma in the spring or early summer of 2024 for friends and family. Date and location to be determined (in the Livingston County, Michigan area). Norma's son, Ryan, may be contacted at rmalaney@umass. edu for further information.Show more
