He was welcomed and dearly loved by George and Deloris. He was also welcomed by his older brother, George, and older sister, Kellonye, and he was later joined by his younger sister April. As a child, Curtis was very fun-loving. Some of his favorite things to do were, playing with his friends, spending time with and wrestling his brother, and at times terrorizing his sisters by having his army of GI Joes and Transformers go into battle with their Barbies. Curtis was so much fun, there was never a dull moment. Growing up, Curtis loved and spent a lot of time with his father and brother. He spent much time learning from them how to do things. At times they were inseparable. Curtis also loved and enjoyed spending time with his mother. He was always so loving and protective of his mother and sisters. He studied from youth and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He served at the Kingdom Hall in Newnan, GA as a Watchtower reader. He served on the Regional Building Committee helping to repair damaged Kingdom Halls for many years. This served as Curtis' spiritual foundation and also where he developed many of his lifelong friendships. He always helped his parents when in need, doing repairs to their home, vehicle and taking care of their yard, always making it a priority to help. One of Curtis' greatest joys was becoming a father. When he became a father, his world lit up. He made it his point to always strive to be the best father he could be. He fell in love with and married Marie in July of 2022. It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Valerie Lynn Mickish, 67, of Lawrenceville, GA. Val left us after a short illness on November 25, 2023. Born on August 11, 1956, in Greeley, Colorado, to Verle L. and Virginia L. (Johnson) Mickish, Val was known to all as a hard-working and dedicated educator who taught in Los Angeles, California, and subsequently in Gwinnett County for over 26 years. Val was the salutatorian of the 1974 class of Clarkston High School, where she was a Journal Cup Winner, Senior Class Vice President, and led the class in school plays. She later graduated from Yale University cum laude, earning bachelor's degrees in theatre, education, and english. While living in Los Angeles she taught high school and pursued her interest in the theater. She met her husband, Steven Paull, at Santa Monica's Morgan-Wixson Theatre, where they would spend the next fifteen years directing, costuming, and acting in productions together. Val and Steven wed on June 25, 1983, in Los Angeles' Pacific Palisades Presbyterian Church. Val found her niche at the Morgan-Wixson in costuming. She later channeled her love of sewing into making Halloween costumes for her children and eventually grandchildren, they were the envy of the neighborhood. After the couple moved to Georgia, Val obtained a graduate degree from Piedmont College and a Specialist Degree from the University of Georgia. In her time in education, she held many roles, including positions in school administration and state curriculum development, but Val most relished her time in the classroom. In 2002, 2004, and 2005 she appeared in Who's Who Among America's Teachers, and in 2017 she was Coleman Middle School's Teacher of the Year. Val is survived by her devoted husband, Steven; children, Christian "Zeke" (Gwendolyn) and Cynthia "Cynnie" (Eric); grandchildren, Freya, Rivian, and Leonidas Graves and Arthur and Evelyn Paull; and her mother, Virginia "Ginny" Mickish. She was preceded in death by her father, Verle.
