Joyce Bondy Obituary

Joyce Ruth Bondy, 87, of Farmington Hills, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2023, after a brief illness. Born to Alfred and Ruth Wilson on January 12, 1936, she grew up as the adored only child, growing up in Detroit with her parents and grandparents. After graduating from Cooley High School in Detroit, Joyce attended Michigan State University. She married her high school sweetheart, Edwin Bondy, on April 7, 1956, in Greenfield Village, before moving to California to be with her husband, who was working as part of the early space program at Convair Astronautics. Moving back to Michigan, Joyce welcomed her first child, Garret, in August 1957. Son James and daughter Janet arrived respectively in 1960 and 1964. Joyce and Ed raised their young family in Redford, Michigan, making lifelong friends before moving to Southfield, Michigan. Joyce was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and her family always came first. She always maintained an impeccable sense of style and loved fashion, interior design, outfitting her homes in the latest trends. She loved cocktail hour, graduating from Southern Comfort Manhattans to Chablis, and to Cosmopolitans and Prosecco in her later years. A wonderful cook and baker, her double chocolate cake, spiced cakes, blueberry pies and peanut butter cookies were always in demand at family gatherings. She loved to read, and literature played an important part throughout her life, including working at the school library at Farrand Elementary School in Plymouth, Michigan. Reading books with her children and grandchildren brought her great joy and she was an avid Dr. Seuss enthusiast. Each day, Joyce led the charge to complete the daily crossword puzzles, a memory that each of her children and grandchildren hold dear. In 1968, close friends brought Joyce and Edwin to design a family cottage in Lewiston, Michigan. There they spent years building many memories with friends and family on West Twin Lake. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Edwin Bondy, parents Alfred and Ruth Wilson. She is survived by her children, Garret (Lynne) Bondy, James (Donna) Bondy and Janet (Bartley) DeBrow; grandchildren, Emma (Mark), Grace, Carl (Alicia), Kristen (Alex) and Daxton. The Bondy family will receive guests Friday, April 14 at the funeral home, beginning at 10:30am, a funeral service celebrating her life will start at 11:30am.
